Free transfers (1 Viewer)

I've just been having a read on the sky sports news app on my phone and saw some very interesting free transfers available this coming January. Ruling out the unrealistic, there were two that caught my eye.

First off, Chris Kirkland, whose last club was Bury, who has backed the club to the hilt and supported the fans, is available on a free. We need a decent keeper and I don't think he'd ask for much in terms of wages due to his age. Opinions?

Secondly, carlton Cole will be available on free. Having played out in the USA for a while (in a lower league team), West ham have been training him for fitness. Again, potentially low wages due to age and playing history this year. Plus we need a decent goalscorer. Surely could fill two, very large squad gaps with these two?

I think Kirkland has taken the decision to step away from football hasn't he due to something ongoing in his personal life? Sure I've read that somewhere. Illnesses in his family IIRC.

Do people really think we are going to get free transfers that will get us out of this mess! Even if there were half decent players available they are not going to come to us. What possible incentive would they have?

Absolute minimum is 3 to form a spine, they need to be the right recruits to get an extra 30% out of the existing players obviously more would be better but I would take 3 brutes to kick some ass in this division

2x CB's
1x LB (if stokes injufed)
2x CMs
1x RM (right footed)
2x ST

I'm not too fussed with a new keeper, the defence is tbr thr priority

pretty spot on, my idea was stokes would be fit, though if he is fit and so is Haynes they both play at Peterborough id play stokes CB! Slade needs to wheel an deal, i dont think we get sentimental at who goes and who stays IMO we need to stay up by what ever means, then we can hope someone comes in and takes a punt on us so SISU can go!

Well apart from Stevenson and not really too fussed at him going, whats the point in having potential we need now not the future, it wouldn't worry me which ever one went nobody is a stand ou!!
If we had a few better players in the team as I said earlier I think we would see an improvement from the current squad...If I was Stevenson, for the sake of his career get the hell outta here so he can learn and prosper all they will do here is fuck him up

No way we can get 8 in unless we really ship some out.

I reckon 3 to 5.
Yep.

Remember, we need to replace McCann and probably the loans due back in January too, unless we keep any on.

So, it's probably going to be 3 in, 3 out there anyway. Then there will be Stevenson and I think maybe 2 new faces to come in besides the loans.

Although I think Burge and RCC are very good young goal keepers, I still think we need an experienced keeper.

can see Vlad, Ruben & Tudguy moving on in the window, Ricketts has gone so all will be replaced IMO if Ben goes he goes and his sale will cover loses and again will need to be replaced! I think Slade will just wheel and deal and bring in players he knows will get us results! Trouble is we have been delt a stupid hand with the transfer dealings of the summer! I shows to me that Mowbray probably wanted to go in the summer.... the transfer dealings were late not thought out and poor and have cost us! SISU are crap owners and dont care about us or the club really we will just be sheet in a spreadsheet to them, but if you are given a budget you spend i wisely, something we havent done!

over to you Mr Slade your turn to have luck in the transfer window, because you are going to need it!!!

For Vlad, Ruben & Tudgay to move on in the window there'd have to be someone willing to take them. Can't see that happening.

As a skyblues fan it is second nature to be optimistic hopeful if we don't have them what do we have no

I rarely champion the signing of veterans in decline, as we saw with the Cole 'experiment', it can harm the team's tactical approach. Young, determined blood is a necessity, with a 'spine' of endurance and quality...okay, yes, we're unlikely to get the latter, but still, a determined set of proven L1 players would do. Like someone else said, Peterborough are making a fortune from raiding the lower leagues for young talent, so where the fuck are our scouts looking? Or are our scouts actual boy scouts, dib-dibbing and tying poxy knots at scouting matches.

We don't need someone who hasn't played all season, is looking to improve their fitness or is totally past it. Ideally we want to find a top L1 or championship player who has moved down the pecking order and is struggling to get minutes.

The player might be up for moving if their first choice and the club might be up for letting them go out to get, at least part, of their wages paid by someone else.

8 players!! How the fuck did we manage to assemble a squad so poor that we need 8 players in January?
TM and MV have a lot to answer for.

January window will be key to Slades future. Notoriously difficult to pick up decent players without spending money.

As previous posts on this thread, I think we need about 8 players.

Three plus two on loan is more likely. If we can get the quality 5 might see us over the line. Confidence seems flat at the moment.

Minimum requirements, striker to partner Sordell. Midfield General, tackling midfielder and a dominant centre half.

Good luck Mr Spade.

Marouane Chamakh or Kieran Richardson anyone? Both just been released by Cardiff. I doubt we could afford Richardson's wages but the Moroccan could be a possibility.
