My wife likes them. But she loves her car too much. She has an MG TF in flip purple. She got it because she liked the colour.

Saying that she is considering changing now because I am looking for a new motor. Went out on the pop last night. When I got back she said she has found a car she wants. Something about a metallic blue Merc convertible. Was pissed so not sure. She has used the excuse that she needs more than 2 seats. She wasn't happy when I told her that she could keep the people carrier and sell the MG :rolleyes:

There are only about 100 W12's in the UK. And most are up in the milage. But when someone pays nearly 60k for a VW they normally look after it :smuggrin:

Which is the reason I want one. The W12 is more or less a Bentley in disguise. It never gets noticed because it is a VW. And I am a high milage driver so need the comfort. And something to put a smile on my face for the journey home after yet another shite defeat.

Think it will be the last car I get before retirement.

I used think that but would wager C4 is a more enquiring genuine inquisitor of the state.
Have come to the conclusion that the beebs TV news content is complicit in the delivery of the aims of the state and conditioning the general populace, covering a very narrow base.

I wouldn't speed in that circumstance at all.

In a 30 zone I will drive up to about 35 dependant on the road. Usually between 30-33.

Find that hardly anyone drives at exactly 30 anyway.

In a 40 zone I will not exceed 40. Why I treat it differently to 40 I am not quite sure, but maybe think it may be because I am more likely to get done for speeding.

I am exactly the same at 50 and 60 limits and stick to them pretty rigidly, but on a motorway I will go up to about 76. Find on the motorway it is impossible to just stick to 70 with having to overtake and change lanes etc.

I am the norm? Too cautious?

You aren't supposed to base your driving speed on the speed limit other than never exceeding the limit. It's not a recommended speed!
You should drive at a speed safe for the conditions, taking into account all other factors like the weather, traffic conditions and capabilities of your car and your reflexes.
The only time I would ever exceed the speed limit would be to avoid an accident or if I was driving my pregnant wife to the hospital and the babies head was sticking out.
I usually drive at a speed which maximises my fuel economy i.e. much lower than the limit and much safer than the limit. Braking distance increases dramatically as speed increases.

The best way to get to your destination more quickly is to start your journey earlier.
For instance (prepare yourself for some maths) , let's say you have to drive 20 miles and you decide to go 60mph. The journey will take you 20 minutes.
But you could have arrived at the same time, driving only 50mph and getting better fuel consumption by just starting out 4 minutes earlier.
If you started out 5 minutes earlier and drove 50mph, you'd have got there more quickly (and safely) than doing 60mph.

Do find so many people breaking the speed limits these days, especially in 40 or 50 zones, where people will happily go 70.

Just wonder if people go 10% over anyway with the supposed 'allowance' (not always adhered to by police).

After two speeding fines and an impending 'drivers awareness course', yes, I adhere to the rules and speed limits of the road very rigidly. :)

Well, in all honestly, I've never been one to speed excessively or dangerously, but I'll occasionally do 80mph on the motorway, 35 in a 30 zone and 20mph zones are a pain, but I'll stick it.

Oh and the two speeding fines were: doing 36mph in a 30 zone, on a really long stretch of road between my house and my daughter's school, and when I went to Bristol to fetch someone at the airport, I got nabbed doing 62mph in a 50 zone. The latter one is really contentious though, since I was slowing down considerably upon entering the 50 zone at Port Talbot, but the poxy camera was hidden! Didn't even see the flash go off.

Generally though, especially when the kids are in the car, I'm a goody two-trainers behind the wheel.
