He was on Room 101 and one of the things he wanted lobbed in that he disliked was Life. He even got a few claps from the audience and got Frank Skinner laughing at his choice. He went on to say he finds it so overrated and wakes up often and thinks not all of this again.
As with Frankie you take what he says with a pinch of salt but he seemed genuinely pissed off with it all. Got me thinking maybe he's right though as most of the time its a load of stress and some people piss you off all the time. Maybe it's as you get older you think what's it all about ? And Frankie's not even a Cov City fan ! Any views on this deep subject ?

I honestly believe he's really pissed off about the way his careers gone. I think he wanted to do more surreal Pythonesque comedy but it didn't work out.
I also think, like a lot of comedians, he has mental health issues.
Having said that, I find him incredibly funny, saw him live and my daughter said she was on the verge of ringing an ambulance I was laughing that much!

In his own words he's a recovering alcoholic/druggie so maybe he's just dying for a good drink and some spliffs !

Used to like frankie Boyle...thought he was v sharp and not afraid to take on any subject. Then saw him live about 5 or 6 years ago and v disappointed. Rude and offensive without being funny at all. Just want to see him him back to his best

Boyle doesn't need to be insulting or nasty as he's a razor sharp comic. But comedy now does seem to be leaning towards being like that ? There's a thin line between being funny and sarcastic and many comics aren't bothered crossing it.

Absolutely agree. He was sharp and iconoclastic. Took on all subjects and institutions and through his comedy often took apart their veneer. He wasn't afraid to take on subjects like the royal family but what he said was funny as well as irreverent.
But when I saw him live he mainly harangued vulnerable people including people with Downs Syndrome...just telling the audience how stupid they were etc...I was waiting for the comedy about disadvantaged groups but it never came.

I heard about the Downs Syndrome gags etc. Unfunny but he doesn't care obviously. Great comics don't need to be like that. I've seen Ken Dodd live and Billy Connelly and both were brilliant !

Can't get on with him myself-shock tactics and swearing, a bit of a poor mans Bernard Manning. Peter Kay for me is the master-doesn't have to resort to it for the laughs. Might be an 80's thing/generation thing with him though.

I dislike Chubby Brown just don't find him funny. Heard he can dish it out but can't take it back. He got heckled in Blackpool by some lads on a stag do but he turned nasty and walked off. They said they were just joining in with the crowd as they thought he liked to be called a fat bastard etc. Obviously not as he never came back on !

Peter Kay is good, and classic wmc wit. Boyle is as dry as can be, which is my sort of thing. I love Connolly also as he bases his observations on a tough insight into the world - Boyle is similar in many ways. His stuff on the 2015 election and the US election is great.

Take the point on the abuse - he is better than that

By the way, Manning was a fat bully and a nasty, racist c**t. I cheered when he died.

Life is weird. Recently I've been thinking a lot about how fucked up it is that we are all going to die. I mean, what is our purpose? Surely it is ignorant to think we are the only life form in the universe. It's scary, but then you think, to live, experience love, help others - it feels amazing.

I guess when you think about dying and its inevitability it's either really scary, or really liberating.

My attitude towards that last point usually depends on how much to drink I've had!

My exact experience of him as well.

Shame because he was by far the funniest comedian around at the time.

Have to say in terms of live performances Jimmy Carr was absolutely miles ahead of him!

Remember going to see Manning up at the Walsgrave Working Men's years ago which was towards the end of his career and he literally shuffled on and off stage. His set was just tired, racist, sexist bilge with the only funny moments being when he absolutely destroyed a lad at the front who heckled him to show that outside of his 'practiced' set he did still have a bit of a sharp brain and the other bit was when all the bouncers from the Devon turned up and one of them, Tony Blackstock, turned to my mate and said 'I didn't know you were a racist?'. My mate is a bit of a lump himself but I have never seen a man squirm so much in my life!!!

Haven't seen any of his stuff for a while, one joke that did annoy me was that MIchael Jacksons childrens hospital. Not because it was offensive, but because it went on and on for what seems like hours.

Boyle is a piece of filth. A quick google reveals a long history of shameful attacks on the weak and vulnerable, including disabled children. He’s also been accused of being a hypocrite and tax dodger.

It’s hardly surprising if he sounds depressed. If you spend your life finding fault, criticising everything and everyone, moaning about your lot in life, negativity will become part of your persona.

Life’s great, especially in this great country where the opportunities are endless. Positivity and optimism lead to ambition and success. Anything’s possible if you believe it. Life is great.

I used to drink in the Walsgrave Club years ago but missed Manning's concert. I was in there one night and Ken Dodd was on and thought I'd go in and see if he was any good ? He was brilliant and the concert room was rocking with laughter.I didn't think I'd find him funny to be honest as he was "old school" comedy, but he just was on top form without one swear word or insulting anybody,as their were kids in there. Manning and Chubby Brown never appealed to me but many do like that style of comedy I guess.

Gotta agree somewhat with Boyle regarding life, especially with hangovers, the older I get the worse they become, thus not wanting to get up (on a weekend) and feel the pain.

wakes up often and thinks not all of this again.
This sums up my holidays abroad with said hangover. Have a lovely weekend chaps!

We had tickets to go and see him a few years ago and then he made his Down's comment and my wife refused to go and see him so we sold the tickets.

did you do the quick google just to get yourself wound up?
I bet your one of those people who watches a programme which has aired a warning about bad language or violence and then rings up the broadcaster to complain about it.

Peter Kay is the most overrated comedian in Britain. Then again, this is a country where people laugh at Michael McIntyre and that woollyback twat who pretends to be a scouser.
