Otherwise an OK CV, Watford the only real 'big' club, as an assistant (twice) but very poor managerial stint at Northampton, clearly that's not a role he wants again or is a fit for.

Blooming heck, some of you guys are even scathing towards our new head of recruitment. Every window you guys become experts of players to bring in and let go and yet you have absolutely no connection to the game from a managerial point of view, yet you criticise this appointment.
He might turn out great, but i think it's fair to question his lack of experience in recruitment roles.

Tough act to follow. As long as hes been watching games in all 5 divisions and europe/ has good networks - questions im sure that have been asked at interview. Relevant talent spotting grilling. Im sure MR has made right choice.
He was. If (if!) he still has contacts from the top clubs from his playing days, and knows lower leagues from his time since, then he can cover all bases pretty well in that respect.
