Agree the 4th Tests opener imo I said this at the start of the SA series has to be your opener for the WI series and going into the Ashes.

Guess Crane will be the 2nd spinner in Aus and will play 2nd or 3rd test

They really don't seem to rate Rashid in the longer form which I find odd

Only the first day but I'm not convinced by what I've seen so far of day / night tests. Despite supposedly being a sell out there has been a lot of empty seat, presume people not going for a full day. People look frozen and the cricket is pretty boring.

Heard some players who had used the pink ball over here discussing it in the lead up and they said it moves around like crazy at the start but after a few overs is dead as anything and time for batsmen to cash in. Certainly what has happened today, couple of quick wickets at the start as England hit 39-2 before closing at 348-3.

Going tomorrow, forecast makes the day a write off unfortunately or certainly odd bit of play between showers!

Still early days on a success or not but it seems more a bowlers game for the first 20/30 overs then doesn't offer a lot.

I am going Saturday, solid day yesterday and a usual steady (but successful) spell under Cooky. A few lads who went yesterday said that they couldn't see the ball properly after about 7pm, I personally think that was beer related at that stage! It seems a bit of a fad and no real point to moving the times, I feel like I am killing time before the 2pm start and rather just be watching the game.

Regardless a good day will be had and a huge chunk out of the bank balance!!

Going tomorrow (Sat) also, we'll be in the Motorpoint Upper stand, taking a pack-lunch! so just beer money is needed, for which I have taken out a second mortgage.

My mate went yesterday and today. I declined on the basis that I'm colour blind and cant see a pink ball when we've used one in nets pre-season ala Chris Rogers.

Bears nearly buggered it up the numpties.

Absolutely cruising and then lost 6 wickets for just 8 runs.

Did it in the end though.

2/3 of the day
Soaked in a bar by New street waiting for the train home

Not the best days Test Cricket I've ever or likely to witness!
Sorry to hear that ISSS, hope you don't get too wet on the way home!

The West Indies descent is horrendous. They barely warrant being called a test nation anymore.

What on earth has happened there? Not expecting them to be world's best for ever and a day, but they use to have a conveyor belt of top bowlers. When is the last truly time they produced a great bowler?

There's a dispute between the players and board. According to what Curtley Ambrose was saying on the radio the board are saying that for players to be eligible for selection they have to play domestic cricket which clashes with the IPL.

Unsurprising the players being offered huge amounts to play in the IPL are going with that rather than playing for the West Indies. Means they lose their best players and most of the experience in the squad.

Think there needs to be a serious look at two or more divisions in test cricket now. Especially now Ireland and Afghanistan have been given test status. And not this stupid conference thing they have been looking at.

India, South Africa, England, Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan in Div 1.
Sri Lanka, West Indies, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and Ireland in Div 2.

Would make it easy to add more test playing nations. You could potential have a Div 3 with Hong Kong, Holland, Scotland, UAE, Oman and Papa New Guinea who all have ODI or T20 accreditation.

Play each side home and away over a 2 or 3 year cycle and one up one down.

<snip>.
Didn't England get slaughtered by South Africa in one test? No-one called for two divisions then.

They got Stoneman, Westley, Stokes, Bairstow and Moeen out very cheaply (8,8,10,18,0) so maybe they aren't so bad.

There has been calls for 2 divisions for several years now. Back in 2016 the ICC were planning to have it in operation by 2019 but then it all got scrapped.

Losing 1 match to South Africa in a series at home is nothing like the annihilation of a young West Indies team in less than three days. What good does that do England, who aren't tested, or a young Windies side who are getting battered?

It was a great day on Saturday but you should never see 19 wickets in one day! Felt really sorry for W Indies, they were a bunch of kids and well out of their depth. The conflicts between franchise cricket and test is really telling with nations like W Indies, all of their decent players just do not feature which is greatly impacting on the nation.
Don't think the summer tests have been agreed next year have they? I hope we have someone decent..

Agreed, great day and lots of wickets, shame we didn't get to see England bat.

Imagine the delight of the Aussie bowlers watching this England top order!

They'll be 5/6 down by lunch in the Ashes!

Serious concerns, such a shame Hameeds form is so off him and Cook in the top 2/3 you'd feel could see England through to lunch maybe 60-1 against Aus, blockers hit the bad ball no rush, nullify the new ball etc

This has been a very poor opening session. Talk before the game was easily making 500 plus and the batsmen being able to score for fun.

Play like this and we'll be blown away by the Aussies.

Cracking batting wicket nothing in it for the bowlers
West Indies have bowled really well, Roots just been dropped to the easiest catch you'll ever see in your life!
