The title says it all. My reaction is:

Meh.

Thoughts?

He's not really done much this season as yet (that cracking tight finish aside) but anyone that actively wants to play for the club gets my support. All hands on deck and all that.

does this add more value to the players for when SISU put us in admin and they have to be sold ??:thinking about::thinking about:

I have to be honest, I feel very indifferent about this.

The cynical (and rightly so) approach, will be that signing players to extended contracts will ultimately increase the value of the club.

But on the flip side, with our current league position, unknown financial position any player willing to commit to the club should be applauded.

Yes, McSheffrey is not the player he once was, but with league 1 looming, can we really attract or afford better players.

But the news I am really waiting for is Cranie and Cllingan to sign contracts, that is where the real value for the club is.

Great to see us building for the future by tying our star players into long term (undisclosed) contracts - the last thing we can afford is to lose a brilliant young player like McShefffrey to the likes of Man Utd or Barcelona for nothing. Giving him a contract at least ensures we will get a multi million pound fee for Sheffchenko. He has work his socks off in every game this season, making numerous chances for the strikers, turning defenders inside out with his pace and trickery, his willingness to track back and help out the young full backs is truly inspirational. A great move by the club - hopefully we can also tie up Deegan and Platt - forget rubbish like Clingan and Cranie, let these journeymen seek their fortunes elsewhere, we need commitment, pace and endevour and that is what Sheff gives us.

I sure picked the wrong week to quit solvent abuse...............

See, Sky were right, we are always calling him Sheffchenko! :claping hands:

Well, I for one am pleased he's staying.

In fact, I have a question for all those who constantly slag off Bell, McSheff, Hussey, and now seemingly McDonald and Murphy. With those five out of the team if you had your way, who would play?

This is what I keep saying. Mcsheffrey on performances probably didn't deserve a new contract yet but the size of our squad and our finaces/owners mean we are not getting anyone better in soon.

We're second from bottom. That would mean NONE of them deserve a contract!

Can you honestly say, hand on heart he deserves a new contract for his contribution this year?

Personally I'd have preferred splitting his wage and handing it to Clingan and Cranie (the real hearts of the team) and letting him go and giving Conor Thomas his role at the top of the diamond.

really? weve been carrying him for most of this season. i dont know what his wages are like but surely that money could be better re-invested on younger more hungry players.

yet another prime example of us already preparing for league 1 next season.

Personally, I think it reflects more on the fans than the club preparing for League One or whatever. Frustrated fans can't make any headway with SISU so they have a go at the players.

OK, let's forget the usual targets > Murphy, Hussey, Bell, McSheff

Clingan? Has he been on fire this year? Cranie? McPake? Baker? Cameron?

Aside from the hysteria over Bigi and Dunn (with his two subs appearances) the only players who come out with any credit this season for me are Juke, Christie, Wood and Keogh. And now Platt.

If we had bags of cash then we wouldn't be having this conversation. Fans need to support their players. Sounds crazy, doesn't it?

yet another prime example of us already preparing for league 1 next season.

the way the season has gone so far the fans have supported the players and the season has been shit !!! so how people can say they havnt supported them is beyond me. i remeber fans singing to micky adams team youre not fit to wear the shirt i havnt heard anything like that yet and we are in a worse position and the team is shit beyond doubt !!!

Torchy, however you want to slice it the team is shit, we are joint bottom of the division, 4 points from safety. Forgetting the kids as they are just off their mothers tit and their careers have yet to start but look at the seasoned professionals and McSheff, Bell, Baker, Eastwood, Platt and McPake are simply not good enough for the Championship. Of our squad only Clingan, Cranie, Juke, Wood, Keogh and Murphy are. Why would anyone think its a good thing that we have signed up yet another player who is not good enough for this division?

I am pleased about this. McSheffrey played well at the top of the diamond and worked wonders with K**g at the tail end of last season and demonstrated the quality he still posesses.
The lack of quality players around him has seen him drift in and out of games this season not knowing where he is supposed to be and what position to find himself in.

Following the change at half time against Southampton it would not surprise me if we approach the next game against West Ham in a flat 4-4-2 with Sheff wide on the left which I believe is his strongest position and where he poses the most threat cutting inside on his right foot.

At the end of the day talent wise he is one of our best players. He is a Cov kid and I am pleased that he will be with us for the forseeable future.

This is just plain wrong I am afraid. I agree that there may be other players who we would prefer to sign up to longer contracts but you can't just say that because it hasn't worked this season yet for McSheffrey he is shit!

You implied that he cuts in from the left and shoots with his right a la ashley young. When has he ever done that ?

And since when do I have to give you constructive criticism for your post? I read the post and picked up on what bit which I cant understand and asked you about it?

True, just found your response a little pernickety. I didn't necessarily say that everytime he cut inside he shot/ scored on his weaker foot just contributed a lot more to the team by keeping the opposition guessing. He was phenominal that season and I am not saying he can emulate that once again but I do believe that he does still have more to offer.

Ok. I see what you mean now, although I do disagree as i think his powers are diminshing, and I am disappointed that he like Bell and Baker has been offered an extension whereas the we havent heard much about offering contracts to our better players.

Like who? All the kids have been given extensions. That's good, surely?

I dont know how long Jukes got left on his contract but with him being such an important player i would think it wuold be a huge priority to get him on a new contract. Clingan and Cranie are in a similar boat.

Obviously getting the kids signed on was extremely important.

All league one players, maybe we may do alright down there

The only worse thing that can happen now is by giving Freddie a new contract. The most over rated player currently in the team, a man who appears to give limited effort to the cause, a man who spends most of the game moaning he doesnt get the ball and when he finally does he does nothing with it, has been given an extension with the other 2 useless causes in Bell and Baker. Im not sure even league 1 sides would fear facing that midfield.

diffrence was between then and now, adams had money to spend and signed a bunch of crap like kyle and mckenzie.

thorns had fuck all to work with and had his 4 best players taken away from him and being replaced either with far inferior players or no1 at all.

We've offered contracts to the younsters and Bell, Baker and McSheffrey. Whilst Clingan and Cranie have not been offered one as yet.

The Club are preparing for League One football.
