All that article really tells you is that Westwood was offered a contract and turned it down and then after getting stick from fans he went to the papers making out he was desperate to sign but could for some reason only sign if the contract had been offered earlier.

That may well be true, it also could be totally made up to make him look good and get the fans off his back.
That wasn't the first word that got out that he was still waiting for a contract to be offered though.

If you have a player you want to keep you don't wait for their contract to run out. You sort it out with at least 6 months to go. Then they can't be touted by their agent. Having players contracts run out to try and save money isn't a good move. If they are decent players they will get another contract elsewhere.

So you are giving us a choice on who to believe. A player that we know wanted a new contract as he went public in the end or owners that we certainly know hate negotiating. Ummmm. Let me have a think about that one.

Are we talking about Westwood who went to play for Sunderland or a different one?

Yeah apparently he was desperate to stay with us and not interested in getting paid more.

In next weeks exciting resurrection of history Leon Best reveals he loved the club so much he never wanted to leave but nasty wasty sisu forced him to go and play for a bigger club on a better wage.

Next week we go into the exciting new world of disregarding "Quoted" facts in which everyone tells lies except those that don't believe.

CCFC are the biggest club in the world with masses of potential and hundreds of thousands of fans, of course the only thing stopping wold domination by CCFC is SISU. Before SISU, we had sell outs, never battled relegation, never sold players we didn't want to, didn't have undisclosed fees, chairman who were always truthful and honest with the fans, a supportive council who let us play at the Ricoh (as we were paying for it, albeit not upfront like the CCC £10million investment). It was all a dream before SISU and will be after they've gone. Wait and see

The same Westwood who went there as No.2 because he wasn't offered a contract to be our No.1

Oh so you think he'd have passed up what - trebling his wages would you say?

Next week you will be saying yet again that you don't make things up to deflect away what SISU have done wrong.

Nope just think he was saying what fans wanted to hear.

He wasn't under contract as he hadn't been offered one. If he had they would have had to pay to sign him. So the odds are they would have found someone else to warm the bench up.

Of course we battled relegation.... But we've never been relegated twice under the same ownership!

TBF it's not like Westwood famously turned down Liverpool and premier league football out of loyalty to Sheffield Wednesday and championship football. No wait. That's exactly what he did.

My memory for what it's worth was Westwood refused to sign the contract AB put in front of him straight away and AB spat the dummy dropped him. But I also remember Westwood saying at the time that he'd asked for a new contract 12 months ago and had 6 months of undelivered promises from the club to sort it out before he stopped asking.

I think it's true to say that initially he wanted to stay loyal to CCFC, he certainly wanted a new contract and he certainly has a history of rejecting bigger more glamorous clubs, playing higher up and for more money (unless someone is now going to claim that Liverpool can't compete with Sheffield Wednesday on wages) but clearly he got pissed of with being messed around with broken promises and was probably glad to leave in the end even if that was second choice at Sunderland.
