FANS STILL WAVERING - despite recent events !!! (1 Viewer)

5 diehard adult fans in my little club, myself (1xST), another (3xST incl children), another (1xST), another (3xST incl children), another (3xST incl children)
= 11xST potential.

Unfortunately only 4xST purchased to date - the remaining 3 adults + 4 children not purchased yet (and not likely to be) with SISU the reason still leaving a bad taste despite all the recent positive upheaval both on and off the pitch.

I'll have to do some arm bending but they are all bigger than me.

Joking apart very worrying methinks !!!

I think people get too hung up on season tickets. I haven t got one but I bet I ll still go to every game and arguably put more money into the club than a season ticket holder

Johnnie. What the Fuck Yeah okay I won't sign your kids to play up front for us OK now go. Buy a shirt and sing play up!

Understand that Macca but whereas all 11 would have by now been purchased the trend, although mightily statistically distorted,
still does not look good

You know im going to be honest here. I've not been to a city match since opening day of our second season at the Richo (2006). There have been various reason why. I don't earn a lot of money and i spent 5 years living in Wales doing my degree (2006 onwards). On top of this im a professional actor so i spend a lot of my time on the road. All in all this means i haven't been able to make any games for 6 years.

Despite all this, i plan on trying to make as many games as i can this season. I know SISU have screwed us over but they've tried to put some of their monumental cock ups right over the past 2 months and im hoping they will continue to do so. Not buying a season ticket means the money isn't going into the club. We don't own the arena so we only get gate receipts. No concert money etc. The club is literally hanging on by the skin of its teeth and your ST money is part of that life line.

But i can't persuade the doubters. I'm not going to try. In the end its their decision whether they buy a ST or not. I just hope it doesn't spell the end for us...

Despite this Gumms, you have the incredulity to tell someone who has been going to every home game for the past 5 years to "do one" for being critical of our all-of-a-sudden Messianic owners? Come back in a few years when you've shown a bit of support for our club!

Says the man who threatened never to go again, or be involved, if saint Bigirimana left? Hypocritical isnt it? Still waiting for my answer as to why you havent disappeared yet or was it empty words like the SISU you despise?

Perhaps ultimately you may do, but it doesn't serve the club do well as they can't budget for unknown expenditure. The basis of their business plan will primarily be based on known income. They may partially speculate on more staccato income, such as walk-ups, unexpected television appearances or a decent cup run; but they won't budget for it. As such, your mystique doesn't help the club as much as the greater cash might make you think it might

The three of us who have had one for the last few seasons haven't got them this year. I can't speak for them but my main reasons are that I'm now involved with a Saturday football team and if I weren't it's far too expensive for League One football

Hmmm. Can't agree with you on that one.

One of the fun bits about this season - if there are any - will be the fact that we will be a big fish in a small pond. Without being bombastic, our stadium facilities and lets hope playing squad will be an epoch apart from the balance of the league. Imagine being a Yeovil supporter and coming to the Ricoh and trying the casino for a cheeky drink ahead of kick-off. Its something rare.

And if we are to enjoy this privilege, there's a cost associated therewith that cannot be jettisoned overnight

I think as far as expense goes the season ticket is reasonable value. Very few seating season tickets are below £300.

Don t see the relationship between our stadium, players and Star Wars but still.

I m worried that the Ricoh may be a handicap. Atmosphere wise that is

He did reply when i asked him about this earlier, was something like, "er, well, my friend bought two season tickets, and it was too late not to take it, so I've got to go, and er, um well".

Found it a bit far-fetched to be honest.

He has a friend??

Myself and 3 others had been ST holders for coming up to 20 years but didn't renew this season.

They'd have a lot to do to regain the trust of many of our supporters'. I'm not sure they ever could to be honest.

You still stalking me then Lord?

My mate bought 2 season tickets this season-like he always has done. He used to take business clients and family until his son emigrated to NZ and he semi-retired from work. He tried to get his nephew interested, but he just didn't want to know. So I started buying the spare ticket as it was going to the point where I was going every week. But at no point did I have to pay in advance-I just paid my mate on the day.

Last season I told him I wouldn't be able to make nearly as many games due to staff shortages at work. I also told him that I wasn't prepared to pay money to support SISU every week any more. He got the two tickets regardless, saying "You don't have any commitment, just let me know if you can make it, and if you can't I'll take my niece". He's in his 60's and despite the fact that he moans even more than me, it's the highlight of his week: he actually appreciates my comments a little more than his nieces, as she doesn't really like football and pays little interest. So I said OK, with the proviso that I would only be available for half the games at most.

