There's a fair amount of video of highlights of Barwell's games. I'm pretty up to speed with non league football so had heard about him but haven't ever seen him play. Watched a few highlights videos from this season and seen him score some decent goals, difficult to get a feel for his all round play from this type of video though. There is an interview with him on YouTube too, seems a fairly level headed kid.

For me this is the kind of player to take a low cost gamble on. Young, hungry, fairly local (so shouldn't get any homesickness type issues). Low risk kind of move, if he works out then great, if not won't have cost much. Non league is full of talented players waiting for a shot at a team like Coventry. Despite all the shit around the club we will still be a big draw to players at lower levels.

Mentioned him earlier. Do you know for a fact that's who he was watching or just speculation? Would be an exciting signing (at least for a non league geek like me).

This is true, there desire to perform and give that extra 10% at is something that could be the difference at times.
Only issue is, is it the right thing for him and his family. He'd be giving up his job to go full time, would his wage be more or less than staying semi pro. I've heard a few stories that a player can earn more staying employed with a stable job and there fee from there non league club. Is it all worth gambling if you've a family for a 2 year deal?

I think mid to late twenties that's more of a consideration. How far do you think you can go in the game.

At 21 you have to take the opportunity. Likely not got a high paid job or too much responsibility at that age anyway.

You'd like to think they'd grab the opportunity, each individual will have different circumstances I suppose but as you say 21. Hopefully limited responsibilities in personal life.

Agree Mark. Plenty of talent in the lower leagues (although feels a bit weird saying that considering we're only a division below!).

Just had a look. Brady Hickey is under the 'Full Contact' agency. Same agency as Bilal Sayoud and he was recommended to the club so maybe Hickey was too?

I know that Gaz Dean has turned down multiple moves to National League teams because he didn't want to give up the job he has at Land Rover. Stayed in the Conference North when Nuneaton and Solihull Moors got promoted.

I did notice he shared the same agent. On a serious note it's a big big step back up from the southern league prem. That said I've not seen him play but he sounds like he's got size and power, developed a eye for goal, confidence has grown in him.
Unlikely to impact the team immediately id of thought and that's got to be the priority getting players to impact from august.

This is where a scouting network is vital. The likes of Leicester were snaffling up players from 'non-league' last year (or the year before IIRC). Didn't they take an ex Leamington lad? I know we have to look for 'nuggets in the lower leagues, but we can't afford for many of them to end up duds, due to our limited budget. Everything crossed we get the right hungry ones in who can help turn us around. Much sooner have these than the Russian roulette of loanees from above (unless Adam Armstrong wants to help us out again!)

And Peterboro have delved into non league again

Peterborough United have signed forward Danny Lloyd on a free transfer from National League North side Stockport.

The 25-year-old former AFC Fylde player has scored 29 goals and assisted 19 this season and moves to the League One club on a three-year deal.

Lloyd is Posh's second signing of the summer, and the second from non-league after the arrival of Ricky Miller from National League side Dover.
