Match Thread Watford FC - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 9th Mar

Just to say again that this was a boy of about 11. However, just because ‘he was giving Cov fans some’ he then becomes fair game? Once again, this is an 11 year old boy. Who are the adults here and who the children? I watched most of the shoot out and all I seen of him was that he was becoming...

Match Thread Watford FC - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 9th Mar

I think the fact that a lot of our fans were singing it is part of the problem. We’re talking about an 11 year old boy here who has a thousand plus adults jeering him after he mis-kicked a penalty in a half time shoot out. Do you think the boy himself found it light hearted? I wonder if you have...

Match Thread Watford FC - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 9th Mar

I didn’t think it was class. Great the cheering and applause for the team in red. However, what you are talking about are grown men and women jeering and making fun of a primary school kid because he was upset about missing a penalty. Was there really a need to chant ‘You’re gonna cry in a...

    Missing piece of the jigsaw

Clive Haywood played for Bulova in Hong Kong with Hutch.

    Missing piece of the jigsaw

I loved watching Graham Oakey play. Such a skilful full back. It was like having an extra winger in the team. Oakey my favourite ever right back and Bobby Mac my favourite left back. We had such an attacking team. It was pure joy watching them play.

    Missing piece of the jigsaw

Tommy was a naturally fit bloke, very rarely injured. He fact that he was still playing professionally at the age of 46 is testament to that.

    Missing piece of the jigsaw

Gillespie scored a goal for us against Arsenal where he broke free of their defence on the half way line, carried the ball into their box, rounded the keeper( Seaman?, Phil Parkes?) and slotted the ball into the net. A very skilful, ball playing centre half. For all of that, if you could only...

    QF Draw

He was being touted as the new Bobby Moore for his reading of the game but his lack of pace was really exposed in this match.

    QF Draw

I seem to remember it was about 17k City fans there for that match. However I’ve just watched YouTube clips of that game and there were plenty of Wolves fans in the Southbank celebrating John Richard’s goal. We had such a good team that year I was sure we were going to win The Cup.

Match Thread Coventry City - Maidstone United [FA] Match Thread - Monday 26th Feb

We thumped Macclesfield. It was Woking and their player’s attitude that annoyed McAlister. We drew 1-1 at Highfield Road and scraped through in the replay 2-1. I think that there had been some disrespectful comments from them about our players in the press.

Win promotion or the FA Cup ?

I would generally agree with you in that anything pre-Premier League era is wrongly discounted. A second division team winning the cup now simply emulates a second division club winning it pre ‘92. However, such is the dominance of the ‘big’ clubs that it is really unusual for any team, even...

    Most FA cup goals

Just read in the magazine When Saturday Comes that this game was chosen to trial the use of goal nets for the first time. The Hyde goalkeeper that day must have been pleased. Saved him from charging across a field 26 times to retrieve the ball!

Home fans in South Stand v Preston - Trial Confirmed

Bit of symmetry here as I think it was down to attacks on Preston fans getting onto their coaches after a game a few years ago that lead to the closure of this stand to home fans. You would hope that people behave so that City fans behind both goals can continue.

Most games in a season against the same team

Because the FA Cup used to be a competition where you played replay after replay until you had a winner, you could in theory play countless games against the same team. I remember in the 80s playing Wolves 3 times in one FA Cup round, draw at Highfield Road, draw at Molineux then second replay...

    Sheaf to Luton?

I think Liam Kelly looked decent with those two as Liam Kelly is/was decent. Looked good in his games this season too without either Sheaf or Hamer.

    KP45 - more action now

We had a game at West Brom in the late 70s. Albion had Regis, Cunningham and Batson playing for them at the time. Those players were subjected to Racist abuse from a large proportion of our ‘fans’ that night, including having bananas thrown at them. If I am still around and following City then...

Showing support for Palmer on Friday

Shame that someone like yourself comes on with good intentions and then receives abuse. I think it’s good that fans like yourself come on here in the right way to make a point. I’d ignore those who seem threatened by this. We have plenty of Neanderthals who follow this club including racists and...

I saw an older bloke miss his step due to the curb and fall quite heavily after the Oxford game. In the crush of people moving down to the tunnels at the end of the game, the curb is hard to see.

It’s a park/ green space that is adjacent to Blackburn Road. If a proper pathway was put in it would allow access to the canal bridge at the North Stand end.
