burge 7 - not much to do but also no mistakes rcc - 7 some iffy momenmts coming out and rooted to line for goal but made some good saves including one brilliant 1 handed one. maybe he should have come out for that one in first place though.

clarke - 9 - brilliamnt captaisn performance. won so many headers especially at the death and also alot of row z clearences

turnbull 8 - really good partner for clarke today. won lots of his tusseles, good headers and brought ball forwards at his feet at some points

dke - 8 - alot of heart in this kid. he also wasnt outclassed physically as much as normal.maybe near end his man goit better of him but for majority of game he looked in control

haynes - 6 - did better defensivly today than normal, but his man did get alot of crosses in final 15 mins. didnt offer much going forwards

foley 7 - did well helping us win ball back and also covering defence, saw him and reilly swap positions a few times when it came to marking men, nice to see an understanding

reilly - 9 - MOTM for me. kid gives 100%, reminds me abit of jordan henderson. lots of workrate, can dribble past a man,a good cross or pass in his locker and a crunching tackle when needed. lots of interceptions too.

rose - 8 - anoither good battling performance from rose today. his height helps him win alot of headers and he is important member of that current 3 man midfield

g thomas 7 - well taken goal, didnt panic at all. felt he faded from game 2nd half but nice to see him grabbing important goals now

tudgay 7 - works his socks off and often in our own box helping to clear ball, didnt win alot but some good attempts and holding ball and playing others in. nice headed assist for 1st goal.

k thomas 7 - has a bit of pace which helps us chase down long balls and puts pressure on opposition back line. 2 goals already so knows where net is.

jones - 6 nearly scored and seemed to get stuck in a lil more than normal but also still has moments where he has no desire to get involved in a 5050

yakubu - 5 - doesnt run but won a few balls, had a turn and shot, a flicked header and set up the jones shot. more to come hopefully

Hmm, didn't Burge make a cock up in the first half? Sure he did. One ball that was clearly his I thought and he fluffed it. Also there was a ball which I think was clearly his but he didn't come for it.

Thought RCC cocked a couple up too in the second half.

I would mark them both down personally.

i think ref gave a foul for the burge one?

but sure cant argue with 6 for um both, actually now i think about it more 6 seems right

Burge 5 / RCC 5

DKE 7 - Held his own and was all heart and spirit for the entire 90 mins

Clarke 8 - Thought he had a strong commanding game. Bit worried when twice in the second half he had to come over to the flank to cover the wide player of the opposition.

Turnbull 7 - A couple of fluffed clearances, but otherwise pretty steady

Haynes 6 - Looked okay coming forwards (strength still an issue for him, getting knocked off the ball), but rather suspect at the back

Foley 8 - Thought he was inspirational in the first half. Crowded out a little in the second though.

Rose 7 - 7 merely for his great efforts defensively. He made one absolutely brilliant block in the second half, inside the 6 yard box as their player weaved his way through.

Reilly 8 - Never stopped working, very stopped trying to create openings.

K Thomas 7 - Thought he gave us another dimension as a target man and obviously scored another goal.

G Thomas - 7. Would have been 9, except he faded a bit in the second half. Out of him or Reilly for MOTM.

Tudgay - 6.5. Worked tirelessly and played some nice little one two passes and interchanges.

Jones - 7. Thought the introduction of Jones and Yakubu changed the game. He brought pace to the team and had Gillingham on the back foot on 2 or 3 occasions.

Yak - 6. Slow and ponderous, but again he gave us another dimension and you could see it unnerved the Gills defence a little.

Both Jones and Yakubu brought the play down to the other end of the field and that was exactly what was needed, a bit of respite and a chance for us to catch our breath.

I very rarely say much about games and performances because, when I do get a chance to go, at the end of the day its all about opinions and these things can end up in squabbles over nothing. Plus, I genuinely think I may need to get glasses. But thought I'd just make comment that for most of the game they looked fairy solid as a team. Reilly stood out but more importantly, they all actually seemed to know what they were doing. They knew what the expectations were. I dunno if its luck or design but Slade got the initial team right, must have got the talk right, and made the right changes when needed - without some kind of new threat for them to worry about with Yak and Jones (if it was the mental threat rather than a physical one), I don't know if we'd have held out for the rest of the half. Credit to the defence this time round, they had a bit of luck, but they manned up for once IMHO.

