Anybody comes in with an offer Sisu will sell him, without doubt

Didn't you say the same thing about Willis and Stevenson?

Reid has an ability to draw defenders to him, and in the last 3 games has been pivotal in our wins as the space that creates has been exploited to great effect. The second goal yesterday was top draw stuff from the pass from Beavon to Reid's cross and a brilliant first touch and finish from Thomas.

I'll admit that at the start of this season I thought he was a terrible player and wouldn't do very well at all. I'm happy to say he's proven my wrong and hope he stays here for a long time

Yeah. I'd wait until the end of the summer transfer window before getting smug and throwing that one out there if I was you.

I'm not being smug, but OK, he'll say it every transfer window and one day he'll be right and I'll be wrong and you can be smug, can't you?

I'll be glad to see the back of most of them anyway, so bring on the fire sale. I think Robins will too.

QPR, Leeds and Burnley interested according to the CT. at least we would get a fair chunk of compensation you'd think.

Difference is they were under contract , GT is available in June for nothing more than a token offering.
He is one of the few who would be ideal for a league 2 challenge.

Didn't know that. With stokes as well that's a worry. We will offer a deal and he won't go for nothing it will be a tribunal if no fee is agreed.

Hardly a threat is it? Couldn't care less if they all go. Willis is made of the same stuff as Johnson it seems, Stevenson is very unproven and Haynes will be offered a deal so that's up to him.

Think they may regret not selling at the reported fees offered in January especially Willis.

No he won't Nick.
I hope he and 1 or 2 of our other youngsters think hard before disappearing to u23 teams elsewhere.

Problem is wages though isn't it? Footballers career is short and often unpredictable. We will now be offering lower terms probably than some have now. What's in it for them? If a better wage is down the road then they'd take it.

It is indeed worrying, some we wouldn't miss but like you say Stokes would be a huge loss.

I hope he stays, and think he should. We need him, and I think he will flourish and learn under Robins.

That said I wouldn't blame him if say Burnley came in for him, as they are a Premiership team. But perhaps he should look at Bigi and how his career went after his big money move before being too quick to leave for pastures new. Hopefully he will sign a new contract instead.

Was it that wrong a move for Bigi? He's earned more money in that time than he would in his entire career by moving.

Depends the way you look at it G.

Perhaps staying longer to work hard at the lower levels and then moving up and having a longer more successful career in the higher leagues would give you more in both success and money.
Look at Bigi and then the two Chelsea lads tapped up from Leeds all those years ago, Tom Taiwo and Michael Woods, their careers flopped and they ended up in the lower leagues/ Scottish Leagues.

Earned a fortune, before ending up where he would have been, had he stayed, except with more cash in the bank?

Talking sense at last?

You'll soon start seeing politics sensibly as well

Bigger question is why it got to this point without a new deal

With Thomas I guess he was in doubt earlier in the season to be offered a new deal.

tbf with Thomas, it's been touch and go whether he'd make it for the past couple of seasons, so you could say with hindsight not extending his contract was wrong, but it'd have been doubtful whether it'd have been worth it for either party to do that too soon. Stokes being injured would have probably delayed talks for him, too.

I'd be reasonably confident both of those whould re-sign, mind. Thomas can really put himself in the shop window with 15-20 goals next season, and Stokes being injured for so long would struggle to get as good a deal as he would have the end of last season.

I think he'd broken through by Christmas.

Just think it's a waste to put ten years into developing a player only to lose him for peanuts (if we do). Worst case we have a young player for and extra year on a tiny wage, best case he makes it big and we are millionaires.

I could accept the "he didn't look like making it" argument a bit more if he was 23, or if he hadn't been tipped as a future star for years, or if he wasn't top scorer in the U23s. One of those should've been a bit of a hint really.

His loan spell at Yeovil didn't pull up any trees though, and nor did his start to the season.

And we've been dire all season without exception really.

Our academy graduates have benefitted from being given the opportunities to play first team football and should consider this for their long term careers. I worry that too many young players are railroaded by their agents into moves, which are only in the short term interest of the agent, who picks up a nice fee!

Sometimes it just clicks with a player though doesn't it. Wilson didn't look special or pull up any trees when he was at Tamworth (?) and out of nowhere he was unplayable

It does... and Wilson was close to being shown the door, too.

Thing is, it was crazy to write Thomas off so soon, but also crazy to hail him as a future star, when he hadn't done anything at first team level to deserve it (think, Robert Betts, Andrew Gooding etc. for examples that came and flopped!)

And even now, he might not make it... remains to be seen.

FWIW I think he's got the right attitude to do well, and that's half the battle.

Look at his goal on the highlights. Great feet interchange and a perfect finish. The commentators were waxing lyrical.

He has scored a few individual goals of real quality yet gets little adulation compared to Stevenson (shocking today), Haynes, Bigi etc. He is a real prospect compared to them.

He may be a huge player next season.
Thought you loved Stevenson? I think he's still got to do a lot more to do. He is young however, and needs time to develop. Nice to see Bigi having a big impact on the game, and a great save from Burge. Solid performance from Haynes.

See my post in answer to Grendel.

Yes he has earned more money, but surely perhaps staying for another year at City and working up could have led to a bigger money move, where he could have had longer at a higher level, earning more and having a more successful career than ending back where he started.

To me it has failed, he could have done so much better and his career has stalled. I am sure he would have preferred longevity on a higher stage, than a handful of appearance's and a couple of years in the stiffs at Newcastle, which hand in hand would have brought greater financial reward.

It's only the last 10 games or so.

I think he'd be great in league 2 but fear he will be offered a chance none of us would turn down

I can't see us hanging onto any of our good players next season. I expect them all to go.
There will be a wholesale clear out like when we were relegated from the Championship.
Wages will have to be cut back in L2 since season ticket sales and attendances will drop precipitously.
