So if we are to lose Stevenson or even Harries this window, who is likely to be the next player coming through?

Spence seems to have been around forever, and sounded fairly lively in preseason cameos, and along with Jones constantly he post on social media about match day etc, but Spence in particular never seems anywhere near an appearance?

Leaghy, Spence, Thomas and Lawton could still come good. Lower down you've got a few forwards who look promising.

See Slower than Platt's comments on the U18/U21 thread. Think he talked of Bayliss and Stedman and Finn and then an under 16 lad. Can't remember his name.

Ngandu I think.

It will only be has beens or loans so nothing to get excited about. Remember what Fish Face said "Let me make this absolutely clear .........,," fill in the gaps with any bullshit of your choice.

But not just playing for the U18/U21, are any of them close to getting in the team? Lawtons still coming back from injury no? Would he be a potential first team player?

Sadly any player will be sold the first transfer that they have any value. Wilson, Maddison and now Stevenson.
Then think of Lee Clarke and Vincelot, same with them first offer secures.

We have always sold our best players but at least pre SISU we got to worship them for at least a couple of seasons.

Close to the 1st Team:
Lawton - Could add bite in midfield but injuries have set his development back. I still like him though.
Leahy - Had a positive spell at Nuneaton. Would send Page back and have him and Haynes compete for the LB spot. Ireland youth caps.

A Couple More Years/U18s:
Ponticelli - Has only been at a pro team for 18 months. Needs a lot more development & time in the U23's to round out his game.
Bayliss - Central midfielder and U18's captain. In the Stevenson mold.
Stedman - Left-footed number 10. Came in from Southampton and looks like he could be a quality playmaker with first team potential.
Finn - Ireland youth teamer. Number 10/winger that also a great shot.

U16s: (Normally don't like hyping up U16s because they're so young but here goes)
Charlie McCann - Midfielder who has trained with England age group. Already handed his scholarship + first-year pro deal.
Jonathan Ngandu - The cream of the crop. 16-year-old attacking midfieler that has made several U18 appearances and has starred in them. Incredibly two-footed with everything you want (think a lot of Prem teams are already interested)
Blaine Rowe - Also trained with England age group.

Can't really add much more to skyblue93's post, spot on. There's a good interview with our Academy manager Richard Stevens in today's programme (page 38) where he gives a half-season review. He says "in the younger age groups we've had three or four around the England development sides and I firmly believe in the 12-16 age groups, we have some of the brightest talents we've produced".

The majority of players who play in these England youth squads play for the big Premier League clubs so we're producing players who are viewed as their equals which shows how good our academy is considering these clubs academy budget is probably two or three times our first team budget!

Will try and post the full interview soon if I have time.

You can only be a prospect if given a chance, i suppose if someone does not want to give you that chance at any given time, your not a prospect at that club anyone can talk players up but ultimately its your football that talks and not hype, so id say most players in academy are prospects tbh they just need a chance good luck to the lads.

Kyle Spence has actually been injured recently and I think he started training again last week. Perhaps an option on the right of midfield in a 4-4-2 with his pace and trickery. I think Slade prefers players who will do a role defensively though like Thomas

I think Jones has something to offer but I think we might try to offload Lameiras. He's flattered to decieve and I imagine he's on a decent wage

Seems a shame. We appear to bring in some bang average players on loan at times, would prefer to have our own lads here, otherwise they'll be in their early 20's before having any first team experience and get cut adrift

If I was a young pro footballer I'd be itching at a move to CCFC. Much more likely chance to get into the first team for a 'window' to the market. There's a problem right there.
