What an embarrassment!! (1 Viewer)

Based on a midfielder scoring a goal from a nothing shot and our keeper having a howler?

No, based on their movement and ability to hold onto the ball. To be fair they don't have anyone as good as JJ though.

I am totally embarrassed tonight. I can take accrington away (just) as we were away and they are a solid league 2 outfit but losing at home to forest green rovers 1-0 I can honestly say I thought I would never see the day.

I'm totally and utterly embarrassed.

People raving about Jones and Nazon tonight, should just shoot whenever and whereever without a worry of how shit it is or how many players there are around you and he will fit in fine.
It was winding me right up. Every single time they got the ball they cut inside to have a shot from distance to just have it blocked. The only time we came remotely close to scoring was when we put crosses into the box. A blind man could see how much they struggled defensively in the air. Yet our wingers constantly cut in for pointless shots and the tallest man in our squad sat on the bench watching the whole thing!
I'm not saying I want us to play hoof ball every week but FGR clearly struggle against big, direct teams. So why didn't we play to their weakness rather than our strengths? We should of had Biamou and/or Vincenti up front of a 442 with Jones and Nazon just firing in crosses.

The probably best chance was from our centre half.

Unfortunately this just goes to show that the club is rotten to the core. Morale amongst staff, coaches and players must be as low as it’s ever been.
Around two years ago we had 17k when we beat Gillingham I think who were top of league one at the time and we hammered them. We are now down to (a generous) 6k which just shows the apathy from most people about the club - it is such a shame and unfortunately shows no signs of letting up.

Well if you want to look for any positives, it has to be that Robins will surely shake it up for Saturday and make a number of changes to the team.

Think Beavon might well come back in and possibly Haynes will get chosen too. There's also Vincenti.

We need quality from both flanks to create for the forwards. Definitely needs a shake up and fresh approach.

It also goes to show you how far we’ve already dropped when I’m talking about beating bloody gillingham when not that long ago it would have been Chelsea, Liverpool etc. Heartbreaking shame

Said to a mate last night, back to back defeats to Accrington Stanley and Forrest Green Rovers in the bottom tier of English football. Got to be my lowest point as a Cov supporter.

2 questions:
Do you think this squad could be performing better than it is?
Do you think this team should be performing better than it is?
Our forwards are not good enough, Nazon is the only one who has shown something, so I can’t see it improving much.

Trust me, oggy knows the keepers are very limited, but the money has been spent elsewhere in the squad.
All oggy can do is try and polish a turd!
There must be some ex prem or championship goalkeepers knocking about that could do a job. An experienced keeper is what we need.

Listened to the game on the radio. Sounded like we were boring and unimaginable first half, all over them 2nd half but couldn't score. Story of our lives of late.
We can't bring anyone in can we so we have to work with what we've got.

We've just simply got to get more from the forward line. Hopefully it's more of a confidence thing.
Could we switch formation? 3 at the back to accommodate another forward player?
I'm starting to think Andreu is the missing key.

Maybe he should start playing players in their best positions and stop playing 2 fuckin defensive mids

Over 70 shots in 4 games, chances are not the problem, putting them away is.
Last night was the biggest low in years for me, fucking shambolic.

Yes...that'll probably be the best one(s) again. Hasn't worked before so don't expect it to again!

Well our best ones last year in the window were Stevenson and Willis, so I can't say I would be losing any sleep if it was either of them this time round.

That's what has annoyed me all season. If we were playing Luton away and went with 2 defensive midfielders, i'd say fair enough, they've scored 3 or more goals on 5 occasions now this season, let's respect that. But it doesn't matter who we've played, what form they are in, what their strengths or weaknesses are, we just do the same shit every week. We don't even make changes during the games when it's clear it's not working. As I said on another thread, that old definition of Insanity - doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is very true for us. Dunno how much Robins was affected by losing his assistant but he's looked lost for weeks now when it comes to getting results against poor quality but organised defensive teams.

I do get why people feel this and i know mine's not a popular view because we're not scoring and the obvious place to point at it is the strikers, but I think they will look much better with a central midfield actually in the same half as them. Our set up is so limiting, no natural width, no central or attacking midfield and 2 wide players that cut inside every time - it forces our attacking play against the defensive teams (of which we have faced many this season now) into a thin cluttered strip across the top of the oppo's box.

See I remember losing to the likes of Sutton Utd when we were cup holders...we had a much stronger team back then too.

Didn't go to the game - but supposed independent match report on the BBC suggests we dominated after going 1 down. The stats suggest so too...60% possession, 22 shots...sadly only 6 on target - which add that to Saturday, Barnet & Crewe means we have had 18 shots on tgt but converted only 1. That will not be going unnoticed by other teams now...they will be less cautious in defence, more ambitious attacking. So until we get someone hitting the back of the net, we had better start & get used to this!

But who have we got that is performing in a manner that suggests anyone would want to pay any significant amount for in order for us to strengthen the squad?

The thing is though, teams figured us out weeks ago and any manager worth his salt will just do the same. Keep it defensively tight, park it up at the back and we resort to pathetic long shots so unless we score a world class goal from long distance we have no way of breaking them down.

If teams try and attack us and go all out then we can exploit the space more, if they pack 10 men behind the ball we have nothing.

We need to be top 7 or thereabouts come January. Then at that point Robins has to strengthen.

We need another wide player to compliment Jones as a priority (and no, I don't mean someone walking past him and saying 'nice moustache!')
In that case, the word you want is "complement"

Do you think we have a worse squad / set of players / budget than Forest Green? At what point can managers be blamed for playing 2 defensive midfielders while we are chasing a game at 1-0 down?

Mate, at what point after 8/9 years of solid decline with a variety of managers and budgets and players and stadia and number of fans, do you realise that changing manager won’t do shit?

You can talk about budget or whatever, but the long and the short of it is that, as a club, we have been massively underachieving for almost a straight decade.

Sack Robins, bring in X, wait a year, have this exact same conversation. At some point you’ve got to realise the issues are endemic and not about to be solved by bringing in yet another manager.

Don’t get me wrong, Robins has questions to answer. But at this point complaining about formations is rearranging deck chairs on the titanic.

Where have I said sack him? I have specifically said multiple times not to sack him.

Complaining about formations and systems is very relevant.
