Trust Statement About the Butts (11 Viewers)

We appreciate the need for the club to have access to non-football revenue streams and, if a move to an expanded Butts stadium would encourage financial stability and team development, then it could be worthy of consideration.

“It would also make it easier for some fans to access the stadium by public transport. That and its central location we believe would be attractive to many Sky Blue supporters.

“We therefore welcome the potential collaboration of officials from Coventry City FC and Coventry Rugby Club in exploring the possibilities of such a groundsharing venture.

“Not withstanding the likely time scales involved in both the planning and building phases, we would also have some concerns that the Butts site would be too small to accommodate a stadium of sufficient size to serve the club’s and fans’ ambitions for a return to the top flight of English football.

“There would be no scope to replicate the scale of car parking available at the Ricoh, putting great pressure on the surrounding neighbourhoods. Also, of course, large car parks at the Ricoh are a valuable source of revenue.

“Our view remains that the club’s focus should be on negotiations with the owners of the Ricoh for a long-term deal there, incorporating a substantially greater share of stadium income for Coventry City FC.

“Throughout this process we urge both clubs to fully consult with supporters and involve them as much as possible in taking forward future plans.”

Not too impressed with that to be honest. It doesn't make sense. They say don't go to the Butts as it wouldn't allow PL football ignoring the fact clubs with smaller stadiums are in the PL and we have zero chance of getting to the PL as tenants of Wasps.

It's odd that on here and social media the comments are mainly positive yet the CT, Trust and CCC all manage to be negative.

On here there are preople who say, great location for convenience etc., but how do we get round the many problems? Positive at the same time, with some realism ( which some count as negativity ).

I don't think many have said we should stay at the ricoh for as long as possible have they?

Yeah, wasps will be well up for this, we only have to ask and they shall give...

The Trust are not being negative at all, we are being cautious.
In principle and the right set up it could be ideal but we cannot just say its all fine and dandy if its not.
At same time we still need to negotiate with the Ricoh as what ever happens we need a home in the medium term.

see Dave's post. Criticism of the trust....... No matter what they say they are going to be attacked on here.

Not attacking. They say in the statement fans should be consulted. I'm a member, must have missed the email asking me what I thought about a potential move to the Butts.

On here there are preople who say, great location for convenience etc., but how do we get round the many problems?

Nobody is saying there won't be issues to resolve, there would be with any proposal. But that isn't the same thing as dismissing it and saying sign up at the Ricoh.

But that's not implied in the statement, its implied that we need a long term deal, and for me that suggests 10+ years at least

If that's the message you are trying to get across the statement in no way reads like that.

I agree that there is no point cutting ties with the Ricoh until something is confirmed, we can't say to Wasps based on an idea or architect's drawing to piss off.

Has the statement been spun a bit as I agree with your post, but not all of the statement.

Does it? How many members has it got?

3,000 according to that article.

The best thing to do would be to say "We urge everybody to stop being dicks, and get round the table and sort it". Aim it at CCFC, Council, Cov Rugby, Wasps etc.

The trust remind me of a Trade union, rarely have anything positive to say, usually quite negative and usually invoke polar responses. Where have they been hiding for the last year???

I'm not sure about the statement but to be fair Steve came across well enough on a radio interview this morning.

He was pretty balanced and looked at both sides of the debate.

His post makes sense earlier in the thread, it is just the statement that doesn't come across the same.

It could be down to other people's views.

Thank God for some common sense from the Trust !! They are not being fooled by this spurious garbage insinuating that the London hedge fund actually care a toss about the future of a Midlands football club. We've lost thousands of fans through their idiotic meddling and switching grounds, this will all end in tears again for Coventry City Football Club ! Too many on here just want some sort of revenge on the council at all costs !

Same thing could be said of SISU....

very strange, never heard any of our fans refer to us as a "Midlands Football Club".
Ironic also, too many people want things to happen just to get at SISU.

Blah blah blah blah blah same shit another day.
Doesn't matter what they said some will ATTACK the Trust no matter what.
At least I am honest I attack sisu no matter what. grow some balls and admit it.
Or lets all jump with Joy about this move I would if I could believe anything that sisu say.
They disband the Arena forum after there was nothing to show from it then come out with this new proposal and we are supposed to believe it.
I for one won't until I am able to buy my season ticket at the new ground.

They didn't come out with it, did they? It was CRFC.

The council are culpable in all this, I've never said otherwise.................or lets rephrase that, certain members of the council ! All that said the damage began and is continuing with the actions of the hedge fund. I'd love to see those members of CCC brought to account over the Wasps fiasco but I'd love more than anything to see these Leeches from Mayfair routed out and seen off for what they are and someone/anyone with the football club at heart to come in and manage it for the future of THE FOOTBALL CLUB !

So you base your statements on the opinions of a handful of fans over the whole Coventry fan base?

Unreal.

Again to be fair he came on the radio and did say crowd capacity in terms of revenue isn't an issue, he had looked at the opinions on this forum and gave a view.

It's not unreasonable to point out concerns which do stem from sisu and the past history.

It was reasonable and looked at both sides of the debate.
