cheers i will give it a go. how long does a game take? wife might not be happy lol

It depends. If it were just you and one other, as a new player it could be four hours or so. Better players are obviously quicker, but the amount in your group can obviously slow you down.
If you do go to play, check with the course for quieter times as playing then would put less pressure on you as less people around, and you either wont be stuck behind people or have people coming up behind you on a hole.

You'd expect a round to take 4/5 hours on the course. If you're in a society/group of lads that aren't regular golfers you'll likely be looking at 5.

Playing here in a scramble tournament in a few hours... Sara Bay Golf and Country Club
They play the LPGA women's regional (US Open and Symetra Tour) tournaments here and even though its a little wide open, the greens are like upside down saucers and fast, so nigh on impossible to keep the ball on the green.

Still, it's free beer all day!! :)

Oh, and its 94f out today. :emoji_sunglasses::emoji_sunglasses:

I don't play as much as I used too, its a crazy game as you can play the same hole 10 times and have a very different experience each time depending on the drive, weather, who you are playing with, what you did the last hole, wind, how hungover you might be, whether there are idiots before or behind you. That's what makes it a great game

I'd go Forest of Arden if you're over that side. Alistair is a great teacher, the range is usually quiet and the short game area is great.

My mate is a member of the Forest.
Every time i come back to Cov we play the Arden course which is a fantastic track.:emoji_thumbsup:

Nah the range is standalone as you drive in on the right. It's a nice little range to be fair.

Sorry mate, didn't see this until late.
Orlando is about 2 hours north of where i am, and i was playing golf on Saturday anyway.
Did you play anywhere in the end?

We stay on highlands reserve in davenport, managed to get 11 holes in before it pissed it down, typical weathers been great all week, I'm playing in a competition there next Saturday, wounded warriors scramble, I'm in a team with 3 locals, should be good

So i went driving rangw yesterday and taight myself frin youtube

Best effort was around 165 yards right down the middle with height

How is that? Good, average ,shite?

Btw I used a wood (not sure which) as they don't give out drivers.

It's not bad for a first go but really should be hitting 200+ yards with a wood.

For 165 yards I would be using a 7 or 8 iron depending on wind direction, but I hit a lot further then most due to upper body injuries which I've needed to strengthen my body to protect those areas.

Played 18 holes after work on Friday and first game in 12 months. Don't know why I bothered as the golf was shite and I've been as stiff as a board all weekend.

Yeah my lower back is sore as fuck. Shame as i wanna go again today after watching some more beginner videos
Sounds like youve got the golf bug mate. Tiger Woods has a severe back problem so at least you're in good company! Try and ease yourself into it, play within yourself and try not to hit it 300 yards every shot. Above all, enjoy it.

Yeah the fsct its so cheap is good. Nice sunny day cost around a fiver. And can go alone if mates not up 4 it.

I recorded myaelf and my back posture was very rounded. Watching videos on sorting it all out

If you were at Johnny Reay's, maybe ask about the cost of 2 or 3 lessons. A PGA pro will make sure you have the basics right - grip, posture and swing. Once you have those, it's all about practice and fine tuning....ano that's when the fun starts. All the best anyway, hope you stick at it.

I managed to pick up a Nike SQ Sumo Driver for around £35 on gumtree. Keep an eye on there if you really want a cheap driver.
Personally if I were you I'd get a new Adams Fairway Tight Lies wood from Direct Golf for £31. 16degree version would be around a 3 wood loft I expect. 19degree would be close to a 5 wood loft

Edited to say, reason I've said go for a 3/5 wood is that a driver is notoriously difficult to control. And if you're only starting to play par 3's the driver would be a pointless purchase.

oh really? i would have thought with the huge head it would be easier to drive the ball? the wood(or iron ,i dont have a clue what i used) has a slanted head for crying out loud!

my bro in law plays, i might try his driver before a purchase of my own.

I used a Taylor Made RBZ 3 wood for about 3 years. Because I'm quite a decent hitter I was outdriving most people with the 3 wood vs their drivers.

I found that the 3 wood was easier to use.

Drivers - Long Shafts, big heads, Low loft, longest club
Woods - not as long shaft, smaller heads, lofts vary i.e. 3,5,7 woods still a good boom
Irons - They do the rest, should be about 220 yards down to a chip.
