Xavi has criticised Real Madrid's negative tactics after Barcelona took control of their UEFA Champions League tie.

Barca prevailed 2-0 in the first leg of the eagerly-awaited European semi-final, with Lionel Messi's brace giving them a lead to protect in next week's return match at Camp Nou.

There was nothing to choose between the sides in a fiery encounter until Pepe was sent early in the second half to leave Real with 10 men.

But Barca playmaker Xavi insists the Catalan club were good value for their victory after approaching the game in a positive fashion.

Xavi was less than impressed by Real's aggressive gameplan and was delighted to take revenge for the recent Copa del Rey final defeat.

"I don't want to talk about [Jose] Mourinho. I only want to discuss Barcelona," he told Marca.

Superior

"We put in a good performance and it's a fair result. This is a victory for football.

"We got the result that we deserved. We were again superior.

"We're a team that wants to play attacking football and have fun on the pitch.

"They [Real Madrid] are just hoping that we'll make mistakes. That worked in the Copa del Rey final, but not this time."

Xavi recognises that Barca still have work to do to secure a spot in the Wembley final and has urged his team-mates to stay focused ahead of the second leg.

He said: "The Barca players are very happy with the triumph but we still have not completed our passage to Wembley.

"The first test is passed but now it is necessary to finish the job at home."

That game has made me dislike Barcelona. They're so used to teams rolling over for them that when the going gets tough like it did from 30 mins to when Pepe got sent off that turned into whiny petulant cheats. It was utterly disgraceful to see the world's greatest football team play like that.

It is commendable that they use the youth system and have produced the world's greatest team largely from that. However the most egregious of the Barca players for me were Pedro and Busquets, how they can watch that game and say it was a victory for football is delusional

Its sad to see such a brilliant bunch of footballers, resort to the type of whingy cheating that was seen last night.
Practically all of the players, including that of Real, were throwing themselves about and rolling all over the place, but for me, the ultimate pathetic cheat, who is on a whole level of his own, is Sergio Busquets. There's was something about him that i've always disliked, but seeing the way he acted in the couple of recent games v Real and the games v Arsenal over the past couple of seasons, has been nothing short of farcical.
He should be utterly embarrassed watching clips back of his antics.

He is right that Real were very negative with the players they have but Barca have dropped in my view for their tactics and rolling around the pitch.
