Andy Turner - Load of Rubbish, it will never happen (9 Viewers)

He's right though.

I don't disagree with the bit about having all parties round the table and basically banging the heads together.

I don't really agree with the bit about the Ricoh being our home etc now or the bit about the proud sporting city and Wasps though.

he has a point. we got 17k in league one. if promoted wed hit 20 again some games. and prem would be 25 plus week in week out

its a shame buying ricoh will never happen now. i would prefer a long term rent deal at ricoh where we can get 70% of food and drink sales etc on top of a reasonable rent per year

argh if we got promoted this year i bet there would be more willingness amongst all parties to get things done, i dunno maybe thats silly but i think a lil success could help matters.

I think 25 plus week in week out is a little keen, even if we were in the prem. Yes maybe for the bigger games, but not every week. Part of it is also down to the design of any new stadium. At the ricoh it will never reach full capacity due to the crowd segregation.

the Ricoh Arena – like it or loathe it – is the club’s home, purpose built (contrary to what one misguided councillor contends) for the football club. It’s an impressive stadium, admired and envied by clubs throughout the land, including some in the Premier League.

It’s set up for top-flight football and the day we, as fans, all dream will one day become a reality again. It’s a pretty ambitious, some would say near impossible, dream as we stand at the minute but, nevertheless, it’s what keeps us going, the thought that one day ‘we’ll be back!’

The walls are built with bricks bought by us and named after our dads, lads, mums, daughters; our late loved ones are scattered there along with our Jimmy whose statue stands proudly at the front entrance, welcoming all visitors – whether to a match, a concert or conference – and reminding them of the rich history of this wonderful football club and city.

Don't remember the CT being concerned about those points when CCC were selling the stadium to Wasps and the local media were welcoming them with open arms.

back in highfield road days i think fans took prem for granted and it also wasnt as big a brand as it is today

i think for those 2 reasons alone we would hit 25 easy for a first season back anyway

Until the prices go up and people go crazy and refuse to go because they can watch it on Sky.

But why should wasps get round a table and do us a favour? They own the Ricoh, they have access to all the revenues and they have their own club to rub

"Wasps are not a charity but, surely, a conciliatory charm offensive by the Sky Blues would go a long way to bringing about some sort of compromise on match day revenue whereby City could get significantly more than their current 15 per cent of food and drink takings, and share of car parking income on game days."

What a load of bollocks, the only thing that will get significantly more revenue from wasps, is £££££.

Very sad when he is basically saying the club the stadium was built for should suck up to Wasps to get some of the money the club generates.

I think the council have to be worried at the volatility of having Wasps as tenants of the city, they have moved their franchise once, chances are they will do it again before too long, if BPA is expanded they will then almost certainly have one empty 25,000+ stadium, which one it is depends on wether CCFC buy it from Wasps when they decide theyve had enough of Coventry.

Couldnt tell you but looking at CRFCs attendances would probably suggest there is not a sustainable demand for Rugby in the city, I think people that go currently are more Warwickshire country folk.
I know little about the politics of rugby but from what I understand there is more politics involved than in football, salary caps, only being allowed to play for your country if you ply your trade there etc.

All novelties see a boom at the begininning, its just standard product life cycle, the question will come if it has the longevity to stick in the city for 10, 15, 20 years. I personally believe the Ricoh will be in standing in Coventry longer than Wasps will, either way they are volatile and this has to be a huge risk for CCC.

Maybe this is the interest they wanted to protect...

Every time I turn the radio on I hear they are signing high profile players and seem to have more results than bad. If their attendances dip below 10k on average once the novlety has worn off and an opportunity presents itself elsewhere, why wouldnt they move?

Pretty sure Wasps just signed an Aussie player for over £1M a season, and he just suffered a bad injury. Couple that with Danny Cipriani, James Haskell, etc and their wage bill must be huge. Will be interesting to see their accounts, if they're ever released.

Andy Turner is just a bloke with a job that allows him to spout and be noticed. Whether I agree with him or not on different issues it's instantly filed under: 'don't care mate'

Getting paid to do opinion pieces in a local paper. Just do your job and report.

I think they have to stay within a player wage cap of c£5.5m but can sign 2 players outside of the wage cap.

A lot of the Saints fan in Northampton are saying that Wasps are pushing to have the salary cap abolished completely.

Saying that though, the money in rugby union is dwarfed by that in football, and if we ever got to the PL our revenue would piss all over theirs.

From a rugby perspective, it's what makes the Wasps move so frustrating. Wouldn't have taken *that* much (relatively speaking) to bump CRFC up to that level.

"slammed London club Wasps". That's amusing.

I am not a Wasps fan but some of this Butts talk is in the realms of romantic fiction. To develop that site and not probably to our requirements; well the deal they wouldn't do for the Ricoh would have been cheaper.
