Correct it's ridiculous to consider offering failed players new deals.

The other factor is who we can get rid of who are contracted. Reid, turnball, Beavon, K Thomas and jones are on deals and the first three likely to be big earners by league two standards.

They will eat into the budget big time so the notion we'd be able to waste money resigning the likes of Bigi Burge and Haynes is nonsense.

I'd offer stokes a deal but any other out of contract player should go. I suspect he will sign Clarke. I'd actively try and move Reid on as we need his wages on more committed players.

They will have to offer Haynes a deal to get the compensation I think.

I'm certain Robins will have a wish list the success of that will probably detetmine who stays or goes. Transfer window opens in June I think when lots of players are away on their holidays so I'd think a lot of groundwork will be done but then you have agents looking for the best financial deal for their player it's a bloody minefield. What should happen is the transfer window should open the day after the final match of the season and I wouldn't include the play offs in that would stop agents developing an wage auction

First and foremost the keeper situation-decide which of Burge and RCC has the most potential (hint: not Burge) and let the other go with an experienced replacement lined up to replace him. Then focus at the other end of the pitch and lose the strikers who have barely mustered double digits between them for people with a track record at this level. We will still be a big draw in L2, persuading such players to join shouldn't be too difficult even on our budget-don't forget what we're up against.

Think he's really come on last 4 weeks. All about opinions though
I agree he has come on but he is still off the pace, he is a 100% trier and we all love a trier but I don't see him creating anything he is like a poor mans Telfer and I couldn't stand him

Interesting to see what robins does. In interviews he sounds like he thinks squads not that bad just suffering big time from fear and hesitation to attack

Hopefully we will see more improvement before seasons end and im sure he will keep some that he thinks can do a job next season.

Only Clarke I would have thought. Would have thought no chance on Rawson or Reilly.
I think they would let us keep Rawson on a season long loan

The wage bill this season was around £1.7 million

You would assume next season it would hover around £1 million to £1.2

If we are saddled with the contracted players we have it would leave very little room for manoeuvre in terms of new recruits - renewing out of contract players on existing wages is s non starter. I wonder how much reids wages would be as a percentage of the total bill next year -- too much

Is that accurate Grendel?
If so it is around the level I've suggested and not the one quoted by Venus @£2.1M.
Nor mid table as suggested by Fisher in Saturdays Sky interview, a reduction of around 25%season on season and on rising turnover.
What on earth has Fisher been playing at /with?

I'd just keep our striker that been banging in the goals, our midfield dynamo, and that reliable keeper who pulls off so many incredible saves.
The rest can go.

Well you know what Fisher is like, listen carefully to the words he used the figure he was quoting may not be for the budget that you were thinking of.
Kieran Crowley has used the £1.7M figure on twitter.

Not sure why it should be that low they are about to bank half a million plus next week and they have around a million pound of players to sell plus season ticket sales. For people like Haynes they will have to offer him a deal that is at least the same to get any compensation if he goes.

The club has several senior players that will still require payment through the summer when there is no income. That will eat into all the Wembley money and a fair proportion any fees we get.

I think the quoted budget was actually around £2.3 but it's a ceiling not an indication of spend. It's why endless arguments around budget is pointless.

When are they paid until is it the end of May?

Kieran Crowley has used the £1.7M figure on twitter.
So it wasn't rising wages as we've been told.
Wage inflation,the exact term used.
What would be the motivation?
Not to make some invalid headline that we're profitable surely
£2.3M......... Top Eight.
£2.1.............Top twelve
£1.7M.......... Bottom Eight?
Maybe the difference between that and last year's budget leaves Joy free to not provide the 'Backstop' funding Fisher referenced on Saturday?

That was the purported figure for Mowbray last season.
There has to be some relevance to it for a manager to put his squad together through the summer.
Then to meet the leagues remit of staying within budget.

Players on longer contracts need paying all summer and there will be other staff bills costs to bear with no revenue coming in

Average wage bill for a squad of around 24 players is around £1.7 million

Players you would keep and what you would sign.....

I would send both Burge and RCC out on loan with a recall option. I would sign a experienced keeper.
I would have Corey on the bench. However if there was an injury I would recal Burge or RCC.

I would keep DKE as first choice RB
I would sign a no nonense experienced hard man CB
I would play Stokes beside him if we can keep him.
I would have Harries as back up and a loanee
I would keep Haynes if that possible and Stokes as his cover. However I would consider a loanee if he got a long term injury.
I think we will sell Willis.
I think we will sell Stevenson
I would keep Bigi
I would try and get Reilly (unlikely I Know)
I would keep Jones if possible
I would keep Reid if possible
I would keep Beavon if possible
I would let Ruben go.
I would keep both Thomas' if possible
I would sign a powerful striker
A hard man midfielder
A creative midfielder
Another 2 wingers.
I would let Foley Clarke Tudguy Turnball Vlad go

The rest would come from the development teams
Turnbull is still under contract for 2 more years!

Sheffield United is £5million.
Why they are top of the league.
What intrigues me is that it's been cut twice on rising turnover and has been around 40% of the 60% allowed and now this season according to this figure would be around 30%.
What has been the motivation behind that?

You talk like we are the only Club that have no income coming in over the summer, that's the second time you have mentioned it in this thread alone.

Shouldn't that be factored in when the playing budget comes out or is it an extra?

After all, we all expect to get holiday pay unless we are self employed.

It's nothing to do with budgets. It's an issue of balancing payments and avoiding cash flow. The same issue if the club was operating on a fan based model.

GK's
Burge- not good enough
RCC- back up to experienced GK
Defenders
Haynes- slightly improved this season , keep
Stokes- keep if fit
Clarke- let go
Turnbull- keep for depth
Willis- first CB unless sold
Harries- potential for depth unless loaned out
DKE- should be pushing for RB slot
Midfielders
Bigi- keep
Stevenson- keep unless sold
Rose- keep if fit
Ghadzev- likely to move on not played enough
Lameiras- gonna be tough for him in L2
G Thomas- keep
Reid- keep
Jones- needs to improve a lot but could be kept
Forwards
K Thomas- keep
Beavon- keep
Tudgay- to retire
Yakubu- joke signing

A lot of more experienced players need recruiting. Especially a GK, Centre Back and Centre Mid.

We need a solid spine in our team to build off.

You are correct but the cash flow issue is one of the major reasons why you need to own your own stadium. Rotherham will have weddings/parties/functions on all through the closed season. They hire out the pitch for best of a grand with changing rooms etc.

i agree with most of those. still think haynes and lameries have a alot to prove

think we have a good 8 or 9 players worth keeping though that will do well under robins. such a shame majority of this season been under venus and slade, but hey i getting back to prem from league 2 is even more of a story lol

How are you going to offer out of contract players enough money and recruit other players? Average league two wage is £40,000 a year.

we will have a 20-22 man squad by time august ends, doesnt matter if some are on existing contracts, resigned to new ones or tottaly new signings.

out of my list majority are under contract i think, and some of the ones that aint might not ask for huge pay rises to join up again.

Even if a budget of £2.3m was set, I doubt very much we've spent that as it was probably set on projections of better gates than we have been getting. I agree with Grendel, players like Reid will have to go and we can't afford to carry any fat in the squad.

Reid was one of our high earners this season, I'd rather let him go and get 2 solid league 2 players and I'd bet it will still be cheaper.
