Get him in at 6am. Training session at 7, decision made at 10. Sign him at 11. Clear it with the FA at 12.

Tuesday he scores a hat trick and sends us soaring to Wembley, where he scores all 7 goals in a 6 nil thrashing of Oxford and Luton and Yeovil (he's so good we can play 3 teams all at the same time).

Carlton Cole is unattached after a stint in the lower American leagues and regaining fitness by training back with west ham. Would be a decent signing

More likely starts Tuesday evening and gets injured out for six months

he still had a good touch but was overweight & hopelessly slow. bit like Peter Barnes when he came here. must have been round the same time.
Same season 18 games 2 goals . was a class player in his day.

Oh great news!!! maybe Henderson has got his fat ass off the floor at boro and is making a return!!!!!. We are in a sorry state, players with big reputation usually come with being paid a big wage. So for me this is someone who will not give a shit about our plight or be someone that will be fit enough to run, score or care. Clubs is a mess and the quicker we all stop paying attention to anyone at the club our life's will become a bit easier to deal with.

So realistically from the names listed we're looking at...
Nigel Reo-Coker
Carlton Cole
Marouane chamakh (tho never played or signed by Slade at Cardiff)
In our dreams... Robbie Keane.
We dread.... Emile Heskey.
I thought of Jose Baxter. However it's not him... further digging found he's still band from football till June, and he's been offered s 1 years deal back at Everton so not him.
What about Paul Caddis formerly of Birmingham and swindon?
Likely Nigel Reo-Coker tho....

Has Joey Barton been mentioned or is he banned now due to gambling offences?

Scored for Burnley the other week.. not him

Think we need to set our sights a lot lower. Whoever it is will be bang out of shape no doubt

Can't see the point of dripping these types of rumours out must have originated from the club, if it doesn't happen now it creates further disappointment and should it happen there will as much moaning about how crap he is than how good he could be.

Is it Sonny Pike..

For the uninitiated, he was a supposed prodigy - he had a big reputation aged 14. The next Pele as I recall. Don't think he ended up playing a single league game. The height of his career was turning out for Stevenage's youth team in their non-league days. He'd be early/mid 30s now.
He was on talk sport a while back being interviewed by Colin Murray, fascinating interview.
From what I remember his dad engineered a lot of deals behind the kids back which caused a fallout between them, also costing him his love of the game.
Sad really, but he seemed a really nice lad

Not sure how accurate this list is but from it there are a few who could be considered as having a 'former big reputation'.

Only one who could perhaps make a difference (or I have an opinion on ;)) are;
1 Macheda - massive prospect in his early United days. Would he have been at Cardiff with slade? Probably a little smaller than what we need?
2 Collins John - always wanted us to sign John Collins. Closest I'll get to seeing someone with those names play for us ;)
3 Bechio - didn't work out last time under Venus. Big name in his Leeds days. Has he done some work on his fitness? Maybe? Nah, probably not.
4 Eccleston - unfinished business? We usually hear that banded about when ex players return ;)
5 Keane - we can but dream
6 Amauri - isn't there a song out there for him? probably shit but at least we could have a good sing song on the terrace
7 Cole - another who has had a name in the game when younger but never really lived up to the hype. How did he ever get an england cap? Big and tall; about all he offers
8 Berbatov? Wants a final pay day? Knows how to strike a ball. Unlikely to be us though; doubt he'd accept peanuts
9 MAF - all is forgiven? ;)
10 Odemwinge - used to be good, clearly a bit of a sulker, maybe he's lost pace but could be useful f we could ply it on the floor

I'm bored now. Could go on, but in reality it'll probably be a midfielder ;)
