O'Brien - Man of the match. 4 or 5 decent saves and showed he can shot stop as well which was a good test for him. - 8
Grimmer - Couple of good attacking positions, defensively a bit sloppy. Sort of an assist - 6
Hyam - Couldn't really deal with their strikers dropping into the massive gap between our defence and strikers and doing what they wanted - 5
McDonald - The same as Hyam, a few good tackles and decent passing - 6
Camwell - Not sure he is ready defensively but got forward well, a couple of decent crosses into the box - 5
Stevenson - Non existent apart from 1 cross, could never imagine him playing in the Championship like that - 4
Shipley - Ran about a lot, but never really close to any of their players - 4
Jones - A few good bits. He has improved his defensive game and nips in to take the ball and also challenges for headers now. - 5
DKE - Won a few headers and flew in for tackles, but not really in the game. - 6
Nazon - Has a knack of the ball bouncing in his favour and coming away with it, sometimes tried too much but half the time he had 3 players on him with none of our players. Made the goal with a decent turn - 7
Biamou - Windy outside today, he had probably better stay indoors so he doesn't blow away. Obviously it's a step up and too soon to be able to tell but he needs to man up a little bit, last night and in pre season he seems a bit too fragile and wants to lie on the floor- 4

Beavon - Ran about a lot while Blackburn passed it about - 5
Ponticelli - Can only remember about 1 or 2 touches but ran about and pressured their defence and stole the ball, Him and Beavon made a difference but it was they were alone in pressuring and pressing so it just got passed to midfield around them and made their running pointless - 5
Finn - Didn't really get time to make an impact - NA

Expected to lose last night anyway, just a bit annoying in the manor we did. The good parts are that O'Brien was tested and Robins gets an idea of who he can rely on and who he can't.

Expected to lose last night anyway, just a bit annoying in the manor we did. The good parts are that O'Brien was tested and Robins gets an idea of who he can rely on and who he can't.

O'Brien - 7.5. Thought he was commanding and dealt with the ball really well and with all that rain it must have been so much more difficult to handle. MOTM.

Grimmer - 5. Good going forwards, but a worry at the back and one suicidal pass out of defence.

McDonald - 7. Thought he played well. Strong and battled hard all game. He always seems so assured too and shows no signs of panic.

Hyam - 6. Quieter game than McDonald, but overall I thought he did okay. Problem for me was in the middle of the park rather than the back.

Camwell - 6. Thought he did quite well. Got skinned once and a couple of bits of dodgy distribution, but otherwise stood up well and has a nice touch on him.

DKE - 5. Worked his socks off, but offered little when he had the ball.

Stevenson - 5. One good shot on goal and a couple of nice defence splitting passes, but disappointing for the most part and not the same player as when he first burst onto the scene.

Shipley - 4. Nothing came off for the lad. Literally nothing. It was poor pass after poor pass and both Shipley and Stevenson got bypassed with ease on the night.

Jones - 5. Lively, but again nothing came off for him on the night. Was also worried by some of the little flicks and one twos he was attempting around our own box.

Nazon 6.5 - Great in the first half and was a real threat, but did fade a bit in the second half, but they all did as the game wore on.

Biamou - 4. Very, very disappointed with him and he even chickened out of two challenges. Looked lightweight and clueless and reminded me of Kwame Thomas at his worst. Hope there is much more to him than we have seen so far.

Courtney Baker-Richardson - 0. Again nothing from him. Waste of space.

O'Brien 7 - commanding, composed not really at fault for the goals. MOTM.
Grimmer 5 - hot and cold, offered a outlet but silly error for the goal
Hyam 5 - adapting to the demands, did ok but exposed by midfield.
Mcdonald 6 - the best of the back 4, looks a player
Cramwell 6 - desire commitment, decent prospect
JJ 4 - not in the game much, JJ of old last night.
Shiperly 4 - part of a poor inexperienced midfield, it showed.
Stevenson 3 - anonymous, expect better
DKE 5 - unlucky, tried but Nazon never used him when in good space
Nazon 5 - scored, few fancy tricks to offer good first half. Decision making poor tho
Biamou 4 - given nothing by Blackburn or city to work of

Beavon 4 game was done as Blackburn dictated
Ponticelli 4 same as Beavon, worked.
Finn - game over to score.

O'Brien- definitely motm for me pulled off some good saves, ready to bollock players not doing there job kicking a bit dodgy at times but he never really had anyone to aim at-7

Grimmer - theres something you like about him but he does get caught with the ball goung forwards and dreadful clearance for their 1st goal although he was covering and it was his left foot -6

McDonald- like him very assured doesn't aimlessly boot the ball out of play again sprayed good balls out wide-7

Hyam- without being spectacular he goes about his job well -6

Camwell- few good tackles few dodgy passes few good crosses definitely something in him -6

Jones - not really his night he has a plan A which is running at players but just needs to work on his plan B when he doesnt have the space to run at players but not relly his night last night-5

Shipley- not a good night for the lad didnt tackle and couldnt pass a real mismatch for him seemed lost -3

Stevenson- apparently when he played for the U18's he had a 99% pass rate this wasnt in evidence last night gave the ball away last night under no real pressure seemed lacking in confidence but he did have 2 positions to cover...his and Shipleys -4

DKE- seemed a little lost last night had little options for a pass around him but battled as him and his brother both do -5

Biamou- absolutely waste of space, didnt look interested half jogged on closing down offered no threat whatsoever -2

Nazon- showed some nice touches got caught with the ball a lot but got closed down very quick with 2 to 3 players had he had options ie idle Biamou to pass maybe he wouldnt have had the ball taken off him so much but finished his goal very well onto it very quick.. more to come from him for sure -7

Subs

Beavon -6
Ponticelli-5
Finn- 5

I thought tonight we just got beat by a better team. I saw enough in the young players to think that they can contribute positively this season when called upon. I think it is incredibly unlikely we'll end up with the midfield we had last night again this season, especially in the league.

