Jodie Whittaker, the first female Dr. Going to be interesting to see where they take it.

Also love how much this is going to piss off backwards dickheads.

You should look at the reader comments on the Daily Mail website when it was suggested it might be a female.

    Unbelievable.

I am happy with a woman and personally would be very happy with Jodie Whittaker.

Surely the Doctor can regenerate into anyone and anything.

I didn't realise it was still on so don't care if it's a man or woman.

You care enough to post on here that you don't care though. ;)

Still has the capacity to be brilliant, though I haven't enjoyed the last series so much and didn't care for Bill at all. Glad to see shot.

I love the show and one of the reasons is that it can go anywhere and do anything. Main character changing gender is nothing. I love people melting down over small stuff like this though, get some perspective.

Unfortunately show has become a vehicle for BBC diversity policies.

It also attributes modern attitudes to historical characters, which is pretty much a form of political indoctrination for young viewers.

Did annoy me last series. Bill (new companion) spent the entire series reminding everyone that she was a lesbian.

was funny when the centurion thought she was a prude for restricting herself to one gender. Romans would fuck anybody.

What about all the other Beeb programmes you don't like?

Don't quite get the argument, TGP. Doctor Who gets sold all around the world and is very much a flagship programme for them.

Lots of BBC programmes I don't like such as Call the Midwife and Death in Paradise and EastEnders etc, but you know what, I just don't watch them. I don't complain about my TV licence paying for them. ;)

The last time I saw Dr Who, William Hartnell was the Doctor, fighting off Daleks. Thought it was daft then and still do.

they go into meltdown over pretty much anything. Frightening to think these people exist though comforting to know the modern world is so terrifying for them that they never leave the house.

More concerned about Chibnall taking over. Not a fan of much of his work on Who / Torchwood.

As far as the casting goes can't help feeling its been done more to tick a box and / or as a gimmick than being driven by where they want to take the story.

I have no interest in the show, but surely it has to be a man. It's historically a man so really you need to stick to what the original creator wanted?

Disagree, Marty. You have to remember back then it was very much a masculine world and men snared up pretty much all the major parts in anything.

If any character was ever going to b a woman I would say Doctor Who is the perfect choice. We already have a character who can regenerate and become young or old, vibrant or craggy. The Doctor can be pretty much anything or anyone.

I have no problem with it being a woman. Will simply judge her on her performance when the show airs.

The only reason he ended up regenerating was because Hartnell wanted to leave, that was never in the original plan.

    I can't believe adults watch it - it's
The regeneration was always the same gender so the character played by Kate O'mara was supposed to always be female as was the Doctor supposed to be male.

The original creator, Sydney Newman, tried to get the show runner at the time to cast a woman as the doctor in the 80s.

Its already established in the show that regeneration to a different gender is possible so its not really a problem from that standpoint.

I thought it was originally written by Enid Blyton? It's about her level.

Well I'm really looking forwards to it and if people think it childish I would counter that by saying it is no more childish than Star Wars and in fact, Doctor Who has a lot more social commentary and moral compass about it I reckon.

If anyone thinks it childish I would urge them to watch the episode Amy's Choice. There are a number of excellent episodes to be found, but as I said earlier in the thread I have been a bit disappointed with this last series.
