The sixty minute sub thing was down to Chris Anderson. Look out for a CA video on youtube and you will see him talking in an interview about football statistics and statistically the best time to make a sub. First game we played with Anderson here was Northampton in the cup and that's when the sixty minute sub started happening. It's also when our decline started. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Statistical analysis is not how chess works and what works for chess usually works for most sports that are based around a form of attrition.

Advantages and disadvantages on a chess board exist objectively and are conditioned by the situation actually on the board.

Each game is largely unique in its nature.

The hint is there in Lasker's Manual of Chess (page 180) when talking about Philidor and the history of planning in Chess.