O'Brien - made some good saves, claimed crosses, probably our best performer on the night. 7
Grimmer - made an error for their second goal. 5
Hyam - looked a tad out of his depth tonight. 5
McDonald - looks like a player who could play at L1 level, won most headers and tackled well. Calming influence and good choice for captain this game. 6
Camwell - was quite impressed, put in a couple of decent crosses and made some good tackles, even if he did get skinned early on. 6
Shipley - kept it simple and did his job competently. Felt like he could've done with either Doyle or Kelly next to him. 5
Stevenson - like his ambition, some good passes came off, others didn't. As with Shipley, his game benefits with Doyle or Kelly beside him. 5
Jones - nothing really came off for the lad today and he wasn't afforded much space do his thing. 5
Nazon - was promising early on, even got a goal, but sometimes struggled to get a pass off and thought his performance dropped in the second and in particular when he went to the right. 6
De. Kelly-Evans - was a whippet and looks like he can contribute this season. But, he was contained by Blackburn. Faded out as the game wore on. 5
Biamou - ineffective performance summed up by a cross in the first half where he got space for himself for a header, and missed it. I can appreciate Blackburn's defenders are upper L1 standard, but looked like it was out of his depth tonight. 4

Subs:

Beavon - came on and pressed but didn't have much else to do. 5
Ponticelli - first impression of this lad is positive, did well in one run before it was snuffed out with no support. 5
Finn - didn't really have time to make a difference either way. N/A

O'Brien 7- commanded his box very well, collected everything the he went for and there was nothing he could've done about the 3 goals as one was a screamer and the other two were deflections
Grimmer 5- was decent in defence with some good sliding challenge but his poor clearance set up their second and he deflected their third in
Hyam 5- Samuel ran rings around him and he struggles to cope against a forward with pace rather than the hoofball of Notts County on Saturday
McDonald 7- played very well considering we lost 3-1 but struggled with having to cover for Hyam on a few occasions but he is certainly looking a great acquisition so far
Camwell 4- started the match off very well with some good interceptions and slide tackles but ruined his game once he got carded as he could no longer go in for the challenges and their winger would just knock the ball past him and run.
Jones 4- the Jones of last season returned as he persistently tried to cut in onto his right foot but other than that there wasn't much he could do as Blackburn doubled up on him which nullified his threat
Stevenson 3- looked composed on the ball but his passing was awful and offered nothing to the side attacking wise or defensively
Shipley 1- I understand it was one of his first games professionally for the club but it was by far one of the worst performances I've seen in a Coventry shirt for a long time. Looked scared on the ball which meant he rushed his passes and they always went to the opposition and also looked poor defensively and left too much space in between the midfield and defence
DKE 4-started the game lively but teetered out relatively early on and lacked an attacking presence which was required on the wing
Biamou 2- offered very little throughout the game and seemed to prefer to stay in the floor
Nazon 5- Good finish for his goal but other than that he looked like a one trick pony who did not use his support once and got the ball stuck under his feet on most occasions

Subs
Beavon and Finn 4- neither were able to impact the game as by the time they were on Blackburn were dominating and we had no attacking chances
Pontcelli 5- energetic throughout his short stint but offered nothing else due to us not having much of the ball in the final 20 minutes

from reading the ratings so far sounds like we have a team that should have enough to challenge for promotion in l2 but if we do go up alot changes be needed to stay up in l1 again.

Stevenson gave the ball away more often than Shipley so I have no idea how you've come to the conclusion any player deserved a 1 rating.

this did cross my mind. i imagined how we would do playing cov team of 2 years ago when we were top of league 1. but as other shave mentioned we did have 4 or 5 academy players so that makes a big difference

lets get promoted first. then we can worry about who needs to be upgraded lol

O'Brien - 7.5 couldnt really do anything with any of the goals, some decent shot stopping and distribution much better than Saturday
Grimmer - 6.5 Really like the look of him but marking him down slightly for the defensive mistake that lead to the second goal
Hyam - 6 Didn't do too much wrong but Samuel proved a handful
Mcdonald - 6.5 Similar to Hyam but a few beefy challenges
Camwell - 5.5 thought his passing was way word and he looked nervous.
Jones - 6.5 Surprised by the negativity, was an outlet who ran at people when we could get him on the ball. Thought he was our brightest spark.
Stevenson - 5.5 didnt think he did as badly as previously suggested but that might be because he looked like a diamond next to Shipley.
Shipley - 3 thought he was very poor. Don't want to be too harsh on the guy as it was his debut and I hope he can turn it round for his next appearance. Everyone's allowed a few poor games but he didn't look up to standard
Kelly-Evans - 5.5 seen a few games of him previously and really like the look of him but tonight wasn't his night
Nazon - 6.5 took his goal fairly well, has great feet just worry h emight try and overplay everything.
Biamou - 1 . I dont get what he did to warrant the very generous 4 people have given him?

three subs didnt really get the chance to make an impact but their workrate alone was enough to create an improvement on the performance
