I would think that this will ruffle a few feathers for some

http://www.premiershiprugby.com/clubs/34453.php#.VKvGQU1ybcs

but isn't this the kind of thing a professional club needs to do to embed in to a community. Is it the sort of thing CCFC should be doing perhaps?

They make a big thing about Shakespeare being from Warwickshire ....but mention nothing of rugby union starting in Warwickshire ...would think that was more relevant than Shakespeare ..

I could imagine how this would have gone down:

Running until the end of the season, versions of the Another Local Great campaign will be released which celebrate:
  • British GP at Silverstone
  • Camping out at Billing Aquadrome
  • Northampton TV Presenter Toby Anstis
  • Loads of people making shoes

Tim Fisher, CCFC CEO, said:

"Until now, our marketing has focussed on selling tickets to the opening games at Sixfields, but we recognise that there is still a lot of work for us to do in order to build and maintain a new fan base in Northamptonshire, to add to our existing, loyal supporter base. This campaign, along with the work we are already doing in the local community with schools and football clubs, is another way we're hoping to engage with a new audience and turn them into fans."

There would be absolute uproar, the same as when Tim Fisher was apparently stood on a roundabout handing out free tickets.

I do like the way they are going about this. It really looks like they want to be part of Coventry and now seem to be making the switch from being a London team to a Coventry team. I've said all along I have nothing against Wasps if they are serious about becoming part of Coventry and so far, they're making good on their promise

I can't see how it isn't franchising though? Steve from the Trust who has met them has even said it is good for them as they have a bigger untapped fanbase here than before.

Don't get me wrong, they are doing what every club should be doing and are setting the standard for CCFC's new PR company. It is just the people who will now be lapping it up ;)

I've always thought that CCFC should have made so so much more of the Specials & the whole 2 tone movement......playing their tunes before the game at the very least...

....you can keep the Shakespeare bollocks though.....what's he ever done eh??

Now The Specials were special..... If music be the food of love...play on

It does seem to be it is like a random American person who has just moved to England and is now suddenly walking around like they are The Enemys number one fan or something.

I think the worry for CCFC and Fisher has to be that there is now a top level sports team competing for the same community interest as CCFC have attempted to attract. That new competition is prepared to throw considerable resource at it and many will be attracted by the glitz of it. Indeed the RFU will support them in doing so in much the same way the FA/FL support clubs. In fact the seeming re-emergence of CRFC adds to the pressure to choose between football and rugby.

Just as an aside to that if they have done community studies for the supposed new stadium will those financials be affected by the new community competition and if so how much.

Give it a few years and if the Ricoh move doesn't work out for them they'll be talking about how much the love the local Newcastle community.

Don't get me wrong, CCFC's PR is absolutely awful. It wouldn't taken thousands of pounds to come up with great ideas, you have everyday people thinking up great ideas to attract fans on here that cost nothing. They might cost a little bit for a designer (I assume they employ one) and some flyers printing etc but not massive amounts but they don't even bother.

If anything, I would think it would be a great idea if CCFC and CRFC somehow did something joint..

I think all the parties in this have always had a "PR machine" that is to some extent backed by external specialists ........ the differences have been how sophisticated it is and how effective it was is.

Usually the parties crying foul have already done the same

I think the PR Machine point was the fact it was denied when they were complimented on their PR / Marketing.

Does this campaign not seem ironic that just a few months ago they were called London Wasps?

Apparently everyone can afford to go to both now and if you can't afford it thats your choice according to some on here.

CCFC had the opportunity to smooth over issues with fans over the last few years with the move away from cov etc but failed miserably. PR and marketing is based around trust, Wasps are building this trust as a family friendly club whereas CCFC do not have this viewpoint thanks to our owners.

I can only hope that the club didnt employ a PR company to simply belt out that 5 point plan as a one off, it needs sustained engagement with the fans and local community to even stand a chance. Even then it will be treated with the distain it deserves.

The campaign is clearly bull, they've proven they don't care about the local community when they uprooted from their old one. Obviously the idiots will lap it up as it wasn't done by SISU.

Thats the ironic thing about it all. It's like with this protest when you look on social media many of them so outraged with SISU are also now wasps fans...

I don't think anybody can actually fault them for doing it, as people will fall for it, they will promote it and then go back to slagging off SISU.

It must be the easiest marketing ever.

Wasps : I am going to come to your house, shit on your door step and punch your mum in the face.
City fan : Are you SISU?
Wasps : No
City fan : Thats ok then, just let me know when and I will leave the door open

To be fair, with pretty much every ticket for Wasps games at The Ricoh being a freebie. everybody can afford to do both.

Isn't there also a danger that they will alienate their existing(London) Wasps fanbase even further by increasingly cutting the clubs ties to them?

Putting all your eggs into the hotbed of fanatical sports support in Coventry basket would seem a bit of a risky strategy to me.

I would say it's a banker.

The slogan would be:

"we arent SISU and it is free, get your tickets to the bandwagon here"

Problem with campaigns of this type is they can easily come off as false and backfire. How hard would it be for some Wasps fans from London or Wycombe to imitate this campaign for their own locations.

Can anyone tell me where I can get hold of these free tickets because I seem to be the only person paying for mine according to this thread.

To Sick Boy I enjoy passionate discussion but fail to see how insults further the debate. To Nick it was a genuine question do you have evidence as has been stated on this thread that pretty much every ticket for Wasps games at the Ricoh are freebies.
I am well aware that many tickets particularly for the first match were given to schools and local rugby clubs intended for the youngsters to create a local following. Are you saying they are widely available still to other groups and if so who as I would like to know how to get hold of them.

I don't live or work in Coventry but have been offered free tickets to Wasps games on two occasions. They were offered to me by two separate companies, both based in London. People mistakenly thought as I was from Coventry I'd be interested in going.

My Dad also mentioned to me earlier in the week that he had been offered free tickets from one of the neighbours, preceding a rant about Wasps being in the city and how much coverage they are getting form the Telegraph and CWR.

Funny that given the fact the euro game will be a sell out I've received an e mail saying buy for that game and get a free ticket for Cardiff. This is an offer not via work but another source.

If its a 30,000 sell out why are they doing this?

Your fake shock makes me laugh. Whenever someone posts on the Wasps forum you are all over it like a rash, so dont pretend that you dont know Wasps were splashing it all over the press about the huge give away of tickets for the first four games. Even remore tribes in the Amazon have heard about Waps giveaway and their PR machine, but apparently not you

12,000 freebies for 3 of the first 4 games. I'd guess the Leinster match won't have any serious freebies since it's likely to be a high seller all on it's own. LV cup is a development competition and a chance to run out the 2nds, I'd guess a large number of freebies will have been given for that.

Same reason they're linking the LV cup game with the Leinster game, sell a few more tickets for a game that's unlikely to sell too much anyway.

Why are you on a Coventry City forum? You certainly aren't a CCFC fan. Do you work in PR?
