Spine of the team (1 Viewer)

Looks like Robins is putting together a strong spine to the team first to build around. Strong centre half battling centre midfielder and centre forward to bang in the goals. Looking forward to next week's signings now.

Ps any odds available on a Cov Mcnulty double next season as in league winners top scorer double?

I believe McDonald is a left sided centre half , which leaves me thinking turnbull will be off , as I'm sure he won't be playing left back and won't be happy on the bench .

Had a little look at mcnultys record aswell , on minutes played he scores a goal every 181 minutes .
So hopefully we have a 20-25 goal striker there .
Need IMO another centre half , an attacking central midfielder , a right winger , another striker and a keeper as priority

I would like to see another natural RightBack in aswel for cover. DKE is a fantastic player but he isnt your 46 game man.

Good signings so far, agree that a GK is needed next. I imagine after that it'll be waiting for people to resign or not. I think even if we keep everyone we've offered a contract to we would still need a CB and a winger though.

That's a lot better that I thought glancing at his stats to be fair. Bit more optimistic now.

Crying out for a beast to lead the line who is a genuine goalscorer.
Without that promotion is beyond us.

What about Willis right back or will he be off?

Willis is more than adequate cover. But i see him as our Right Sided centre half at the moment. It is evident he is more natural at CB as well so an additional RB in the squad would be a good choice in my book.

If we can bring in a decent GK on Monday as well I think most would be fairly content at the progress.
Ah, the contentious goalkeeper question rears it's ugly head!
You have a point, I had forgotten about the GK in among all the excitement.

For a proper 'spine of the team' scenario

We need a commanding GK and a Strong powerful (Striker McNulty isn't that.)

So I think he is trying to do that but really he has signed a CB who fits the bill.
He has also effectively signed a 36 year who will hopefully still be able to do that.

Dean Moxey just released by Bolton could be a good acquisition if Haynes and/or Stokes don't sign new deals

Would prefer to look at someone in league 2 or lower to be honest. He might be a bit of a Kevin Foley signing. We've messed around with these types of players for too long. Last pay day and all that

Hasnt he offered burge a new deal?

Yes but it's likely the terms offered to most of the out of contract players will be low - many will leave. They were in talks with Thomas straight away so he's certainly been offered improved terms.

A lot will leave.

Burge improved but i would prefer a new keeper. Depends how high up it is on robins priority list i guess.

Hopefully some of the players offered contracts will give us an answer in coming week.

In contract players will go as well - Willis, Reid, Stevenson I'd guess. Haynes, Kelly-Evans and Burge will almost certainly have been offered carry over contracts and will be on low wages anyway.

Bigiramana has been offered reduced terms.

Thomas will be offered a better deal. Don't know about Stokes

The squad turnover will be huge

Think you are right Grendel, wich is why I am glad we are getting players (hopefully the right ones!) in early. It might not have much effect on those wanting to stick or twist, but if it persuades the odd one, particularly Thomas, then I will be happy

I would like thomas Willis stevenson and bigi to stay

Hopefully haynes and stokes so that lb is sorted.

Reid should go to save up wages and fact hes inconsistent. Shame as on his day he wud be such a catylst for us

who told you that ?[/QUOTE]

Whilst i hsve no doubt grendel is setting up the caveat of bigi so shit he only here because he accepted peanuts i woulf say general deducgion confirms he probably offered a little less than what we gave him when he joined us in league 1.

Probably still a decent enough wage though but yeh i agree with g it will be reduced.

There's a young lad up at Cally Thistle.
He's bagged two today but I'm not sure if he's a big bustling CF.
I think we should sign him for the name alone 'Fisher'.:p

Robins has already completed some shrewd business so far and its not even June. Clearly he does not want to follow on from Mowbray's misgivings last season which saw no signings until the beginning of July if i remember rightly. (Marvin Sordell and Kwame Thomas). Now although patience is key in the transfer market, hesitancy is also costly. I think that the reasoning behind this early business is because of the scale of the job on Robins' hands.

It's clear from the targets already signed that Robins is attempting to implement a solid spine into the starting 11; something we significantly lacked over the course of last season. However, whilst this is significantly promising, it also arises an important question that most fans will be speculating on. How many more players we need to sign in order for our squad to be competitive?

In terms of strikers, currently we have K. Thomas and M. McNulty securely in the 2017/18 squad. G. Thomas is yet to sign a new contract and Beavon has a clause in his that suggests he has an option to leave the club before 31st July if he so chooses. Therefore, assuming that Beavon decides to stay which i'm assuming he will and Thomas signs a new contract then I believe no more additions are needed. Jordan Ponticelli could also feature sporadically next season considering his success in the Under 18s.

In relation to our midfield, it's clear that this will lie at the heart of Robins recruitment plans. Assuming my knowledge is up to date, the only reputable players in our midfield under contract are Ben Stevenson, Kyel Reid, Jodi Jones and Michael Doyle. Gael Bigirimana should also sign fresh terms for next season. However, with Kyel Reid most likely considered to be surplus to requirements and Stevenson most likely to be sold for revenue, this brings our midfield number down to a total of 2 (hopefully 3). Therefore, Robins should be looking to sign a minimum of 4/5 midfielders if our first 11 is to remain competitive next season. This estimation also depends on the involvement of Jordan Shipley and Callum Maycock in next seasons fixtures.

Our defence currently is stretched to 5 players. Cian Harries, Jordan Willis, Jordan Turnbull, Rod McDonald and Darragh Leahy. However, it can only be presumed that Willis and Harries will be sold alongside Ben Stevenson. It should also be noted that CCFC are waiting on Stokes, Haynes, DKE to sign fresh terms and Turnbull to decide whether he wishes to remain at the club. Therefore, realistically 2/3 more defenders will need to be bought in; depending on who stays/goes in the next coming months.

With RCC and Addai our goalkeepers under contract, I would like one more goalkeeper to come in. Especially as Burge is yet to sign fresh terms. The consistency between the sticks was an issue last season therefore I believe Robins would be mistaken if he did not look to bring in another solid keeper.

Whilst a solid spine has already been acquired, if 8/9 more players are not bought in, i personally cannot see CCFC having a successful season. Discuss your thoughts....

Would you really be bothered if Stevenson left? Not suited to league 2 in my opinion and wouldn't be fussed if we got rid of him to acquire someone with league 2 experience

Although it would be nice to keep hold of our home grown players, realistically if it bought in the revenue needed to acquire better players I wouldn't see an issue with selling the pair.

Your suggesting we compete a whole season in league two with our tallest striker being 5ft 10 ?

I'm suggesting that Robins has other pressing concerns than a target man. I understand that a big lump is crucial for a forward line, especially if the game isn't going our way. But, it's not a priority. As I mentioned we need 8/9 players to form a remotely competitive squad in the next coming season. I'd rather Robins immediately focused on securing a solid basis of a team rather than polishing it up.

If we have the budget I'd be welcome to bringing in a target man, who wouldn't?
