You ever been the first person in a stadium? (1 Viewer)

Obviously someone has to be the first one through the gate, just wonder if you have ever been that first ever fan in the ground for any particular match?

Have been in early before. Been in at 2 for a 3pm kick off, but would say there has always been a couple of hundred here.

Used to get there really early at HR when I was a kid to watch all the warms ups and everything. Don't ever remember being the first though.

Nearest I came was watching Northern Ireland in Denmark. Being plastic ones we were there and everyone else pretty much was still in the pub until the very last minute. Apart from us the only others in the ground were ones who had came in early to put banners and flags up. I went for a piss five minutes before kick off and there was a few dozen in the stadium, by the time I came out it was packed.

How soon before the match do they open. I always though gates open at 2 for normal fans and a bit earlier for hospitality

In the sixties, as a kid, I would walk up to Highfield Road from Radford, my memory tells me I would get there and into the ground at around 12.30pm. There were always a lot of kids there at that time, I don't think I was ever the first in. The build up and anticipation was fantastic.

I've been the first fan at Blaze games a few times. There's been a couple of away trips where I was the first and only one there! Now that's a weird feeling!

The first RCD Mallorca game I went to with my dad about 8 years ago.

Didn't have any data so text a mate to get him to check the kick off time. He gave us the english time so we arrived at the game over two hours early.

I think there were a few other people around, but were definitely one of the first bunch through the gates. Was surreal.

When I was about 9 or 10 I used to go up HR with the JSB. we used to meet at Bishop Ullathorne at 10am for a couple of hours football training, changed and onto the coaches up to HR. Usual arrival times were between 12.30-1pm. We were ALWAYS the first up there. Just sat waiting for KO

Sitting in highfield road with a little packed lunch your mum's sent you! Stinking and covered in mud. Always remember my cov bench jacket. Pony. Had a matching bag too!
If I remember rightly we got there a few times before the gate had even opened.
Used to sit front 5 or 6 rows, right in the corner of the East stand! Big gang of kids!
They were the day eh

Edit: I think the bag is still in my mums loft! Gonna go look at the weekend

Nah, it's being 14 or 15 and getting in strikers and being served with a pint and shaking with excitement.

If only the internet was around then, it would have been pictures of proudness tweeted for hours.

I could of made it more weird , It would of been naked goal celebrations for me
Obviously it was pitch black in there mate, but could you still see the stands when in centre circle , or was it pitch pitch black , bet it was weird and eerie though

Only times I've been first in anywhere was the mr gs on the Saturday and first at the cock clinic on the Monday true as well

If not the first very early on, when we used to stand on the Kop to get the space we wanted we had to get there for the gates opening and rush.

A couple of years later we just used to drink in the Binley Oak until 2.50 and then run to the ground.

To answer the OP yes I have been a few times actually. When we were at HR the gates didn't open until 1.30pm and me and my mate would walk from town and just sit waiting for the gates to open.

1.30 in and place our bet at ladbokes from the man who let us underage bet at 16 and always said "that's two squid please" in the main stand.

Then out to watch the warm ups with our goalies first in an empty stadium. Use to love it if I'm honest.

On my first trip to Hillsborough we misjudged how far it was and how long it would take and got to the ground 3 hours before kick off, couldn't get a burger as the rolls weren't defrosted. Asked a copper if we could go in and he told us "only if we were Jesus Christ" so we went to the pub.

A few years later we went to watch Newcastle at Hillsborough at easter and thought we had timed it so much better as we got there about 1:30. There were loads of cars parked near the ground, not many people about and we could hear singing coming from the ground so we checked the paper in the car and it was an 11:45 kick off so we got back in the car and drove home

Indeed, I was served by Mr Curtis himself in there, at age 14. He dropped my change but I didn't mind.

He laughed like a musketeer at my short mate asking for a pint, really bwahaha style.

FA Cup final managed to get to the Ground early (to avoid the traffic), got there before 8am and parked in the car park that was just beneath the twin towers.................. still wasnt close to being one of the first!

Took forever to get out of the car park after the game, but didn't care :) :D

I used to work at the Ricoh and was regularly one of the first people in the ground.

I've probably been the last person in. Back in the 70s they used to open the big gates with 15 or so minutes remaining. I went in several times as a broke teenager.

Northampton FA cup game last season - I got there at 20 past 1 for some reason (gates open at 1:30). One guy opened his gate at 1:28 and I went through. He then got shouted at by the person in charge and had to close it until half past. So I was the only supporter in the Ricoh for a couple of minutes.
