Our defence (1 Viewer)

Good God - have some of us learned nothing from the defeats against Newport and Yeovil????

Me and Nick have agreed on something, I have screen shot it, these defeats were both down to dubious goalkeeping, the defence still had a solid look in both games, i was at the Newport game and I am going by reports for the Yoevil loss.
My piece of "piss this league" was an attempt at a satirical swipe at CCFC fans on social media, we win 2 and we are going up as champions, we lose 2 and it is the end of the world.

We are

We are not going to score in every game. We are not going to keep a clean sheet in every game. We are not going to win every game. But if we continue to score twice the amount that we let in we should do well.

Nobody has said we will piss this division. But no club will play us and expect to win. Many will be wondering if they will even score a goal.
To be fair, Astute, the whole reason for my post was because Gosford Green said exactly that, and it was a common thread after our first two games, followed by abuse for the team (well documented on here) after the next 3 defeats and a draw at Chesterfield. I'm expecting a tough season with ups and downs, and at the end of it, I think we can gain automatic promotion. At the same time, I'm keeping my feet on the ground, this is Cov, after all!!

Yep, I think we're coming at it very much from the same angle, and I'm sorry that I missed the satirical swipe!! PUSB!

Just looking at the short clip of the highlights and that game could have easily been 2-2 if that one that hit the bar was 2 inches lower and a terrible missed header with an open goal in front of him. Saying that we could also of had a couple more with better finishing.

And England almost never won the World Cup. The history of world football based on what almost happened doesn't bare thinking about. Are you a Sunderland fan?

The timing of the goal v Newport was perfect for them. Start of 2nd half allowed them to consolidate and put 10 men behind the ball making it more difficult to break them down. No mistake, it's game where we could have maybe have nicked it. That's football for you.

Yeovil is less clear cut, dumb mistake by the keeper and we concede earlier on, but they did score later on... Was it because we exposed ourselves trying to get an equaliser or bad defending? Who knows.

Perhaps if neither of these mistakes happen, we maybe at least draw those games, we look in better stead. Considering 66% of our goals have come from 2 goalkeeping mistakes (1 if we use the Torcho multiplier) it is a really impressive way to start the season.

I think a lot of Cov fans panicked too early. There are goals and pace in this squad (cue lynch mob) and we don't concede many goals either. We're doing better than our 'predicted' promotion rivals and I think there's more to come from this group.

Superb. No nonsense approach at this level really does pay off. Even without McDonald we have Hyam and Davies available to step in who are proving to be more than able replacements. Not convinced about the full back cover if either Grimmer or Stokes become injured or are suspended, let's hope we have a bit of luck in this department as we certainly aren't getting it further up the pitch at the moment!

I'll even throw in a well done for Burge......There, I've said it!
I knew you'd come round one day!

I can see the pace and ability to create goals but no one to score them in the amount we might need to be a promotion contender.

Portsmouth's and Plymouth's top scorers amassed 13 and 15 goals respectively. Both midfielders too. We already have Jones on 4 in 7...

At the rate we're conceding goals, we don't need to score many at all...

Just making the point I think at times the defence can struggle and better forwards would have scored a couple of goals . Thought that was obvious.

I think one the worst sounds in football is when the opposition score at the end away from where their fans are. You can sometimes hear the swish of the ball hitting the net and for just a split second you know that they have scored before their fans can be certain. Then their roar, their Joy our misery. Not sure the ball did hit the net when Newport scored, but that is the only moment of despair as mentioned above in I think 6 home league games this season. Lovely! Imagine if O'Brien had stopped that one as he should. Unbeaten and no goals conceded. Even lovelier!

Yep, I tried to explain that feeling to somebody once. It's that second where it's gone in and then they cheer it. Sometimes it feels like a lifetime.