Did you not think Foley was excellent, at least in the first half anyway?

I thought this initially but then thought it was Rose upon closer inspection?

No, it was Clarke. Twice I noticed.

Unless my eyesight is failing me of course.

I think he decided he'd better do the left backs job for him as said left back was utterly incapable of doing it himself.

How someone can say he has had a good season and a storming game today defies belief.

In which case I agree, not ideal to have you old, slow centre back dragged that wide. Especially when he won absolutely everything in the air. Thought he was magnificent today.

Since I wasn't at the game, I like these ratings posts but I think you should always also include a rating for the manager based on his team selections and substitutions.
From reading between the lines, it seems like Slade got most things right in this game.

Fine line. He did the other night as well but they scored. Jones is a good sub to have. Yakubu I cannot believe to be honest. He is miles behind the pace.

Isn't it strange how different people can see the same thing from such different perspectives?

Cannot agree with the OP on a few things he says.

Burge no mistakes? Apart from the corner he flapped at fumbling straight through his hands and out for another Corner (don't tell the ref though he gave a goal kick), and stuck to his line whilst DKE and Clarke (under pressure) were left to deal with the ball between them. 5

RCC, caught what he came out for but could of maybe done more, poor defending for their goal but felt he could of come out for it initially. 5

Haynes, you say he offered nothing coming forward, apart from the entire build up play to our first goal went pretty much entirely through him. He was fast and broke well and put the defence under pressure in the 1st half, defensively though (especially in the last 20mins or so) was beaten by his man time and time again. 6.5

Tudders, agree he worked hard and he was blowing towards the end (could of done with that 3rd sub) but hold up of ball? Every time the ball came to him he tried to chip it up into a quick one-touch lay off that more often than not failed. Think he needs to take his boots back to Sports Direct and ask for a pair without trampolines in. 5.5.

Decent keeper this season we wouldn't be bottom 4. Clarke motm. DKE must surely start every game now.

Burge 6 / RCC 6.5
Burge didn't have a lot to do, distribution was better for a change, RCC gains .5 on Burge for that match winning save. Both still hesitant tho.
DKE 7
a stick of dynamite, 100% always given, what was that lapse about to start the 40 mins of chaos!
Clarke 9
my man of the match, nothing pretty about what he does but he cleared everything today, called for everything and audible for 95 mins. A warrior, everything we've needed for too long.
Turnbull 7
a steady game, few errors. Needs to play alongside a experienced player to shine.
Haynes 6
exposed badly today, useful going forward and still weak at the back. Clarke had to do his job in added time which then left the man who won everything on the edge of the box not in it.
Foley 7
played to holding role well today, a few missed placed passes but generally solid
Reilly 7.5
starting to look solid and confident now, making forward runs and defensive work too. A box to box man.
Rose 6
frustrates the hell out of me, he may as well be 5'7. DKE wins more headers, if he could use his size to win 1st, 2nd balls he'd be a "player".
G Thomas 8.5
if he'd of lasted the 95 mins would of been my MOTM, stepping up to the challenge and adding goals to his games. A great game.
K Thomas 7
TM what a leaving present that was. Starting to show some ability, could be a handful when fully fit.
Tudgay 7
thought he led the line well in the 1st half and always helps out defensively, but you don't want your striker there. Hoping beavons return will give him a "rest" against Swindon.

Yakubu 5
nearly scored... we will leave it there. Not the game for him today
Jones 5.5
anonymous for me, but again not the game for him to shine in while backs are to the wall.

Surprised people aren't rating Kwame Thomas higher. Thought he was excellent and would be in the MOTM discussion for me along with George Thomas, Reilly & Clarke.

Tudgay worked his socks off too. DKE was really good, Haynes looked ok. No one really had a bad game, although second half was poor all round.

Would say on reflection that we all might want to knock a mark or two off Turnbull.

Watched the highlights and he is clearly at fault for their goal. It's his man and and as the ball comes over he is guilty of ball watching and loses his man, who then scores.

Great move by us for the first goal mind and a lovely cross from Reilly.

Amazing how a lot of marks could be very different if their player hadn't missed a sitter at the end.

Hence the reason I scored Rose higher because he stopped an absolutely certain goal

Tudgay had another good game I thought! Clever play for the first goal
