I'll swap Wasps for Rugby in that sentence, and concur.

Rugby League's the obvious thing to try, to fill a stadium.

This whole bollocks about a City of Rugby smacks of wanting to drive football to the margins, as well.

Hearts and minds, that's what it's all about. Alas, we haven't had an owner that's recognised that for, what, 40 years?

As I've previously said, in 20 years time,if the franchise are still in cov, we will be the city's second team.

Are the council not involved in this project then?

You see, I don't see why you have issue with this. Wasps aside isn't part of a councils remit to promote the City and isn't that exactly what they're doing? Surely that's not something that they should be criticised for?

There's alot of bodies involved in this promotion of the city and surely all they're all doing is carrying out their statutory obligations to the city?

Promote the city using primarily an out of town rugby club? Way to go! Promoting the City but jumping at the chance to be part of Greater Birmingham? They couldn't give a shit about this city. Still, they showed SISU who's boss so the masses are happy. Are we all chipping in for a statue of Lucas? Or is she that arrogant she already has one on order?

Stop talking bollocks. It's the councils job to promote the City as it is C&W Camber of Commerce and to a lesser degree the University of Warwick and Coventry University who are all involved in this. This is an opportunity to do just that and they should be taking it. They're all failing their community if they don't whether that be the business community, the voting public or their student body.

How many Coventyry taxpayers do you think want to be part of Birmingham? There was a point blank refusal to have a referendum. And you talk about failing the community. You talk bollocks!

Which part is bollocks?

All of it. The statue of Lucas (never going to happen), greater Birmingham (actually got fuck all to do with the subject matter) even your issue with wasp's is a side issue, they're here, they're not going anywhere for at least another 9 or so years.

Besides I thought the Ricoh according to the oracle of all knowledge was officially a worthless white elephant again. That being the case the council didn't get one over on sisu they did them a big favour by not saddling them with a worthless white elephant while getting a couple of million for said worthless white elephant and the debt owed against it repaid in full.

So like I said. Stop talking bollocks.

That's a completely different issue though and nothing to do with what was being discussed. You haven't even asked me my opinion on that subject to know if I'm talking bolocks or not.

Here it is. There should be a referendum. If I was a Coventry registered voter I wouldn't be voting labour next time around for this reason alone.

So like I said. Stop talking bollocks.

Statue of Lucas was clearly a flippant remark which you clearly didn't understand. Birmingham has nothing to do with it? You stated that the remit of the council is to promote the City. So how is that being done by moving to be in Birminghams shadow? It was an example of the council not promoting the city. Again you seem to be struggling. Are Wasps not an out of town rugby club then? Are they not the main sponsor for the City of culture bid? And on that joining in with your promoting the city garbage. The council want/wanted to close Herbert Art Gallery whilst claiming to be a city of culture. They clearly don't give a toss. It's just about their own self promotion which unfortunately is a common theme in politics. Self promotion? Statue of Lucas. It does tie in, just didn't think I'd have to draw you a picture!

I posed questions based on my opinion and you call it bollocks. Now you're upset because I didn't ask what you think that about becoming part of Birmingham. Yet then say it's not relevant, as stated above it ties in.

Flipant remark is just another way of saying talking bollocks. They're promoting along with other bodies connected to the city Coventry City of Rugby not Greater Borough of Birmingham (or whatever it ends up being called) Greater Borough of Rugby. And then you're just going off on a tangent again shouting out things like you have council tourette's syndrome. Seriously, if you want to discuss the merits (or lack of) of CCC you should probably start something in the off topic section but on this single issue that is connected to the thread they are doing what they are supposed to be doing along with all the other bodies involved.

Why quote Grendel when we're discussing our views? I have never said it was a white elephant.

No, but you did say that the council got one over on SISU. Just pointing out that according to he who is always right they've actually done them a favour. Besides are you the only one allowed to go off topic?

I'm not upset but yes you didn't ask me my opinion on becoming part of Birmingham and then accussed me of talking bollocks about it despite me having not stated an opinion or you asking me for one. Your crystal ball clearly needs re-calibrating because actually we seem to agree on that subject matter. Unless of course you're putting your own hand up to also be talking bollocks on that particular subject?

You don't like what I say nor agree with what I say which is fine. But like you I am entitled to my opinion. Doesn't make it talking bollocks.

I thought we just agreed on something? The reason I said you was talking bollocks is because you've tried lumping it all together as one issue when they are in fact different issue's and not connected to what was being discussed. You're trying to win an argument/make a point with a completely different argument. Coventry the City of Rugby doesn't have a knock on effect to coventry joining the Greater Borough of Birmingham and the same goes vice versa. One isn't happening becase of the other. They are not connected.

It was connected via you saying the Council have an obligation to promote the City which I give an example of that not always being the case. You can't see everything seperately, with every action is a reaction. I give up. I'm not here to win arguments. I express my opinion, which I believe majority of the time I do rationally and objectively looking at the bigger picture. But from now on I will judge things solely not taking into account other things.

Completely agree. Unfortunately that's been missed/ignored by many on here.

I would also add, that on the day the council sold their stake in ACL to Wasps, Lucas said then that they wanted Coventry to become the first city of rugby, so this isn't just getting in the bandwagon to help promote the city, but is very much in the driving seat with wasps in wanting to move away from a football city to a rugby city.

Really backs up your point, re marginalising the football club and its supporters.

But his argument is that the council are trying to marginalise the football club, which is surely bad mouthing the council? Or is it just me you don't like?

So you're saying that it isn't the job of CCC, C & W C of C and local universities to promote the city of Coventry. Interesting.

Not interesting at all

What is interesting is you thinking the electorate will be in the slightest bit interested in this pointless PR stunt. They would, I suspect, as someone tried to point out to you be far more interested in the argument over Greater Birmingham. The comment was made because of your "promote the City" claim. How does this promote the City at all?

I've met some councillors and they all have the same traits. They are small minded. This to me has been done solely to push the football club into the sidelines.

What is really interesting is people like you sitting back and trying to point score while totally failing to see the bigger significance behind an action

Interesting but not surprising

Where have I said that they will be interested? I pointed out that it's their job to promote the city not comented on who's inerested or not.

So CCC, Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce (presumably you think Sandra Garlic is a double agent), Coventry University and the University of Warwick are all part of some conspiracy to "push the football club into the sidelines"? Really?

I'll leave the point scoring to you. If you really think that it isn't the job of the bodies involved to be involved in prmoting the city fair enough. Any chance you could give a reason why though?

I have asked you already

How is it promoting the City? Who is it promoting the City to exactly and for what purpose?

Well I won't be anticipating this in any way. Complete non-event.

I understand if your not interested in Rugby League but its hardly a non-event is it?
League looking to expand and not a bad place to start.

If Coventry does get a game, try it, you may enjoy it. Much better game than Union (in my humble opinion).
