I don't quite know why we have not offered quirke a new contract. With him only being 19 and being able to play at championship level, It would be foolish to let him leave the ricoh. With him being a coventry fan, if he was to improve and learn he could be one of the best in the championship, and why would he leave when he is playing for his club, 1 or 2 seasons on loan getting first team appearances and he will be able to represent coventry at a high level, he needs a new contract!

yes ive found this situation ot be a bit of a strange one. Hes done well in his appearances, and i cant imagine he would be asking for much of a wage, I cant understand how hes the one hvaing to ask for his contract renewal?!

We haven't given him a new deal yet, which is the main thing. Youth players often get their deals in pre-season.

But if he's asking for one now, than why should we keep him waiting?

I'll remind you of this when he's demanding £800000 per week or he'll leave our Champions League push and sign for Real Madrid.

he is too small to ever make a top class keeper so may aswell save on wages for someone else.

Exactly you don't need to be huge to be a top class player

Iker Casillas rated one of the best goalkeeper's and he's not exactly a giant at 5 ft 11.

Would you say he deserves coventrys no.2 goalkeeping spot, rather than daniel ireland?

Don't think we can offer him a contract on the basis of him being a Coventry fan. He'll be winning player of the season next :o

Well looks like he will get another chance to impress against Norwich. Westwood is out injured and for the up and coming international matches.

Yes he does. I think he looks steadier than Ireland and has proved himself at this level and will only get better, especially as he is now an Irish U21 international at the age of 19.

If you were to ditch all youth players who you didn't know for sure would be great, who'd you be left with? Who would anyone be left with? The idea that Michael Quirke should be thrown by the wayside as a young goalkeeper is bewildering.

Campos was good enough to gain over 100 international caps and play at the World Cup, and we're hardly expecting that from Quirke in order to be a good goalkeeper for a Championship side.

Real Madrid's official site lists Casillas as 182.2 cm which I make out to be just under 6ft.

    Agreed - my bad (I did a crude calculation of 1ft to 30cm - but you're right) :)

I always thought the same, until I found out the exact measurement and instantly lost an inch, something that usually only happens when I've been in a cold swimming pool.

Just to say, a few weeks back I bumped into Michael and Sammy (playing golf together), got chatting and Michael told me he was happy because he had signed a new contract.

No idea, I'm only reporting what he said to me. Maybe I misheard him and he said he was happy because he hadn't been offered a contract:confused:
