I was bored yesterday and frustrated. It's supposed to be entertainment not pain.
If I want pain I can book a dentist appointment every Saturday afternoon or go shopping with my wife and mother in law.

I admire your optimise Otis but a lot of your points are taken out of the context of how repetitive the issue caused by playing the defensive midfielders is. It was already evident at Newport and then compounded against Yeovil. Since then we've also had Chesterfield, Barnet, Accrington, FGR, Colchester where we keep on repeating the same painfully obvious mistake against negative teams. That's half our games now. I was already talking about it at the end of August, did a full dissection of the issues it was causing after Carlisle in September: Our defence. It's 2 months and a third of the season he's had to fix it and yet his post match comments yesterday are "We have had the conversations this week. We have worked on positionings a lot and every little thing that you can tweak but it will not come over night." Every little thing you can tweak except the glaringly obvious half a pitch between our strikers and central midfield. He clearly isn't going to address it, in fact it doesn't even seem to be on his radar and that's what is causing me the doom and gloom.
"The lads are the ones who have got to put it right, and they will because I have got faith in them. " No Robins, it's you who has to put it right.
But if he doesn't then surely the will get sacked. We can't keep not scoring every week.

It will be addressed by the board surely. Sisu know the best way for them to make us attractive as an entity to investors and recoup money is for us to get promotion and up our profile.

Promotion is the aim. We look like failing in that endeavour Robins will have to go.

We ARE still just one point behind the top 7 though.

I know Robins is stubborn, but he's not stupid.

You're not going to get much entertainment in League Two unfortunately.

It's a good post Otis and there does need to be some positivity or what's the point for those attending regularly. All that said there is also the danger of an acceptance that not scoring for 4 consecutive games in League 2 is acceptable and that it is acceptable that a once great club's fans are trying to normalise sitting in a less than 1/4 full stadium with 349 away fans about 400 yards away in the corner and with the atmosphere resembling an old reserve match at HR. On top of that the owners will be delighted with this acceptance of the new 'position' of the club in the pyramid, strengthening their arm to remain in situ and avoiding crystallising their dramatic failures with other peoples money and preventing the club from attracting any new possible investment and hence a light at the end of the tunnel. This current situation will also not entice casual supporters to pay £25/£27 either to attend or encourage business' to pay to fill those empty advertising boards. It was noticeable yesterday that there is a higher uptake of those said boards at the BPA, which to me is more an indicator of local support for a local club rather than trying to impress and sell to a crowd of 1552 with little or no TV coverage either.
Try and stay positive amongst yourselves by all means and for the guys wearing the shirt but be careful how accepting you become of mediocrity or that is all you can look forward to !

What's the difference, given that the chance of something happening ranges from zero to 100%?

Watch the games back and tell me. A shot from Nazon with 5 players standing directly in front of him from 40 yards isn't really a "chance".

I said it about 5 games ago but nobody was interested, give it about 3 more games of Robins doing the same and people will see differently.

Thing is, the gaps only 5 now but if we don't pull our fingers out soon, inevitably others will.

remember it was like this when we started slipping under Mowbray, then when we dropped into the bottom 3 of League 1.
If we do this and do that we'll be fine, but we didn't do this or do that, we did fuck all and missed out on the play offs in one instance and got relegated in the other.

Just curious as to what defines a "chance". That Nazon shot could have taken a deflection and gone in.

Yes it could, but 90 times out of 100 it isn't going to be a goal. It makes the shot stat look good though but never actually threatens them and the opposition would take limiting us to shooting from 40 yards through 4 players all day long.

Agree. Our return from our strikers is possible poor, Nazon apart. Biamou, Beavon and McNulty are all failing to hit the net. We are having loads of shots, but most are from distance and we are not creating clear cut chances for our strike Was it just two yesterday?
I was looking at the ESPN stats, nazon has had 24 shots since he last scored, Jones has had 34 shots since his last goal against Port Vale.

That's 8 more shots between then since there last goals than Beavon, Biamou and McNulty have had all season.

