cov airport has plenty of beautiful villages close by , and still close to coventry, birmingham, and towns like leamington and warwick, welcome to coventry.

Thank you thaiskyblue, I really think I'm going to enjoy your city, such friendly helpful people. We looked at Leamington, seems pretty expensive there but still taking notes on all villages and areas everyone has suggested. NICE LOT YOU SKY BLUES !!!

Hi Last Garrison, noooo wont ignore you and questions are not intrusive, I just clicked google search for Coventry Forum and this site popped up, then I see the General Chat option, so here I am. I lived in Southwest Florida just above the everglades for 7years, and from there we moved across to Southern Spain, about 45mins up from Gibraltar. Loved USA, the way of life, travelling all over America when hubby had holiday from work. Not so keen on the hurricanes we had, I got caught in Katrina in Miami when it first hit land and wow that was bad, then Wilma hit where we lived, we had no electricity for 2 days and at the height of the hurricane it was pretty scary. From there we moved to Spain, we are here now and have been for 2+years. Very pretty, wonderful people and culture, its very Spanish where we live, not like Malaga and Benidorm. Time however for us to move back to UK and a job has arisen at Coventry airport. We are now arranging to move our stuff across to Coventry and make it, hopefully our permanent home, so want to get it right of course. We are looking for rental property and maybe buy later when hubby is secure with job.
Hope that answers our questions. Bored at work ? Maybe you need career change.....lol

Cool, sounds like you have certainly lived the life! Never fancied America growing up but been there a couple of times in recent years and loved it so keen to get back and explore some more.

No offence but you may find Coventry a bit of a come down after America and sunny Spain!!

I definitely need a career change but that's a whole different story!

If your husband is working at Coventry Airport then it is worth checking out the Morrisons estate (google will help) and also a little further out but still easy enough to get to the airport is Clifford Bridge Road and the estate round there. Plenty of houses to rent and not rough in the slightest.

Enjoy.

South of the city centre? that implies it's all posh there and rough elsewhere - not true. I work all around the city as driver and would say the more affluent areas around the airport are Baginton, Binley Woods, Ryton, Bubbenhall, Styvechale, Wolston though they're probably all very expensive to rent. areas to avoid are Willenhall , Stoke Aldermoor. Some nicer areas that are north of city centre :O include Tamworth road, Allesley, Coundon

Move anywhere except for next door to me!

Only areas I would say avoid would be Willenhall, Wood End and some parts of Tile Hill/Canley, Stoke and Wyken.

Coundon isn't bad, Potters Green, Woodway Park, Finham, Styvechale. There's a few nice areas to be found. I live right on the edge of Coundon/Radford/Keresley. A few feet in either of the directions and I would be classed as being in another area mind.

Do you want to be near the city centre or would prefer the outskirts?

Bizarre opinions there, not sure what is so special about Potters Green or Woodway Park.

Just my view of course, but I'd move somewhere just outside of Coventry.

Has anybody mentioned Sixfields(can't be bothered to read whole thread!)

I've lived in Whitley Village before - not too bad - and Cheylesmore, Stivechale isn't too bad - also bits of Binley ok (but not all - and I've lived there, so I know there's at least two dodgy people there - that lad on his quad bike or the one who nicked my 'For Sale' sign. Or it might only be one dodgy person if it was the lad on the quad bike who nicked my sign ;). Nicely tucked away in Warwick now - but still a Cov boy at heart (due to the Sky Blues!)

Toll Bar End. It's neither Willenhall or Whitley, great for motorway and major road networks and crucially, a stones throw from Cov airport. I'll be renting my house out in a few months time, and yes it is in Toll Bar End!

OK oscillatewildly, will way up Toll Bar End and look at times to drive to airport, you off somewhere else if your renting yours out then? Maybe you could send me details if area is OK !!! We would sooner have private rent than agent, they charge 'stupid' money apparently for registering etc.....I'm non smoker, no pets, no kids, middle aged, clean, clean very clean and respectful of other peoples stuff as we have had rental property we let out ourselves. Touch wood we have always had very nice people renting from us but that of course is down south where we originally come from.

Would you really recommend Toll Bar End if you weren't looking to rent your own house? ;)

Not heard of Sixfields Sky Blue Harry, was originally looking at Binley but few people have said parts of it OK other parts to be warey of. Fancy nicking your 'For Sale' sign.....if I see lad on quad bike I'll flatten him for yer !!
All joking aside, thank you for input !

