You actually named Dean Smith as a candidate...really???

Anyway, gave it to Roberto Mancini IMO. No reason it has to be an English candidate and none of them are any good anyway.

Saw rumour his name was mentioned but beeped out in Big Sam video, but most commentators say he had a fall out with his Chairman.

In an ideal world I'd prefer someone English but we don't have that luxury. How many of the top managers are English, there's nobody to choose from.

I had a 100% winning record for England on Football manager, I did quit after 2 games though because international management is boring. Nobody employed me after that and I had to retire after being jobless for 5 years.

You found international management boring.......yet went onto have 5 years job hunting? Bet that matched the boredom :D

I was just naming as many english managers I could think of in the top two divisons.

I think it will be English, the FA seem to have been making a big drive to get more young english players to go into coaching. If they then don't give a chance of the top job to an englishman it weakens that stance.

Last manager the FA will appoint with charisma and, IMO, the potential to grab the England team by the scruff of their neck and get them playing.

Like many have said, they will appoint a quiet yes man.

it's a crying shame the FA & FL don't pursue club owners with the same vim & vigour they have adopted in this case,
and, for what it's worth, the FA bigwig, greg clarke, wasn't he something to do with leics in the past ?
& how did they get on under admin ?

The question is what is most important: qualifying for the next World Cup or having an English manager? If the former, we need the best person available, regardless of nationality.

the most important thing is to act professionally, & THAT MEANS the journalists too

They did. They were doing their job. Allardyce looked like a sleazy spiv out for a deal. Seriously how anyone can defend him is beyond the pale.

There is no stand out candidate. Hoddle, Redknapp, Pardew will all be to too edgy for the FA after Big Sam.
Eddie Howe doesn't want to the go in that pressure cooker at such a young age.

English candidates left
Southgate
Bruce
Pearce
Neville
Dyche
Warburton
Phelan
Pearson
Dean Smith
Chris Hughton
Paul Clement
Lee Johnson
Garry Monk
Simon Grayson
Gary Rowett
Chris Hughton

That just about every English manager in the top two division or involved in the england set up recently.
I rest my case.
Hoddle is the only Englishman...did well last time & so much unfinished business imo

A guy that didn't fit the mild so journos out to get him for the get go. What he did was wrong no doubt but why do our journos go all out to hang out English national manager? Never see this anywhere else even in Scotland and Wales, appreciate the expectation is low in those cases but this whole thing stunk from the start

Dishonest, disrespectful, greedy & stupid.......clearly deserved the sack.

Not that I really give a shiny shit about Eng-er-lund and haven't since they appointed Svennis......but I do hope they persevere with an English manger for the national side.....

appointing foreign coaches just stinks of desperation......normally the reserve of poor & developing junior football nations......other "major" nations have struggled over the years, but you'd never see them appoint a foreign coach....

If they appoint a foreign coach just cos they can afford it, why stop there......lets appoint the best foreign players too....who cares if they're not English either.....

Besides.....they've previously appointed 2 highly rated foreign coaches on obscene wages & stupidly long contracts..... both were clueless, passionless & utter failures.

He's been out of management for 10 years.

And your point is that he doesn't know what he is talking about I suppose - none of that matters.

Its my opinion that he is the only Englishman that stands a chance of bringing us any real success.

No, that's not my point. My point is there's been a lot of water under the bridge since then, and whilst I like the way he talks about football he's been out of thr game for too long and I'm not convinced this generation of players will have thr same level of respect for him as the previous set a decade ago. Add to that he'll not have thr same level of connections and contacts in the current game. For me looking back on hoddle is like the way we look back at Eric black.

Personally I can't see any manager English or otherwise bringing any success to our national side for a long time.

Is there something i'm missing when people keep suggesting Hoddle? 10 years out of management! Absolutely nutty idea to bring him in.

For me it's his general logic & analytical approach whilst instinctively he likes flair & an attacking style. The right team around him I still think he would cut as good a mustard as anyone.

Remember the Sven/Fabio appointments - they were in some sort of vogue & current & didn't achieve very much.

Its a poison chalice - the FA may as well cut their losses & offer Kenny Jacket or similar the job