Has Robins had a change of philosophy this season? During his first spell and for most games when he arrived last season we played slick, fast flowing football. This season we seem to take an age to get the ball from defence to attack ( excluding when we hoof it). The loss of Andreu and the non signing of Baker have undoubtedly affected the way he would like to play. The fact we haven't got a central attacking maestro does seem to have hampered what we can do. ( would it not be worth a gamble on France We constantly seem to go around the back to try and attack from the flanks. When our central defenders have it they see to constantly look to play the ball wide rather than ball into feet for where a number 10 would play. Quick interchange of passing on the edge of the opposition box we don't seem able to do. We also don't seem to attack to the goal line and pull the ball back. Nazon did do this in the first half yesterday but no one was in the box to convert.
I like Robins. As I always say, we need to give a manager a chance to succeed. He is working in a really difficult situation with owners who do not give a toss. What is the point of starting yet again. Dowse, Coleman, Boothroyde and Mowbray have all proved to be managers who can get success at clubs either before or after their stint at Coventry. As always the constant in all of this failure is Sisu. Robins has the basis of a good team. Almost all of these players he has the option on to keep for next season. If we don't make it this time then there should not need to be so much wheeling and dealing in the summer.
Having said that, with the size of our support, we should get promotion this season.

<snip>

Robins is a good manager I feel and I do think he will turn this around. If he IS sacked however, whoever takes over would find himself in a very good position at the right end of the table and just a couple of wins away from being right in the mix for the automatics.

Whilst I agree that it is not all doom and gloom, and I've always thought that good teams were based on a good defence (which we have apart from Burge), I have to take issue with your statement that we are just a couple of wins away from the auto spots. People who say things like that always make the mistake of assuming the teams above us will pick up no points while we are enjoying our two wins. In reality, we are now actually more like 3 or 4 wins away from the automatic spots.

No, I am aware of that. It is feasibly possible to be just two wins and next week we play Luton. Automatically gain three points on them with a win.

A positive for me is that I have seen 5 home games and have yet to see a goal conceded. 4 wins and one draw.
Big improvement from last season!
Thankful for small mercies.

Nice thread Otis

Some good points in here definitely. Yesterdays game really had 0-0 or at best 1-0 to us nailed all over it. Yes we failed to unlock them enough but lets not forget it was very tense for long spells in the first half, with both teams cancelling each other out. A different game to Tuesday.

I agree a few tweaks are needed to rectify this horrible goalless run, but surely it has to mainly come from the strikers. I’ve seen suggestions to drop the holding midfield, and also to overlap the wingbacks more - sure that would offer more attacking options, but it would also scupper our near perfect defence! Think how many times Doyle and Kelly have pressed and picked up loose balls in the defensive third. Without that, we’d certainly be facing more attacking threats.

For me, Mcnulty needed to smash that one chance home yesterday. It was tedious finding a gap in Colchester defence, they set up chiefly to block the shots, knowing that Jones and Nazon will both shoot from 18 yards+. They even invited us on the wings again and again, mainly to keep bodies blocking direct shots. When we finally unlocked them, Mcnulty fluffed the chance. He’s GOT to finish those.

I just find it a weird that we are so bad, that Beavon, Biamou and McNulty are so crap, that Doyle is rubbish and our keeper isn't good enough and the formation and tactics are all wrong, but yet we have only let 8 goals in, in 15 games and are just 1 point from the play off positions.

The way the talk is on here I would have had us down as 12 points adrift at the bottom of the table.

It's no good having the best defence in the league if your not winning games !!!

Fans want to be entertained , especially when playing at home !!!

The Leeds team of old were boring and defensive but kept winning games and they had some quality player's.

but no goals in 4 is the start of a trend that will see us slip right down the table if it's not sorted. Keeping clean sheets is of no use if you're not scoring.

I'm normally fairly optimistic but this is a worrying rut we've gotten into.

It is, but we only lost on Tuesday to another goalkeeping howler and Biamou should have scored from that cross. Yesterday McNulty should have clearly scored a goal.

Okay so none of those things happened. Had they done so we would all be smiling.

The point is it's such a fine line and for that reason I am not as concerned as others.

Positive for me was deciding to go to the Rugger instead of the football.
TBF would have gone to the football but my Bro was unwell, and as none of my other fiends go anymore I went to the rugby with them instead.

On another positive note first time I expect City to lose on Saturday so will probably win.PUSB

The defence is great. We won’t get relegated with such a tight defence...we’ll just not get promoted without scoring more goals.

I’m more along Otis’s way of thinking (with better jokes) but something needs to change soon for us to stay up in the top half of the table. No need for the meltdown but I can see why many are worried and asking for change.

Genuinely feel the loss of Andreu really derailed our promotion charge before it began.

Positives on the pitch - the fitness level of Nazon is improving. 3-4 weeks ago he couldn't do 90 minutes without cramping up/ losing interest/ falling asleep.
Ryan Haynes - nice to see him back and could have had a couple of goals yesterday.

I got a shed off ebay yesterday really cheap.

I didn’t say that we should have the best defence in the league at the expense of winning games.

I don’t see a strong defence and a competent attack as mutually exclusive. In my view we have 50% of the equation solved, we just need the strikers to take their chances when presented with them.
