Peter Gilbert (born 31 July 1983 in Newcastle upon Tyne) is an English-born Welsh footballer who is currently without a club after being released from Sheffield Wednesday on 6 April 2009.[1] In the past he has played for Birmingham City, Plymouth Argyle, Leicester City and Doncaster Rovers. Gilbert is eligible to play for Wales, and has represented them at U21 international level.

Career

Gilbert began his career at Birmingham City as a trainee, living with a local family to save commuting from Sunderland daily,but failed to make a first team appearance. He did captain the academy side during his time with the Blues and made many appearances for the reserves. His progress was hampered by a host of injuries including a serious knee injury and after this realised that he should make a fresh start at another club. He joined Plymouth Argyle at the beginning of the 2003–04 season on loan, where his performances earned him a permanent move. Once he signed, Gilbert soon proved himself to be a reliable and steady player and was a mainstay of Argyle's Second Division Welsh U21 squad and receiving his first cap. He made 38 appearances for Plymouth Argyle in The Championship during 2004–05. This led to interest from the then Leicester City manager Craig Levein, who signed Gilbert for the start of the 2005–06 season. Gilbert moved to Leicester City for a fee in the region of £200,000.[2]
Gilbert's move to Leicester was an unsuccessful one however, as he made just six appearances before being loaned to fellow Championship side Sheffield Wednesday in November 2005.[3] He joined Wednesday in 2006, following three unsuccessful years at the club, his contract was terminated by Brian Laws on 6 April 2009.

I think Coleman made the right choice there, he looked ok but nothing more really. So much so that I can remember him coming on but can't actually remember anything else about him or the performance from that night!
