To be quite honest my commitment to following city home and away has gradually been waning for years. What really sealed it was going back several years when I was heavily into Muay Thai kickboxing, and really started to fall out of love with football, when I saw the fantastic effort people put into other sports for very little reward. It is this rather than specific events at our club which have pushed me away from football to an extent.
Then two years ago I got heavily into fell-running. The heaviest concentration of races are between May and September, but I'm still racing on average every three weeks during the other months, which usually entails a weekend away, unless the race is drive able (I.e Shropshire, mid Wales or the Peak District). Again, the standards of fitness and dedication I see, for little or no reward, really makes a mockery of football.
Having said that, I've also been an avid follower of Italian football for years and have actually attended more Italian games than city games this season. Still get the goosebumps going to football over there. Go to places like Atalanta, Verona, Bologna, and it's obvious to see that things haven't really changed since the 80's and 90's.
