According to various articles in the Austrian press, we have had a 19-year-old Austrian centre-back training with us recently. Apparently he 'convinced' at a training season and could immediately sign a contract with us. He is also going on trial with Oxford and Hearts in the next few weeks. He also says he rejected Derby and QPR because 'the leap into the second league would have been too great for me'.

Gary Gillespie was seventeen and was playing for Scottish second division Falkirk when he joined us within twelve months he was a regular first team player, if you are good enough your old enough.

I don't dispute that but remember relegation year from the championship, we brought in Ollie Norwood who was fantastic but not the brute we needed amongst an inexperienced side to drag us out of trouble. Sometimes you need a bit of game management to swing a close game your way. Our team doesn't have that

Another baffling signing if he signs not what we need at this time, we need players that have played at this level and still can, even if it's a low wage all these wages add up we don't need numbers we need first team players.

Agree. Now is not the time for kids but hardened pros who know League 1 and can add some passion and steel to the team.

Then get rid of Jack Finch first, in a couple of years we could easily be non league so will need a different type of player again.

This one would be more like signing Ponticelli than Turnbull

Any money spent takes money away from the first team even in football terms a small amount, my nephew is a first year pro in this league at Fleetwood and his money is not bad. At this stage we need short term thinking (normally Sisu speciality) we need the best quality available not quantity. The academy will dry up once we drop into non league.

I'm always more reassured when we go for the future signings anyway, shows some kind of planning still exists at the club!

The logical option would be to close the academy if we aren't investing in it and put all resource into the 1st team then ?

The academy is our future. Its pleasing to hear we are looking at players who could make the youth set up stronger.

Totally agree of course, as long as similar thinking and money is spent on the first team
The owners have to decide very quickly if they are to continue down the current path or make some form of investment to get bums back on seats at the Ricoh
For sure they will read this forum and will read the apathy. If the fans who post on here ( the real diehards) feel the way we do what the hell must the rest think

No keep the academy, but we have a limited playing budget so adding costs is not the best thing to do you are aware we are in the bottom four and look doomed, this chap brings nothing to the immediate issue. We would be paying this guy around 12k over the next six months would that money no be better directed towards a player for the first team at this stage.

So what if he's only 19. Willis and Turnbull are conceding a shed load of goals so I doubt this guy can do any worse.

Scott Dann was about 20 when he signed and was instantly our best defender.

This guy may turn out to be shite but to label him as a baffling signing when we're so short at the back is just daft.

Have you seen him play? We are not short of kids at the back we need players who have played in this league now, we have a tiny budget and gave learnt nothing about where to spend it the problem we have is now.

Would that be Scott Dann who had played about 50 games for Walsall when we signed him?

We need experience. A big solid lump who has been round the block a few times. Reda without the injuries.

Yes but it doesn't mean you can't think beyond the next few months either. We need both and it doesn't mean that if we signed this young player we won't sign a more experienced player as well.
