Time to end the TV licence? (1 Viewer)

The fact that the BBC has demonstrated itself to be a heavily biased mouthpiece for Corbyn’s Hard Left is reason enough to cut the fee.

So thats why Nigel 'i've never been an MP' Farage is on Question Time ever two weeks...

I love the royal family ( the Queen really ) and don't find it bias. I find KoK bias.

Sorry have I critizcied the your BBC mouthpiece. I stated I find them biased. So do many others. Sorry if you don't agree. That's life.

What so if you want to watch all the F1 events for example, you have to pay money AND agree to be exposed to THEIR bias...but that's alright?

No I said you get the choice to pay to Murdoch or not. Which everyone does. The choice means there isn't as much Critism. I detest Branson so guess what I don't pay virgin. Very simple. If you hate Murdoch then don't pay sky. Fair enough.

Everyone will have their own reasons. I can't stand Gary linekar on BT sport. I find him a champagne socialist. He moans and joins in about nurse and public sector pay and taking in many refugees but when you make millions a year and live in a big house in London I guess it's easy to shout from the rooftops.

To be a socialist you can't do well for yourself?

But what I was saying is if you are a huge F1 fan you HAVE to pay Murdoch...or give up F1. So kinda held to ransom really.
And it is easy for all these people to spout in the manner of Linekar - Murdoch included, & you & I too probably on various aspects

Completely 100% agree and I don't agree with if you are lover of F1 but that's just sadly the case you have to buy sky. I don't like it but money talks in this day and age sadly. It's a money orientated world which is a shame.

I pay my licence fee monthly via direct debit. Hardly notice it going out. Personally, I love the BBC. You only have to watch some of the nature programmes they put out to see how good it is. Sports coverage is pretty good too. I can't stand ITV. Can't remember the last time I watched it. But these days, there are so many channels to choose from, including Kodi if you have it. I find myself watching less and less TV these days because of the amount of stuff there is. I prefer to sit at my PC and browse the net or take my camera out for photography.

Its greed all around, the talent/starts/sports teams want as much as they can get - sky/bt etc. are happy to do that and pass on the cost to us. We're all daft enough to pay it and unless that changes, it will continue.

It would be nice if Mr Murdoch gave the over 75s a free sky subscription to all his channels...

Agreed with your comments about Lineker, a relatively talentless individual as a presenter.
However, regardless of our views and politics, if the person with the cheque book says they will pay you £x million for doing A, B and C, then you would be a fool to turn them down.
Surely we need to be a little less envious of others and their negotiation skills and maybe work on improving our own a bit more?

Agreed. I don't blame Wayne Rooney for getting 300k a week as I would take it also. Blame the system not the man. As much as I hate linekar I don't blame him for taking the money and never would.

10% of all court cases in this country are instigated by the BBC, if that figure is not sad enough, then the fact that they are against the poorest people in our society should be. Also, they have taken much glee in being the voice of diversity and equal rights for women (staff members are forced to take seminars on the subjects) whilst the "top brass" have been rolling around the floor laughing and pinching each other's chubby little flanks at what they have got away with.

In an effort to be unfair to the perceived unfair...the process is faulty imo.
If you have open negotiating over such contracts - the preserver or whatever gets the best agent from their perspective. The best agents have the best negotiating skills supposedly, & don't mess about with average talent.
That disparity is magnified by the BBC getting the best negotiators they can find in to keep costs as low as they can. The better agent will mostly get the better deal...the rest pick up the scraps.

I'm sure if Sky published their arrangements with 'celebrities' we would see the same gender disparity. Is it the organisation at fault or the agents? Or even lower expectations of the talent involved? Or maybe the 'fairer sex' is in fact fairer in thinking 'that's an awful lot of money for doing very little' & accepting an early offer? Or is the agents attitude one following that line of thinking & encouraging such acceptance? In the hope they can get a better deal for the greedily celebs?

I guess the BBC operate a supply & demand policy...maybe if they got their talent spotters to cast the net wider they might find more gems at a much lower cost to them?

Why don't the BBC put normal match of the day on BBC one and then on BBC two they could put one on without all the rubbish and see which one people watch then hopefully they can get rid of Lineker and the other idiots and save a fortune.

I agree...said before that all I need is one commentator in the style of maybe Brian Moore/Jon Motson.
The 'experts' rarely offer anything startling. Maybe have one at the end analysing & explaining the tactical side, & anything especially controversial for 10mins.

Warning: OLD THREAD REVIVAL

I have to say, the BBC have really pulled the stops out with the "bitesize" & CBBC learning resources.

My kids were chuffed to find out Sergio Aguero will be teaching them Spanish. Well done the Beeb.

Their educational and kids content is so far ahead of even the next closest thing it’s not even funny.

Even if you wanted to shut down the BBC as many of the cranks left and right seem to want to these days, there’s an obvious case for keeping the educational and children’s content going through taxation IMO.

So many advert placements on things or mentions of brands through chat or car programmes etc, just keep everything the same but let it be paid for via advertising. We're so used to it on all other channels that it wouldn't really matter and then let's those keep it who want to and stop all the complaining over who earns how much and if they're worth it etc, gives them a level playing field to compete and saves us having to fork out. Surely that's win-win for everyone.

The whole reason BBC output is such high quality is it isn’t beholden you advertisers and has a public service ethos. You can’t just make it ITV and expect it to maintain quality. Market forces will drive it to lowest common denominator quickly.

Still better than the local alternative TBH. I seem to remember Mercia commentary made CWR look like... some good commentator guy.

And the news is better than the CET. That is what commercial local news looks like, constant ad traps and click bait shite.

BBC aint perfect but it caters for audience from craddle to grave and covers education, radio, web etc etc.. It offers a public service and is diverse and fair if slightly left of centre. Makes programmes that reflect British culture rather than obsessing about States. Look at it track record. BBC offers amazing value for money for people who enjoy a spot of deep and meaningful tv from time to time. Tory boys and girls hate the BBC and would love to see it go, and by cutting funding they are slowly strangling it. And what are the options. I detuned / blocked ITV many years ago. Sky is slightly better than it used to be but can't make it's own programmes and wouldn't give Murdoch my cash. Netflix and Amazon is mostly American stuff and very mixed quality.

Agree with most of that and although in many ways it is left of centre (certainly in terms of comedy/panel shows etc, ticking diversity boxes etc) I think newswise it's centre, and in some cases even right of centre.

In politics last election you couldn't move for stuff on Corbyn and Labour anti-semitism everyday. In comparison very little was said on the claims over Islamophobia/anti-semitism in the Tories and all of Johnson's many faults/gaffes. Nothing on the hypocrisy of JRM's investment fund and Russia. How hard have they pushed where the Russia report is? Labour constantly being questioned on how to pay for all their pledges - hardly pushed on the Tories at all. I'm not going to go into the lack of questioning on the PPE/ventilator scheme/preparation for the pandemic at the moment as it's an ongoing thing and I'll see how much questioning is done of the government when some kind of normality resumes. Laura Bluenoseberg clearly has a bias towards the Tories (not in a Fox News type way but has a definite lean in that direction)

I think the threat of defunding the BBC basically made them more compliant to the government's wishes (though not totally).
