Stadium in Knowle or Meriden? (NOT stadium news) (1 Viewer)

It is more about the boundary being moved I guess, it will open up more potential places within "Coventry" where it could go.

Knowl is a bit of a mission, can't see that being classed as Coventry.

I did try and change the title so people didnt think it was an announcement.

Can't read the article as all the Wasps adverts on there send my work PC into meltdown.

When Fisher first started banging on about a new stadium and I thought they might actually have a plan I thought they would try and move us the NEC. With HS2 and the airport there you could see any other facilities that were part of a new stadium build generating money. Funnily enough if they had done that they could have put in a bid for the NEC itself when Birmingham Council had to sell it to pay their court case.

Wouldn't have a problem with Meridan, Knowle could be trickier, you'd def want to be the side by the motorway. I can see the sense in Meridan being part of Cov rather than Solihul but Knowle is a strange one, presumably there's some other places in between being moved to Cov as well.

Highfield road was a great location it was walking distance from town nd from a lot of heavily populated areas in Eastern Cov. Although the Ricoh is on the edge of town is is walking distance from a lot of North Cov as well as parts of Bedworth / Exhall.

Meriden would involve car / bus journies for nearly all fans, would be a nightmare to get to on a big match day.

Doesn't have to be in Coventry can be on the outskirts but we should be aiming for as close as possible to the city centre

It's only the constituency boundary for the parliamentary seat, not the boundary of the city.
That'll be the next court case then. Joy saying it should be the constituency boundary not the city boundary.

Does this mean that CCC have control past where the boundary of the city is?

Does anyone really believe the residents of Meriden or Knowle would accept a football ground and the prospects of 15000+ turning up every fortnight. There are houses there as big as a football ground ffs! If I remember correct residents of Meriden spent over a year camped out in a field to get travellers shifted, and won their battle.

Will it open up more places though? Haven't the FL said that the new stadium must be within a certain distance from a certain point in the city centre? Surely you can change the boundaries as much as you like it isn't going to change the distance from the city centre.

Even knowle is pretty close to the criteria - it's 9 miles.

I live in Knowle and would gladly welcome a stadium here. Knowle FC have a ground with a stand that holds about 100. That'd do?

No not at all.

We move to Knowle and I think we can expect crowds of at least 2,000.

yeah it was a joke mate. There is nowhere in or around Knowle that could practically accommodate a football stadium. Also everyone round here is over 70+ and Tory so probably not the ideal place

I thought the same & they got slapped down by the FA. In fact I am certain Fisher made some comment about 9 miles (which is the distance of the HS2 interchange site from Coventry city centre) but I'm damned if I can find a link, a gold star to anyone who can track that comment down.

It was 9 miles from the council house I think. Remember measuring it out and it just about worked out. To where I thought it could be is slightly over 9 but close enough that it probably would have got through.

What is the NEC actually classed as, its not far enough to be in Solihull is it?

Not the NEC but the site of the proposed Hs2 interchange at Middle Bickenhall.

I reckon the road triangle to the East of the station would be developed for leisure & housing if the interchange ever gets built.

If the club had owners with serious intent to build a new ground then it would definately be around the a45 corridor near Meriden and Pickford Green.
