For the third year running, Sky Blues in the Community are delivering the +Sport Move and Learn programme to 1,800+ children during the 2016/17 academic year.

The +Sport Move and Learn Project is part of Ferrero’s global Kinder+Sport initiative designed to encourage active lifestyles in children across the world. In the UK and Ireland, 25 football club community organisations are delivering the project to children aged 9-10 in their local area this year – with Sky Blues in the Community working with children in primary schools across Coventry and Warwickshire.

Developed in partnership with the EFL Trust and Ferrero, the +Sport Move and Learn project aims to encourage healthy and active lifestyles in children. Under the banner of ‘+Sport Move and Learn’, Sky Blues in the Community deliver a 6 week programme of healthy lifestyle and physical activity sessions to Year 5 pupils at local schools. Each week, children take part in a 45 minute classroom lesson where they learn about topics including exercise & fitness, the human body, diet & nutrition and hydration. This is then followed by a 45 minute physical activity session with the children participating in three main sports – football, handball and dodgeball.

Locally, to date, Sky Blues in the Community have worked with close to 5,000 Year 5 children in schools across Coventry and Warwickshire since first beginning delivery of the project in 2014. In addition to the dedicated SBitC delivery team, Coventry City FC players also visit the project to reinforce the healthy lifestyle messages that the team deliver – encouraging children to be active and eat a healthy balanced diet.
