So which one called the Transfer market wrong.

The fact that Transfer fees were likely to rocket this summer in the back of record breaking TV revenues was well understood. Yet we sold our best asset ( Maddison) just before the boom. The fee now looks crazily under valued.

If the reality is that we were short of cash to run the business then I would reluctantly accept that rationale but right now it just looks like incompetence.

some proper doom and gloom on here.

We need one or two free signings that TM can get outside of the window, that's ok.

Why have we got it "wrong" ?

They work to one, the same as every other manager in the league.

Isn't that what makes a good League 1 manager?

I have to agree with Nick. Don't get me wrong I am very happy with Mowbray in charge but there is a niggle in the back of my mind knowing that he is not a league one manager and is trying to run and attract players as if we are higher. We really need a good league one manager for the transfer market.

In my opinion last years squad was the best we had in years and we massively under achieved with an 8th place finished. This year is going to be a struggle and I would be surprised if we got relegated.

I do hope I'm very, very wrong of course.

Flip side is we sold a pretty untried teenager (just back from injury) to a club who ended up relegated to the championship and who have sent him out on loan to Scotland as they don't feel he's ready for the championship yet.
He is undervalued compared to well proven and international players that are moving around the market but, there are plenty of decent and experienced players going for less than £1m from our league with just as much potential as James.

Maybe the money was used to keep us going. Having said that didnt someone on here say TM said "she had that money" referring to Joy Sepalla?

Again, I think people see the Transfer Deadline Day and £1billion spend and get carried away and forgetting we are in League 1.

Yeah, sort of agree, but you do also have to factor in our being a basket case of a club, with a future in doubt too

Struggling to see why some people are so outraged.

1 Bloke going on about our inexperienced forward line. Tudgay, Reid and Sordell have about 850 games between them if he plays them.

Some people need a reality check of the fact we are in league 1. Some of the whinging is making people look a bit silly, people aren't really engaging their brains before going off on one.

Because mowbray and Venus don't set the budget nick that's why.

Perhaps Anderson doesn't either. Your budget is set by projected income. That will be based on what we achieved last year.

You could argue the fans set it.

Why are the only options SISU or Anderson? What about Mowbray / Venus?

Did TM say he spoke to Joy and told her you can't get anywhere if you sell off your most promising young talent?
I can't recall the specifics but was t it something like that.
Regarding Maddison.
I don't know if he was undervalued or not by the way. I just don't think TM particularly wanted him sold.

Did he? Was that before signing Jones on a 4 year deal?

Not sure if you missed the point.
You were asking why not blame Mowbray If Maddidon was sold too cheaply due to the timing of the sale.
I am saying he probably isn't to blame as I recal him saying something about meeting with owner advising her not to sell Maddison.
What he then does with the money once someone is sold doesn't really come into it for me.

Again. No one's looking at Man City and the other team's in the premier league that have contributed most to the £1B. You also seem to forgetting that we're in league one by indicating that this is what people are doing. Most people (if not all) are comparing us to teams like Bradford and Sheffield from league one. Your accusation/assumption on what people are looking at is unfounded.

Yes, and you can't really compare us to Sheffield United either can you?

It would be more appropriate to compare us to Sheffield United than it would to compare us to the clubs who are responsible for the vast majority of the £1B. Who's comparing us to those clubs like you claim? No one I know and no one I can remember seeing post on here. It's something that you've fabricated all by yourself.

I think my favourite thing on Twitter yesterday was the guy who said CCFC should be ashamed at the news of Maddison going to Aberdeen. That did make me LOL for a bit.

Which reminds me I need to write that snotty letter to Chris Anderson complaining that in my delivery Tesco substituted Raspberry Angel Delight for Butterscotch flavour. I hate Butterscotch Angel Delight. The club can't treat me like this.

Have you seen social media?

It is the way people are banging on about only signing 2 players, as if everything has to be about deadline day. I doubt many even remember we have signed Jones in this window.

It isn't just about the money, it is the way it seems to some people that only signings on deadline day seem to count.

We are what we are a third division club, Maddison was a third division player with about 20 games to his name and back from long term injury. We don't know the fee anything from 2 to 7 million been quoted, suspect with add pn the figure to be no more than 4 million.i haven't noticed huge amounts being splashed about by other clubs in our league, Sheffield have signed plenty but the likes of Clarke and Fleck cost no fees, probably highish wages though.

It was moaning, moaning that we hadn't signed anyone then....<silence>...moaning, moaning that it was only a kid from WBA.

It's the whole striker thing, we had signed 4 centre forwards. People just ignore that and then demand more strikers, if they don;t score they will be demanding more as if there is a conveyor belt of strikers coming in.

I think all of them in our league - apart from a couple of free transfers and I think an Oxford undisclosed - were loans.

Attendances increased and budget has gone down I think

I haven't got a clue whether it has gone up, gone down or stayed the same.

It appears last year's was miscalculated (embarrassingly). SISU are not very good at running things.

But regardless who owns the club you should run within your budget.

The problem with football is Schweinsteiger 119,000 per week and played 18 times for Manchester United. The fact Man City resorted to loaning Hart, Bony, Mangala and Nasri because no one will take on their wages. The trouble is these clubs set the economy and it has a knock on effect. Fans need to start just enjoying football within realistic parameters.

At least we are trying to develop home grown talent. It should be something our fans are proud of. Even if we cannot be proud of our owners.

Totally agree, it is like people moaning about youngsters. Harries has done really well so far. Stevenson has done really well also when he has played. Why go out and get extra players in when we can have players like this to drop in when we have injuries?

Was a guy on social media saying that SISU should go to allow somebody to come in to get us to the Premier League, he expects somebody to want to come here and plough in silly amounts of money and then not want it back if it fails. That is some people's mindset.

If we run within our means, that is a better "base" for a new owner than leaking millions a year surely?

I don't even believe that the extra money in the Premiership will affect L1 clubs at all. L1 teams still have no money and the power that the Premiership has to take whomever they wish for whatever cost hasn't changed. The dynamic will be the same.

Under the SCMP rules, the definition of 'Turnover' is particularly important as Turnover is used to determine the maximum wage-spend. Within a traditional accounting perspective, there are usually only three elements of turnover:

  • Match-day Income
  • Commercial Income (such as sponsorship)
  • TV revenue (and any 'merit payments' based on league position)

However the Football League use a is broader definition of Turnover. Crucially, the FL Turnover figure includes donations from the owners to the club and injections of equity. Loans from club owners are understandably not included in the Turnover figure as these would result in growing club debts. up club debts. In League 1 and League 2, a wealthy owner can therefore fund the club spending in a way that is not permitted in other divisions. Manchester City and Leicester for example seem set for punishment for their excessive losses (from UEFA and the Championship respectively) despite the fact that the owners have injected hard cash into the club to finance the spending.

How much did we sell him for and how much do you think he'd be worth now 6 months later?

While I agree with much of your argument let me point out that a football team should be competitive for the whole season, the objective should be no less than promotion, it is less likely to be achieved with such a young squad.

As ever the message coming out of the camp changes, towards the end of last season and even in this pre-season Mowbray was looking for quality and experience for perm signings but it looks like many of the players he tried to sign didn't want to come, so the result is a very young inexperience squad, which isn't huge as things go. If the team is still doing well past Xmas I'd be delighted but also rather surprised, I anticipate a bit of burn out.

And sold Che Adams for 2 million. Straight into <whatever the Sheff Utd owner's name is> pocket!