With all the work that will be going on at the Toll Bar Island for the next few years, I would suggest a village on the south side. Ryton, Baginton, Bubbenhall etc. All very close to the airport without the need to get stuck in the mass of traffic that's going to be clogging up that island.

Binley Woods, Finham, Styvechale are within reach of the Airport without needing to get in those jams too.

I live in Eastern Green and have done all my life it certainly is one of the better parts of the city to live in (from what I have been told), generally quiet and a couple of new pubs opened that seem OK. Down sides are public transport didn't used to be that great and there isn't much in the way of very nice restaurants so would need to travel to Meriden (5 mins down the road) for a nice thai or Kenilworth 10-15 mins down the road. I work in Leicester so go past Coventry airport every morning and at the time of day I go it takes about 20 mins to pass, 25 for my wife slightly later. We are looking at moving to Kenilworth at the moment but would have no problems moving elsewhere in Eastern Green.

Me and the Missus slipped quietly away from Coventry 4 years ago and now live on the Isle of Wight. Personally, I would never move back but that's not to say I don't love my home city. There are many areas in the city that are really good and some that are pretty rough - as with a lot of places (yes, even here on the island!) - so it's a question of looking at options. I think most areas have been mentioned on here, so I won't make any suggestions, just to say good luck with your move. Choose wisely and settle down in your new life. ;)

Thanks Flying Fokker, Ive had a look at crime stats in Coventry areas and yes few areas don't fancy living in. Bedworth seems nice place, and if you have stayed there for 50years it must be good area to live. How long does it take to get to airport roughly ? Yes like quiet areas don't want to get stuck living somewhere near noisy motorway's.

15-20 mins generally. Motorway M6 J3. To J2
Can get caught out if motorway is closed. In which case 30-40 mins using A444 and A45 it depends on the time of day

Ok may have missed it earlier, where are you from originally? The uk?
What were you used to, what are your expectations?
There are definately areas to avoid, many have been metioned, even in some of the posher areas mentioned there are people i wouldnt want to be around on a regular basis. I guess its class related, where would you be happier, upper class lower class, dont really mind?
What do you want from your neighbours/community, are you mixers or tend to keep yourselves to yourselves, so many variables on choosing somewhere to live in a city you dont know!
You want to be near the hustle and bustle at the heart of the community or out in a quiet leafy suburb, choices, choices, they are all here, im sure if your researching the city on the internet you have a good idea what and where you want, have read some of the positive reports/stories im also sure you will have seen the negatives, perhaps better to ask when you have narrowed it down to a few places you are contemplating.

Good luck, hope you like Coventry!

Loved the Isle of Wight when I went there a few years ago. I'm defiantly trying to get out of Coventry. This isn't an insult to Cov, but I've never found anything about it appealing to me. Even some of the nicer area's seem to be going downhill slowly. Problem with any move when it's a long distance though is job mainly.

MDS......

Thank you , I love people and must say I'm a chatter....however, my husband is bit starchy and not really much of a mixer...bless him. I want to get out and about, mix, meet people, do maybe some work at a hospital, not necessarily paid but just to give back in life (if you see what I mean). Im originally from Tottenham, hey great footy team there guys!!! However, I have lived in many places in world due to hubbys military work. Just really want to be someone where I can catch a bus, go to shops easily if I need pint of milk etc, and be in a decent 'ish' area. As we are renting I really don't want to pay over the top rent in posh area, just want nice run of the mill house to live in up to 5miles maybe from airport.
Thank you for your input !

Not trying to be rude, but why Coventry? There are plenty of places in the UK that offer a lot more and are actually cheaper to live in.

Hi Tad,
That's where the job is for my husband. Coventry airport. Our families are now living in Norwich area but there is no aviation job there, so we are leaving Spain and moving to Coventry. Quite looking forward to it actually

From what you have started I'd recommend Earlsdon - the village in the city. A good community with things always going on.
Its near the centre but doesn't feel too urban.
You may not want to buy there but it may be a good base to rent and get to know the Coventry area better.

Good advice, and not to be underestimated. The massive changes coming to Tollbar over 5 years (yes 5) will mean absolute chaos and not just in the immediate vicinity of the island, but on all the approaches from East and North of the island. I'd look west of Bagington, towards Cubbington. Leamington, Bubbenhall, etc. Living in Cheylesmore, I'm expecting all roads leading to hell for some time to come. Two wheels will be better than four in rush hour!