Then the fixtures came out, showing that I can't make nearly as many due to work, as expected. I'd have to swap shifts for most Saturday's, which would mean I'd be working 8 days straight quite a lot. I'm not particularly prepared to do that for a club owned by lying venture capitalists who aren't even prepared to pay the rent.

Then we sold Gael: I never thought that they'd let him go for such a fraction of his potential worth. My main reason for having hope this season was the prospect of watching him tearing the division to pieces. The irony being that if we had strengthened adequately under SISU, he wouldn't have been exposed before he was ready-and the Newcastle scouts maybe wouldn't have spotted his potential.

I'm still livid at the way that they are essentially selling anybody of any value, and replacing them with players that cost nothing in transfer fees. So I won't be going out of my way to swap shifts at work to get up there: if anything I'm inclined to say I'm busy even when I'm free.

I still support the club, but a little fire has gone out, I'll admit that. It won't be re-lit until SISU go.

And yes Lord, I do have other friends-none of which renewed their ST due to SISU.

Is that enough of an explanation for you, Chase, Lord and Sickboy? If not, then maybe we can carry on this conversation via PM?

I am struggling to find any players who a League One club has signed other than a free transfer - are there any?

I've no idea, my interest in football is waning to an extent that I'm not keeping abreast of L1 transfers.

But I don't know of a team who has been promoted from L1 without spending a fee on a solitary player. Or one that has brought as much money in through sales without re-investing at least a fraction of it in transfer fees. If anything, they SISU did more in this regard last season by letting Thorn spend some of the Turner money on Cody. Are we going to spend any of the Lukas, Gael or Keogh money on players? And if not, who are we going to have left to sell next year when SISU want their pound of flesh again?

If no clubs spend money this season there will be 3 that go up without spending :D

Despite this Gumms, you have the incredulity to tell someone who has been going to every home game for the past 5 years to "do one" for being critical of our all-of-a-sudden Messianic owners? Come back in a few years when you've shown a bit of support for our club!

Macbeth, Macbeth, Macbeth.

What part of my post did you not read??

ONE - i don't have the money to come to the games, i dont have a bottomless pit stuffed with money!
TWO - I spent 5 years out of the country at university and couldn't afford to make it to games as i came back to coventry 4/5 times in that whole time i was away and only for a day or two at a time
THREE - Im a Professional Actor so i spend a lot of my time traveling around the country, i therefore don't have the time to stop what im doing, come home and go to a game because i find myself at the other end of the country to where the team is playing a lot of the time!

Therefore, just because i haven't made a game in 6 years doesn't mean i haven't supported the team any less than you who has gone to every game in five years. This does not make me any less of a fan. I'm proud to be from Coventry and im proud to be a city supporter. When City were being shown live i'd try and find the nearest pub i could that was showing it so i could watch them. I sat by the radio most weekends listening to the city when i wasn't either doing course work or in some primary school in the middle of no where performing to several hundred children! I've kept up with the city news either through the net or via the telegraph and i've discussed the city with my friends whenever i get the chance & ive defended them when people have slated them in front me.

Yet YOU who have gone to matches and yet decided you were going to walk away when we sold Bigi, you who slate them to the ground, you who have no optimism. Even your name shows you to be someone who has no faith in our club. Whose the better fan, the one who goes to games but doesn't really support the team or the one who can't go to the games (even though he wants too) but Supports them none the less, regardless of where he is and what hes doing. DONT YOU DARE tell me i am any less of fan than you just because you have the bottomless pits for pockets with cash to burn!

I will support this club to the day i die. Even though I wont be living in this country from next year onwards i will still bring my children to see Coventry play as this city and its club are a part of me and they always will be!

No when i say i can't afford...i mean i can't afford it to the point where i have no money. I barely scrape by as it is without £20 per week on football games. I want to go just as much as anyone but i can't.

Though just so you know, by saying im not a good cov fan because i don't go to games, you lump in all those cov fans who live in other countries, all those cov fans who don't have money at all to go and all those cov fans who can't go because of either physical or mental dissabilities into the same catagory and im pretty sure that if i was to count them all it'd be into the thousands...
