Any competition is welcome. Just because he was number 2 at Pompey doesn't mean he's not good enough. Always difficult for goalkeepers to break into the team when there is an established number 1 choice.

He was number two last season to on loan experienced millwall keeper David Forde so understandable really. Let's hope he's a "keeper" on a 2 year deal.

Really like all these 2 years deals. OK, we may end up stuck with someone who doesn't cut the mustard but to go into 2018 - 2019 with the spine of the team in place will be great even if we don't have a pitch to play on!

Good signing. Is Robins bringing all of Portsmouths promotion team here?

Lots can be read into this signing.
1) RCC will be the keeper to be given a transfer out the two and Burge is staying
2) has Lee Burge stalled on a deal for too long and in such a crucial position MR has acted and planned ahead deciding for the best.
3) is this also a message to the rest of the out of contract players to say we will not be held to ransom and the deals on the table sign it or I will move on quickly.
No sentiment in building a success side and it's MR that will be judged on results at the end of the day. That's his job, take your time and risk it all.
This is the time to deal, no good in august when 75% or free players have secured deals at other clubs.

Seen him play quite a bit.
Commanding, powerful, tough, leader type with a kick like a mule
Exactly what we need in League 2

With a target man to bring it down and link up play hopefully to feed those around him!
Let us pray!

So you can't read anything from it then, but ask questions that you already could've?

I'd imagine so, surely he's in regular conversation with those players and agents to get a feeling as to where there at.

I'll say this tho with no dig towards you by any means as a fan of TM and a man I liked too.
But what a difference between this summer and last, we've made 5 early signings that has brought a massive feel of positivity on here between the fans when we'd had a depressing season.
What impact is this likely to have around the players at Ryton? Surely them players who are staying and under contract next year must feel that same positivity and go away on there break looking forward to a positive preseason and a competitive campaign with the aim of building a winning mentality.
Hope you agree?

I read it as Burge will be gone, just putting the scenarios out there for discussion.

You know he's a keeper right?

I'm very aware that he's a keeper, the reply was to a comment that he has a mule of a kick.... that's only useful if there is someone there to win it and capitalise on the gain in ground or a commanding defender will just head it back in our own half... I think you'll agree and understand my comment now

Welcome LOB!

So weird to have a manager doing what fans would do in terms of signing positions we need and early on. Long may it continue.

Wonder if this means Burge is off.

CB next then some exciting forwards please.

better days

To be honest the difference between now and last season is that we are getting players in for League 2 level who are hopefully capable of winning promotion to League 1
TM was trying for players capable of winning promotion to the Championship
As others have posted in other threads the difference in earnings between League 2 and the Championship is ridiculous
Most of us as fans say we want our club to be ambitious but perhaps in retrospect we were unrealistic last year based on the budget TM had at the time

of course there is a huge difference and a welcome one, i would never deny that

but i would also say(and not a dig) that its idiotic to put it down to mowbray vs robins solely and not take into account that sisu have probably changed alot behind the scenes from last summer. they admitted huge flaws. we cant say mowbray caused them. maybe this time sisu are giving the manager funds to get his plan A's? if they wernt maybe we would be stuck on 0 signings and the likes of o'brien would be our first signing of the season for his potential like kwame thomas was.

in truth i think its a mix of both manager and sisu. and hopefully we are on right track now.

Agree with both posts, there surely is a element of change from above in what's required and done in a preseason in assembling a squad fit for the league and also targeting achievable targets and that not a dig to last summer were done there but undoubtedly set is back in recruitment a little which started the negativity in the camp.
Moving forwards what we should all do now and it's a positive for us the fans and the players and that's the main point I was trying to make. That feel good factor that the players pick upon during the summer which builds momentum to take into the season.
If we've feeling the positivity surely the players do to.
Here's to a positive 2017/18 campaign.

I am so happy. This has made my day.... although is it me or does he look a bit like Burge?! As long as he doesn't look play like him...
