Discuss the Coventry v Brighton U21 match, tactics and predictions
huge game for me. keeping season alive as i dont think we will get relegated.
play strongest team possible.
Worried about defence with Clarke not able to play and Harries not being about.
Considering our U23s are ahead of their U23s in the Development League and our U18s have beaten them home and away this season, maybe we should play some of them.
Edit: don't those two facts make an absolute mockery of having U21 sides in the competition?
Unless they chuck some first teamers in.
Just checked the rules, didn't realise they can play 5 first teamers (and I assume have a full bench of them).
This competition is a joke.
Yeah, they can load them up but we couldn't play loads of our U23 players
Win!! Slade to pick his strongest side too. We need to sort the defence out though with Clarke and Harries both missing and maybe Willis on his way out of the club.
As it stands it will have to be Stokes to come in to play centre half.
Foley cup tied, so as it stands....
DKE Turnbull Stokes Haynes
Thomas Rose Reilly Reid
Turnbull is suspended for this one, 2 yellows in the comp so far = 1 game ban.
In that case we are screwed unless Slade brings in reinforcements who are not cup tied for this trophy.
Can see Bigi having to play centre back at this rate.
Stokes had better be fit, otherwise we have zero centre backs.
Slade needs to wheel and deal like he has never whelt and dealt before.
I'm sure Samuel Ricketts would come out of retirement for one game, if Slade asked him nicely
I guess Foley could slot in there as an emergency.
Unless he is cup tied?
Foley is cup tied.
The new Messiah Slade will have to untie him
Ah didn't think about that
Doubt they will play any first teamers - what's more important; promotion to the Prem, orthe Checkatrade trophy?
Depends how far they get, I bet a Semi Final 1-0 down they and others will be throwing on some names.
I doubt it very much - they are currently top and will likely be there abouts come semi final and Final time. Why jeopardise that - particularly as they have come close to going up over the last few seasons?
Would probably have to be Willis (assuming he is fit/still here) alongside a half fit Stokes at CB, unless Slade drops someone rogue back there - seem to remember Gunnarsson doing a reasonable job at QPR away under Coleman when we had a CB crisis.
He has the height.
Either him or DKE.
Yeah was thinking Rose would be the sensible shout.
Gotta go for this and give it as much as we can.
Yes, we do need to focus on avoiding relegation, but I doubt our league position will offer us any cheer at the end of the season, this might.
If we try and we lose, we lose. If we win, it's a bit of a confidence boost and maybe gives us a pop at giving the fans a day out.
March to the arch to continue!
Little concerned about the lack of defensive options but we have ample to select from in midfield and could always play one of the CM's at the back. Or perhaps two DCM just in front to fill the gaps.
Hoping Stokes is fit. Ideal fixture for him to come back in
Is foley cup tied?
Hmm tricky one if Foley and Clarke both cup tied is Harries unavailable to play? I know training with Liverpool but getting him game time would be good for both parties I would have thought? Assuming he is not available think we would go with following.
Subs: Burge, Stokes, Finch, Maycock, Lameiras, Biyad, Ponticelli
We do look short for game but more bodies could come in of course and also Stevenson not gone yet...
DKE Willis Harries Haynes (stokes if ready)
Thomas Rose Bigi Reid
That still leaves Stevenson, Jones, Lamerais and Reilly if needed. I don't see why people are worrying?
I tend to agree, the team they pick for todays cup tie against MK Dons might give us a few indicators towards their intentions.
If they rest players today I can't see them throwing anyone in on Tuesday.
Even we think it's a tinpot cup, so don't expect Brighton, with one eye on promotion and fielding an U21 side, to give much of a shit.
Depends how deep their squad is.
Most of them down here don't even realise they are playing us.
Is Leahy back from loan? Could stick him in or at LB and put Haynes in the middle (gulp).
People are assuming Willis and Harries won't be available. Harries I think certainly isn't as he's still pimping himself to Liverpool.
Think people are just going worst case scenario.
Most of our team are under 23.
Anyway nice 4-1 to the City
