Finally got the all-clear yesterday, the disease has completely gone.

Just got to take it easy for another couple of months then I can think of going back to work, though it will only be about three hours a day initially.

Consultant said he was pleased as my strain of leukaemia is not only rare but can also be extremely aggressive. It is the first case they have come across and so they were making the treatment up as they were going along, but it seems to have worked which is the main thing.

Still have to attend weekly clinics to keep an eye on my blood counts. My dependency on the steroids (I am currently a bit of a moon face) and the anti-rejection drugs is going to be slowly decreased to let my new immune system fight the good fight. As it happens I had a cold and a cough this week, the first since I was diagnosed last October and my system fought it well. It is down to the transplant now. As the consultant pointed out I had mine three months ago but you cannot be confident a transplant is successful for three years, so a long way to go.
Thats a great result, Torchy. Well done! It's not just the medication and treatment that fixed you up, your positive attitude had a great deal to do with it.

So, I’ve just stumbled across this thread. I knew you were ill Torch but didn’t know the exact details but having just seen this thread, I’m absolutely delighted that you’re beating this thing.

See, this forum is a funny place. I’ve not met any of you but there’s a few on here who I feel like I know quite well. Like brothers from other mothers whom I could easily have a beer with. You’re in that group Torch.

Keep the positivity up, keep being inspirational to others and I’ll hope to buy you a beer one day at a Cov match.

Right, I’m off to watch Norn Iron hopefully smash the Swiss in the WC Qualifier. Laters mate,

WM

How's everything going now @torchomatic ? Still all good with the blood counts? Back at work yet?

Bloods have been up and down, particularly my white cells, so I have to inject myself three times a week. had a few colds which is good as it helps my new immune system battle the bad stuff. Can't taste food properly at the moment so everything tastes really bland. Happened in the past so hope that will improve. Going back to work for three hours a day from the beginning of December.

Good to hear that you seem to be getting back on your feet, Torch. Going back to work (albeit only 3 hours a day) will surely help to give a feeling of normality. Keep at it.

Rather like a brother, you’re like that cheeky scamp of a cousin that is occasionally annoying but on the whole, a likeable chap. I’d have a beer with you ccfc4life. If you’re old enough to drink!

One of those brothers who would walk into your bedroom greeted with a rock bottom or a stone cold stunner.

Glad you are getting there Torch, bet it's going to be weird going back to work. How long has it been? About 18 months?

Last time I was at work was October last year, so it's been a while. In theory I am signed off until the end of March, but unfortunately, I have a mortgage to pay, so can't really stay off much longer. I did get full and half pay for a year, but at the end of this month I won't get anything, hence why I'm going back. My consultant says as long as I'm careful it should be OK. He's the one though who has said no more than three hours a day for two or three months, plus a day or two working from home.

Have you still had to get up to get your son to school etc or is it going to be a massive shock to the system?

He started secondary in September so I get up every morning to take him to school in Leamington from Warwick. I work in Leamington anyway so have proposed hours that would let me drop him off first.

Seen you on here a fair bit recently @torchomatic , and you seem on good form, hoping that means things are still good. Coping ok with being back at work?

Yes, all seems OK, Mark. Just doing three hours a day three days a week, working from home on a Wednesday and I am off on a Firday as I still have to go to Heartlands every week. Skin still a little dodgy, but nothing too serious. Have to have another bone marrow biopsy (ouch!) in a couple of weeks as they want to keep an eye on my condition, which is fair enough. Can't complain, well apart from having rubbish wages for working part time, but aim is to go back full time from beginning of April.

Glad to hear all your positive news Torch and good things happening on the pitch for the Sky Blues for you too. It was good to read this thread as well . We may bicker like old women on this forum but their is genuine care and respect too

Must be his work days then ;)
When I was working in an office I would only come on here because my computer was always freezing and the only website I could access on the entire World Wide Web while everything else was down was SkyBluesTalk. Everything else was frozen.

Occasionally my computer would unfreeze for porn too though while I waited for the works systems to boot back up.

Now some may think that is one hell of a coincidence, but I always just put it down to pure luck.

Hi All

Yes, I'm still about, but not really been posting as much as I used to on here for some reason, not sure why. Anyway, will make an effort to post more. As for my "thing". All OK, nearly a year since transplant (4th May) and all going as expected. Still have to make regular Friday trips to Heartlands and as it was rare will have to be monitored closely for a couple more years, but hopefully it's all behind me now.

Excellent news, but please don't make the effort to post more.

People were just starting to like you in your absence.

Well half and half really. From beginning of April I do three days at work, 9-4. WFH on a Wednesday and have every Friday off due to the consultant appts. Hope to increase hours further in September time, see how the frequency of appointments pan out.

Good to hear you are still on the mend. Going back to work starts to bring a bit of reality back.

I certainly know the feeling myself. Have been off again. Got another meeting this Friday. Then will be going back to work. Starting on 4 hours a day and going up an hour a week. It will be good not being a full time housewife.

Just take it easy and don't overdo it. After all your health is the most important thing.
