Go to "search" box (top tight of screen), type "christonabike". That will bring him up. Then click on his name. You should then see the option to "start a conversation"...............

Careful of sportkas. 1.6 motor that's not that economical.

Funny thing is, Rich, I cleared the tubes out and the washer jets were working, five minutes later they're on the blink again...could it be that there's a major gunk build-up in the washer tubes?

I passed my test coming up to two years ago (at the age of 30) and managed to pick up a nice bmw 320d 52 plate for £1600. Depending on his age and experience I think they are solid cars, but I have a family so needed something big enough and half decent.
As I had only just passed my test my insurance started at £165 a month but it flew through it's first MOT and the second MOT I had to get the bushes replaced (along with the side arms as it works out cheaper in the long run) that cost me £300 including labour but i can't fault it for a first car and feel my kids are safer in it rather than a cheaply built KA etc. If it is a short term car for just him then I would probably go for half decent focus/golf etc

Right gents just let me know what you are looking for but avoid french cars as they are just not worth it when over ten years old.
I can come with any member on SBT and offer you my assistance if you see a car you fancy free of charge. Honda Toyota and Nissan are great chain driven cars offering good value but Im not one to pick them for you.
Having said that just PM me Ive got a few businesses going in that area inc engine diagnostics so I'm here to help!

Tempted to get an Audi S5 one day, what are they like? All seem to have a fair few miles on for my price range but reliable if they are looked after?

They're excellent, but a bit harsher on the road I think to the normal A5. I had an A6 3L Quattro a few years ago, and found driving the front wheel drives not so good after that. Spoilt me I think.

Edited to say I did 100k in 3 years with no problems at all in the A6. Guy who worked for me had the 2L avant and did 330k miles before it died. He only ever changed usual stuff, tyres brakes etc.

It always scares me to see them with like 90k on the clock that I'm expecting the engine to go or something and it won't be a cheap fix. :(

Only looking at a 2008 or so so not silly money, just a bit of fun.

Keep finding loads of nice ones but instantly put off by mileage :(

If it's been serviced by a main dealer properly, then don't be.

Another mate bought a Mercedes with 480k miles on it..!, he reckoned the price he paid, he could drop a new engine in and still be quids in. Over 500k now and still going strong..

    Bloody hell, that's silly miles.

Might go and test drive a couple, just always worry about the engine dropping out after a week!

Audi BMW etc do the miles but a top tip is service history and spend a few hours on the owners club forums. Just look on the technical forums.
If manual the clutches tend to be £800 s throw do bear it in mind.

Always do a bit of research first anyway just to see the common problems.

Will wait for a bit and test drive a couple to see if they are any good. Hopefully it won't have a stash of drugs in the back from it's last owner :(

Always prefer to buy from garages too, feels a bit safer than a private seller so at least if the engine falls out I can drive it through their front gate ;)

Take a gander on eBay or shop windows or supermarkets etc. Many a bargain to be had and if you see one you like they tend to be private owners and will accommodate you reference history and what money they have spent on it over the years.
Might do a write up on here for everyone from my 30 years experience if that's ok? Just tips on what to look out for and how to avoid rogue traders etc.

    That would indeed be handy!

Tend to go main dealer nowadays just because of being burned in my youth, and I know full well I pay a premium for that.

If you want a cheap to run car, and low insurance, I have a VW Polo, 1.4 Diesel and would recommend it :)

£30 a year tax, and insurance is pretty good for my age.

Also, cost about £30-35 in diesel to drive from Bournemouth to Newcastle :)

My last car was a Ford Focus. I had it from new for three years and when I got rid, it had only done 9584 miles. Biggest heap of shit I've ever had. I would NEVER have another Ford! I now drive a new Skoda Yeti. Fantastic car!
