This is exactly how we continue in this ever decreasing circle of the team getting weaker season on season. How can this lad be called an ideal replacement for Willis?
Nothing against the lad untill i've seen him play a few games but nobody can tell me this is positive and will strengthen the team.

If he's as bad as Willis god help us.

We have a habit of letting are better players go and replacing them with inferior ones. If we do that during this close season we will be in the Conference this time next year.
The question is do we think our current team is good enough to get promotion in league two?

well no as we have released most of them lol

if we keep willis, bigi,g thomas, jones and beavon i think thats a good start to life in league 2 though.

Is this where the CET link us to every single player posible and everyone gets excited? Then By September 2nd everyone is crying that we signed a few loans and made most of the u18's senior players?

I don't even rate Beavon, what's he actually done since he's been here? All the games I've seen him play this season he's been poor and lacking pace or skill.

All I am concerned about is getting out of this division at the first attempt then pretending it never happened. Signings like this compared to loanee kids are a step in the right direction but let's be clear, to challenge we need someone capable of scoring 15-20 plus.

If true it shows that MR is getting on with recruiting a squad early enough, so he can mould them pre-season.
Secondly, I presume he'll be cheap....otherwise we won;t sign him.

Yeovil fans love him and he won 3 awards for them this year. He's on his way up and certainly looks promising. Willis? He's alright and nothing more. He's clearly wanted to leave for a while but he didn't stand out in a terrible team last year. If he goes I wouldn't be bothered in the slightest

Cant we also sign someone called Cagney to play alongside this bloke.
To have Cagney and Lacey as our centre backs would be fantastic
but then jordan would have to make way

Not sure what level of player some people are expecting us to sign.

Give me a player like Lacey who's played 100 senior games at 23 at L2 or lower level knows the style, will have played on Tuesday nights in the winter on bog heaps in front of 2000, yet I get the impression people would rather us sign 20 year old CB from bottom end Champ club on loan with 2 senior appearances and has played 99% of his career at academy level.

Couldn't of said it any better.
Because he's a unknown from Yeovil via Luton he's bound to be rubbish.... Chris Stokes came on a free from Forest Green... fans favourite now and tears when the telegraph falsely reported no deal was offered.
Let's not write these players off!

The last Zimbabwean 'right-winger' we signed was Peter Ndlovu so I'm up for Robert Mugabe
The latter probably counts more as a left-winger IMO

Few negative posts on this thread plus anytime we sign a player from a club that's seen as a 'lower league' side he must be useless.
Stokes being an example.

There will be a few out there who'd prefer Rawson back than this lad.
In a general sense, I'd rather managers signed players I didn't really know about - it shows they're actually scouting, rather than lazily going for a 'name'.

Having said that, they still have to be any bloody good...

Not saying I'd prefer this Lacey lad, but I thought Rawson did better under Robins than under Slade, so I wouldn't be adverse to haviing him back.

That's fair enough he certainly didn't fall in the Lee Sawyer bracket of bigger club loan signings but my point being I'd rather this lad came in than somebody younger or same age with next to no first team experience.

Personally I hope we bring in 8 players that have all played league 2 (or lower) this summer, there I've said it!

Horses for courses.

Why are people righting him off before we have even signed him. We've tried signing household names and players who are 'experienced' and it hasn't worked. A young player with experience in the league we find ourselves in, and a player who is likely to improve. I'm quite excited by him to be honest, exactly the type of player we should be looking at.

Yup. Great if it works. Less great if you sign Gary Deegan.

Best thing to do would be to invest in the infrastructure, really, to maximise our chances of getting it right...
Deegan was a regular for Shrewsbury Town this season, he as a contract for the league one side next season.

Shame we signed him to drag us down to that level, eh. And all for a mere £6,000pw (or was it £8,000? It was a matter of public record at the time, although I can't find it now alas!)

alas didn't sign in the end. I fully expected him to join Cobi Jones :shamefullyembarrased:

Let's face it - it is likely that in the case of a lot of the players we are in for, not a lot of us are going to have seen them play much, or know a lot about them. Cue a lot of threads like this. I'll still trawl through them though, trying to sort the wheat from the chaff and ending up confused!!

Could be a great signing. Certainly experienced at this level.

My only very slight reservation considering his age and career so far is is he the sort of player you sign to consolidate in league 2 or progress from league 2? Probably depends on who else we sign I guess. Can't really judge that on one player alone.

On paper looks it looks an astute signing if it materialises; young and hungry, proven in L2, rated by his current team/fans and from a budgeting perspective free and you'd assume realistic in terms of salary expectations.

As many (including me) have previously said, signing players on the way up, as opposed to 'names' on the way down, is the sensible way to approach next season.

Granted we need a few seasoned and experienced players in the camp, but preferably in the minority.

Taking the best players from other teams in the division is exactly what we should be doing.
