It is the cause and the excuse.

No the cause is that a vacuum has been created that allowed this type of extremism to fester and then spread.

There is nowhere in any religious document for any major religion where this kind of behaviour is justified.

That doesn't mean there can't be more done by religions like Islam to try and eradicate this behaviour, but the religion is not to blame. It lies in the hands of those who use it to manipulate those into doing such heinous acts.

Is it not some sick individuals interpretation of a religion that breeds this?

I feel numb. My adopted city is hurting this morning, no one really knows what to do or say.

The emergency services were/are amazing, be proud of them. Be proud of Mancunians who rushed to the aid of those who needed it. All over the city today people are queuing up to donate blood, local taxi firms are ferrying people home, sometimes taking them hundreds of miles, all for free. Local cafes are feeding the emergency services and volunteers. Everyone is being calm and doing their level best to carry on as normal.

I don't know how many times i have been in that arena, i used to work in the offices directly above the foyer.

Sorry if this isn't very coherent, struggling to write down what i'm thinking.

The man arrested is not apparently connected with the attack. I wouldn't be surprised if he was just an idiot trying to draw attention to himself.

so sad reading about parents appealing for help finding their kids. its been 12 hours are bodies not identified this quick?
Without getting too graphic, some bodies aren't easy to identify unfortunately.

It's when you think of the reality that it's even more disgusting.

My 7 year old loves Arianna Grande, this hits home in a particularly nasty way for me. Targeting little girls is just sick.

How can it be stopped? That's the scary thing.

It can't mate, not completely. I can become radicalised in my bedroom with a private VPN and never speak to anyone IRL about my thoughts. I can find the makings of explosives in household goods, or steal a lorry and drive onto the pavement. Even under a police state with armed checkpoints you still get terrorist attacks.

But they are just noisy and scary, they aren't a serious threat to our lives in general or our way of life generally. Just shit eating flies bothering the elephant of liberal democracy. You are still, even with this atrocity, more likely to die in a car crash or train derailment than going about your business at a concert or market and you wouldn't even think about letting that fact stop you driving or travelling by train.

They are sad, worthless pieces of shit desperate for some relevance in a world that's fast leaving them behind. We have the best armed and security services around IMO and we have been excellent at stopping them so far and driving them back where they originate. Any long term solution will be slow and multi-faceted, until then we just have to keep calm and carry on.

times like this i think i should be doing something more worthwhile

like paramedic,social services,red cross etc
In my job I design Roofs. So I literally put roofs over peoples heads.

We all have our roles to play in life mate and the emergency services can't do their job without you doing yours.

Absolutely devastated by this news. I was driving up to Yorkshire this morning and they were talking about young girls around 8yrs old attending which as a dad of two just brings it all back to your doorstep, nearly in tears just thinking about it all.
Switched to Talksport but even they couldn't really talk about anything else.
Its disappointing that people are trying to use this type of event to manoeuvre their political views into the argument. Show some respect and pop the politics on the shelf for now.

I've been choking back the tears all morning. Partly because it is just so close to home but more so because i've got 2 little ones at home. It won't be long before they are wanting to go to concerts.

Tell you what though, i didn't realise until today how invested in Manchester i am. I lived in the city for 5 years and I've worked in it for 13 years and counting. The place gets under your skin.
