Scotland Yard to carry out 'urgent assessment' after collapse of rape trial

Just heard this on the news, basically he was due to go to trial for rape. The police had a disk with all of the victims messages on, they included messages to her friends about him and to him pestering him for sex. The disk wasn't reviewed though or used for evidence until his lawyer eventually persuaded it to be used and the case collapsed straight away.

The lad was kicked off his campus at uni, pictures of him, named and shamed and was studying criminology so no doubt will have an impact of that.

Yeah, spotted this, this afternoon. Shocking. Surely all evidence should be made available to both sides before trial even starts.

Heard today that the evidence is split into 2 categories by the investigator. Must be and could be shared. Utterly crazy. Pleased this case was stopped but imagine how many convictions may be unsound

Reminds me of a guy called Victor Nealon. Wrongly accused of raping a woman in Redditch. Found guilty in court and spent 17 years behind bars fighting it, losing every appeal. Turns out the Police did not handle the forensics properly, which would have proven his innocence almost immediately.
