Sky Blues in the Community took the opportunity to announce two exciting new funding projects at the CCFC home match against Scunthorpe United. The Premier League Kicks Project offers positive activities for young people aged 8 -19 years old in high priority areas, providing free football sessions and a further night of alternative activities – including sport, dance, music and personal development and leadership opportunities. The scheme also aims to break down barriers between the police and young people, reducing crime and anti-social behavior and creating routes into volunteering, education and employment.

The project is made possible with funding worth £90,000 from The Premier League and the Moat House Community Trust who support the project with an additional £30,000 to deliver Kicks in the Woodend area of the City. In attendance on the day was Nick Perchard – Head of Community at the Premier League, Dianne Williams from The Moathouse Trust and Councilor Kevin Maton. Coventry City Council are a local partner who support an number of our projects.

Also our guests at the game were Paralympic silver medalist Kare Adenegan, who represented Great Britain at the Rio Paralympic games this summer, and returned with a silver and two bronze medals. Kare was on hand to accept a cheque for £54,200 from Chief Executive Officer of the Wembley National Stadium Trust, Stewart Goshawk. The money will fund Sky Blues in the Community’s new disability project, supporting us in providing opportunities to disabled adults and children in Coventry and Warwickshire.

On hand to make our guests feel welcome were SBitC Trustees Debbie Davies and Sandra Garlick, Director David Busst and Inclusion Manager Craig White who said –

“The funding we have received from the relevant partners will help us to continue and also offer new opportunities for young people and Adults within the local community. The funding will help us continue to inspire people in some of the most high-need areas”.
