We really need a new winger opposite Jodi. Unless Devon Kelly-Evans, Kyle Finn or Bilal Sayoud make a big step up, there may be a struggle.

Actually good that you mentioned Devon, looked okay in pre-season, so surely he is deserving of a chance ATM?

Across the front 3 there is:

Jones, Vincenti, Duck, Andreu and probably more who can play there before you get onto players like DKE and Finn.

I'm more worried about centre halves until the fitness of Pearson is proven.

We've only got three senior centre mids if you can even call Stevenson 'senior'. If Kelly or Doyle pick up injuries then we'll end up playing players out of position or relying on kids.

Andreu and Vincenti could both fill in also.

I'm not too sure how many players people expect. Should we have another senior CM just in case of injury which makes Stevenson 4th choice and not on the bench?

Can remember a few Rochdale fans when we signed him saying Vincenti can play CM

How many more were people expecting? We have the biggest squad in League 2.

At the minute we have 15 more players than Yeovil and 10 more than Newport.

11 in on 2 yr + deals and a talented loan, I'd say that's not bad personally.

Apparently decent there too.

So there is Doyle, Kelly, Stevenson and potentially Vincenti and Andreu. That's before you get to Shipley / Maycock as extreme backup.

What we could do with is actually playing the tactics needed to win games with the personnel we already have. Any talk of needing more signings before that happens is just knee-jerk given the large squad we already have.

The number of signings hasn't been the problem, if we are still thinking that we need improvements then unfortunately that suggests that we have recruited the wrong players (although we were saying the opposite two weeks ago!).

Robins has been backed and has brought in his own players, so now it's up to him to get the best out of them. We can't just keep on signing players until we get some in that we like.

Well, either that or...typical Sisu not investing in the team!! Always the cheap option. Why can't we afford to pay £20k a week on a player anymore? Nopm.

Just had s look at the squad on the back of the Newport programme. We have a squad of 33 players, 4 of which are goalkeepers. Thirteen of the squad have either never played a first team game or played only once or twice. We then have other players such as Biamou, Stevenson, Dion Kelly Evans, Kwame Thomas, Nazon and Dominic Hyam who have all played less than 30 first team games. Jodi Jones also inexperienced. That leaves a very small core of experienced outfield players. If you are looking at players in the squad who can come in and make a difference we are limited. It is all very well saying we have a big squad, but if a third to a half of that squad are too inexperienced to make a difference when they come in they can almost be discounted this season. Anyone who was at the Blackburn game saw what an experienced team can do to a team comprised of youth players. Of that squad, 19 are players that come through the academy.

That's the thing, we bring in strikers and if they don't score it's as if we can just keep signing more and more.

Robins has indeed said no more signings, but that obviously could change if clubs poach some of our current squad by Thursday midnight.

Guessing if Stevenson goes we would be looking to replace him.

Exactly. For anyone to come in someone will have to go first.
The telegraph who put up the article about no more signings less than an hour ago have just put up an article saying we are interested in signing Carl Baker
at the risk of sounding like a broken record, will the CT please stop tweeting the same stories again and again. I get that they need to repeat things to catch people's attention, but the Baker and Stevenson stories (based off rumours and that picture that Stevenson posted) 8 times in 3 hours. Argh!

We are wasting wages on McNulty, Beavon, Biamou, Thomas, etc. We should have gone for a real top quality striker instead of several who do not score regularly.

McNuty 1 in 4, Beavon player of the season last time he was in this league. Baimou was a punt and Thomas is still in contract

If we don't sign Baker there will be absolute uproar

I'm still happy with our squad, I'd ideally like a target man but that's my choice of what id like to take on L2.

We just need time to gel and support not the usual meltdowns.
McNulty cannot go from a "real player" to robbing a living in 14 days. He snatched at his chances yes, confidence will come with good performance and regular games. If he hits form in November December people will go into meltdown again fearing he will be sold when currently they'd chop him in.

It's a funny game, stick with them. It will come.

Smith from Portsmouth has been told he can leave, not sure how good he is though

He's certainly good enough, 1 in 4 ratio in L1 better than that in L2 and less than 1 in 4 in his career stats.

However the pots empty so MR said so your gonna need to wheel and deal better than Arry in the next 3 days and hope both him and baker are paid off from Pompey.

I still think we may get a youth loan in from the prem or championship in the mould of a target man

It amazes me how people can watch football all their lives and not have a clue what is actually unfolding before their eyes. McNulty is a striker who hasn't played regularly for a while, snatched at a couple of half chances and is clearly lacking a bit of composure which comes with confidence, whilst simultaneously playing in a team with two central midfielders who have barely strayed 5 yards from the back 4 and has had the majority of passes to him lumped long. And because of that, people want us to sign either a lump to deal with that shit we're throwing forward or a mythical 20 goal a season striker who's going to score with every touch. Without wanting to sound like a broken record, it's the tactics we need to get right with the players at our disposal. Robins has had a look at almost all our core squad in these first 5 games now and should still be learning about them with each game. He should have learned that Nazon isn't a wide player, Andreu isn't match fit and needs players with movement and a brain around him to excel, Biamou isn't ready yet, McNulty is a 9 not a 10, our centre mid pairing won't work most games etc. He needs to put those jigsaw pieces together and we will start playing better. Beavon will start looking better too if we actually start playing through the middle - he works hard and pulls defenders about, which is of limited use when playing big crosses or long balls into the box.

Assuming Robins isn't winding the CT up then it sounds like Baker coming in depends on what Pompey are willing to do. I suspect it needs him to be released, so that no fee is due, and part of his contract paid, so we can get him on lower wages.
