I can see hundreds if not thousands of people in film, music, TV and even in general business absolutely shitting themselves at the minute.

Some of the stuff coming out is borderline insane, wanking into a plant pot in a hotel corridor?

Most of these dullards gave a standing ovation to Polanski when he won his an academy award. Hypocrites the bloody lot of them.

It's not a surprise that it's all coming to light now. His power has dwindled somewhat, but if any single person spoke up a few years ago they'd be absolutely buried. It's sympomatic of the incredible power of the old boy's club that runs Hollywood, and it shouldn't just be Weinstein held up but the others like him as well as all the people who actively assisted in procuring and intimidating vulnerable girls and boys for these vultures.

The best summary of it I read was that this isn't happening because Hollywood found out, it's because the public found out. It's Jimmy Savile all over again

Interesting conversation earlier today on LBC about this. How much suffering, misery and pain could have been avoided if those first abused by Weinstein would have came out at the time and outed him for the monster he is? IMO, the women who have kept their silence for 20+ years also have an awful lot to answer for.

Blaming the victims and accusing people with depression of trying to get some publicity. You're having a great day.

They left a sexual predator free to abuse innocent women for over 20 years. I'm not saying they're to blame for his actions, but they could have prevented a lot of these stories coming out now.

He'd have crushed anyone who came out years ago, he and his cronies were untouchable. It was the power that allowed him to force himself onto girls that also prevented them from being able to do anything about it. To suggest it was simply a case of telling people doesn't stand up when it transpires that most people knew anyway.

He’s a piece of shit. Same goes for Palanski and Woody Allen. They’ll be others too.

Just like all those kids who never spoke out about Jimmy Saville hey?

They were all victims and conditioned to be so not just by Weinstein but also the establishment that they worked in. They’ve got nothing to answer for or feel guilty about. If he couldn’t target women who he thought he could control to keep quiet he wouldn’t have done it. He thought he was untouchable and so did his victims. I’m just glad some found the courage to come out about it and others then also found the courage to follow. Hopefully all his victims will find that strength and he spends the rest of his natural life in prison and loses everything in the process.

It’s a very slippery slope to start blaming victims.

Definitely, it'll end up like Yewtree where it's almost quicker to name the people not involved.

I just don't see the thrill of it (from a blokes point of view). Can't think of anything more offputting than somebody stood there petrified of you.

(with the caveat that innocent until proven guilty must still apply)

It's good however that this comes out while he's still alive. I'm by no means of the string 'em up school of thought, but there was something deeply... unsatisfying that Jimmy Saville went to his grave unpunished.

Yep. I would say all the women who kept silent for 20 plus years have absolutely nothing to answer for.

To think someone could just end your career in the blink of an eye and who held such power in the industry.

The fact that it has taken 20 plus years just shows you how powerful this man truly was.

So stand up for what is right, but only if it will not impact your career?

A lot of the up-and-coming actresses he abused have long since become widely-known names - why are they only telling their stories now?

The fact that so many people knew shows just how powerful this man was and how futile speaking out against him would have been.

Up until very recently he had the power to ruin careers, which in turn could ruin lives. Again, very easy to make out that it's a simple case of telling someone but it's clearly not an easy thing to do.

What I can't get my head around is why he didn't just have 10 escorts round in his hot tub at a time, rather than trying to force people into things. Obviously not wired up right in the slightest.

Nobody's right in the head who does things like that... but it's usually around power and control.

You are right, NW. I read that rape is not about sex, but about power.

I posted in another thread on this subject. I've copied it below as I'm too lazy to write it out again. It was in reply to somebody saying the victims should have spoken up sooner

It doesn't happen when they're really famous, it happens when they're on the way up, so if they speak up at the time people's reaction is " who's she, obviously trying to make a name for herself". It's not so easy to be believed when nobody has heard of you. Emma Thompson summed it up best for me when saying Weinstein is not a sex addict but a sexual predator. I believe there was also an investigation into this before and no action was taken against him, I think we've heard this scenario before.

He signed a contract a few years back that allows for him to be sued for sexual harassment and not be fired so long as he keeps paying the costs. Fucking hell.

It's Jimmy Savile all over again. The powerful get away with murder because they pay people off or people are too scared to report what happens.
This guy used to greet potential actresses wearing only a towel and ask them for a massage - and he got away with it for years!
This sort of thing is endemic in Hollywood. And yet everyone has to be so politically correct to please them.

I think this is about as far from so called political correctness as it's possible to get. I agree with the rest of your post though.
One of the Pussycat dolls has just come out with some of the stuff that went on surrounding that band and if true it's shocking.

yep. Accusations against Bill probably a bit more spurious but it all point to men of power abusing their position. Absolutely disgusts me.

I think you made a good point, I just disagreed slightly with the terminology at the end. Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick, but I think we're both on the same page with how abhorrent we find this behaviour.
