Have to disagree on the Merry Christmas comment. Everyone I know and come into contact with say Merry Christmas. All faiths, colours, denominartions. I say it to people and they all say it back. Since when have we listened to Whitehall guidance? ;)
Just wait until the Christmas decorations come out. See if they say Merry Christmas or Seasons Greetings.

It doesn't matter anyway. My younger kids are looking forward to Father Seasons Greetings bringing their pressies.

But that's shops and businesses. We as the people will just carry on what we're doing surely. :)

Yesterday it was announced that Alesha Dixon was turning on the Coventry Christmas Lights. There's one for you to put in the books. I'm sure it wasn't announced as turning on the seasons greetings lights.

Yes we do. It will always be Christmas to me.

I am on about the decorations that CCC will put up. They have to consider all faiths. But the vast majority don't care. A lot join in with our festivities.

Ahh, just looked at the article. It said 'according to the Sun' and I stopped there.

How come we slaughter 'The Coventry Telegraph understands,' but accept 'according to the Sun?'

I don't pay any heed to these stir it all up to cause conflict stories at all.

I hate the way tabloids, especially the scummy Sun, uses 'the Sun understands' or even worse 'an insider source said' to insert their own acidic opinion. How people can't see through that is beyond me.

Take the Wayne Rooney story recently, 'an insider source that asked to remain anonymous said: 'Wayne Rooney is an overpaid fool and Colleen has had enough'.
Good insider source that, never thought for a second that that was the opinion of the 'author' of the article...

Is that so as not to offend people or just to save money? Seasons greetings can cover Christmas and Hanukkah so instead of putting up and taking down two lots of decorations its one.

If they can be re-used for different religions they can have the proper statement and be re-used.

I want us to have the signs saying Merry Christmas. I want the signs for Diwali. I want the signs for Eid. I want the signs for whatever religion it is. If we have season greetings all the time we won't know what the occasion is half the time. They should all be celebrated.

And I am not a religious person.

Why not just put season's greetings bunting up and leave it up all year round. If it's not Christmas it's Eid, if it's not Eid it's Diwali, if it's not Diwali it's Easter, if it's not Easter it's Halloween or Mother's Day, or Father's Day, or St. George's Day, or Valentine's Day, or Summer Solstice, or Whitsun, or Bonfire Night, Two for Tuesday etc.

Just leave them up full tine.

OK and in a climate of budget cuts when you can't afford all those custom signs, you'd rather just not have any so we don't offend the Christians?

That's the reason I don't read any newspaper, be it the Daily Mail or The Independent.

They're all c-units!

You are all welcome to your thoughts. Fair play.

Coventry is a multi-cultural city. More understanding and integration is needed. IIRC Eid has come and gone. How many non Muslims knew that? For the price of a few banners that could be used for years there could have been a bit of knowledge spread about.

Second thoughts yes just leave Seasons Greetings up for a few months so we can have a go at the council for putting them up at the wrong time. After all CCC are to blame for a lot of things.

The world has gone PC mad.

Yes things had to change. But as usual they changed too much. You can't tell a joke about anyone who is seen as minority in any way. But you can still tell a joke about white English.

No such thing as a blackboard now. But it is a board and is black. White board is OK though.

Baa baa black sheep is baaaaared in most schools. Baa baa white sheep is OK though.

It used to be OK anywhere to say merry Christmas. But now seasons greetings is the term. It is bloody christmas. Many non christians now celebrate Christmas. They don't see any problem with the word. But Diwali is allowed

Yes insulting words and comments shouldn't be allowed. But taking it too far is a joke.

Only 94 days until we can say seasons greetings :shifty:

You are right in our little world is certain things go too far.
However taking the piss out of someone by suggesting they are gay.
Is suggesting that been gay is a bad thing.
So I get that one.
It's a bit like the old song about rather be a P than a villa fan.

Who could possibly be offended by a picture of a spitfire, the iconic symbol of freedom from nazi tyrony, the little plane that stands as recognition for the few who stood up to a European bully and ultimately saved the free world.
